Peranakan Buffet Feast OK Dec 01, 2011
Categories : Peranakan / Nonya

First of all, Ba Ba King has shifted to 1 Changi Business Park Cresent, #01-22, Plaza 8 @ CBP Singapore 486025. It is no longer located at Singapore Expo, do take note.

Heard of Peranakan buffet? Now for $28 not inclusive of GST and service charges, you can enjoy Peranakan buffet dinner.

The menu consist of the following dishes:

There wasn't any one beside us in the restaurant which was good, we had all the attention to us. As Ba Ba King is now relocated to a business building, there wasn't much crowd beyond business hours.

$28 is pretty worth it as the dish portion comes in normal serving size suitable for 4 persons. Thus, per table can only ordered up to 3 times be it repetitive dishes. However, if you are looking for truly authentic Nonya food, this place will disappoint you a little.

We had quite a lot and walked out fully fed.

Nonya Chicken Curry

The curry is okay, just that it is not really the authentic Nonya Chicken Curry not thick enough.

Assam Chicken Wing

When I saw it on the menu, I pictured it similar to the Assam Fish and when the dish came it wasn't what I would expect. It just taste kind of weird, I still prefer the Chicken Curry than the Assam Chicken.

Sambal Fish, Chili Onion Prawn, Cincalok Omelette: Nothing really special, just like one of the economics stall dish.

The Nonya Ngo Hiang and YCK Sumbat Sotong are quite decent, finger food that we love.

I don't like petai thus I don't really fancy Petai Ikan Billis, I prefer the peanut served.

Milk Pai Chye

Taste just like one of those vegetables in oyster sauce, simply and nice.

Chicken Buah Keluak

This is our first time trying this dish, taste kind of weird. We were supposed to use the stick given to dig out the minced meat from the shell. I felt the minced meat tasted like sand though - just simply weird.

Beside Nonya dishes, they offer spaghetti. I had the chicken spaghetti, it was just spaghetti cooked in tomato sauce that's all.

At least, the desserts are good.

Pulut Gula Melaka

I very much enjoyed this dessert with ample coconut milk.

If you are nearby, you can consider popping by, else it is not really worth the travelling for a meal here.

Not really a place for crabs... OK Nov 25, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Restaurant | Seafood

Recently, House of Seafood was selling vouchers online through various websites and the deal just kept appearing so we bought it at $25 per 900g of crab instead of $50.

This place is mad crowded during dinner time and people just got louder and louder and soon it became a market place not really the idea atmosphere. They were a little short of waitress and so it took forever to get their attention.

Hotplate Beancurd was great! The sauce is nicely blend into the beancurd and the serving is good for 4!

Pork Rib in Special Sauce is a must have dish! It is not oily at all and the sauce is sweet, meat is tender not hard surprisingly - just like eating chicken wings!

Crab in creamy sauce is a dish that impress me, it is not the usual taste - really special! The sauce is not towards the milky side, there is this little cheesy taste in it which is kind of unique. The crab meats is quite fresh, just that I feel that the size of the crab is a little under size. If we walk in and pay $50 for these crabs, I don't feel worth it. You probably can get these crab at $30++ at some Zhi Char restaurants.
Bad!

Bad!

The Crab Noodle cannot match it up to Uncle Leong. The soup base has too much ginger taste in it, it doesn't has the tin of sweetness in it.

Just not really the place for crabs.

Rate: 4/5 for other dishes and 3/5 for crabs.

This Western stall has been feature in some of the medias and I have been wanting to try it out.

And the chance was here...with a little let down.

My sis took away dinner for the whole family and we each had different mains.

My sis and I had the Crab Spaghetti ($7.50), not really our cup of tea. We just didn't really like the sauce, we didn't finish the spaghetti. It will be good if they offer a choice of spaghetti base sauce.

I took a few spoonful of the Crab Baked Rice ($6.50) and it was good, not too cheesy and for the price, the ingredients are quite generous.

Cheese Fries ($3.50) is a good portion but the cheese used wasn't the nacho cheese, lack that little punch there.

Fried Shitake ($3.00) is not too bad just that the sauce given was a little short, else it will be great!

I think the food definitely taste better eating there rather than take away.

Not that nice dim sum... OK Nov 09, 2011
Categories : Coffeeshop

One fine day, my mum was worried that I had nothing to eat and she bought dim sum on the way home.

When I saw the Char Siew Pau, I was jumping up and down inside as Char Siew Pau is my all time favourite!

When I chewed it, the excitement in me die off. Still, I have no complain about the quality as these dim sums are supply to them and not ready made kind. So, I don't really expect a lot from them but it taste better than those microwave ready made Pau sold at supermarket.

Ingredients inside is a bit dry other then that acceptable.

Okay Juicies OK Oct 28, 2011
Categories : Hawker Centre | Desserts and Cakes

When a fruit juice stall juices don't taste so nice, we can't really blame them for that. Not all the fruits taste as sweet at it is meant to be. With a look on the fruit, it is very difficult to tell if the fruit is ripen or not. It really take years of experience to make good juices by selecting the ripen fruits to make juices.

And I believe most of us have our sour moment at home while trying to make our own juices right?

Orange and Watermelon Juices

The orange taste alright just that the watermelon tasted bland. Well, at least juices are healthier than soft drinks right? smile
