Standing Sushi Bar @ 8Q Sam ( City Hall )
Had a simple dinner at Standing Sushi Bar with Sue, the ambiance was good.

Guess its in the evening so the lighting feels soothing... very comfortable. Sue order of chef’s selection of Sashimi bowl. *sLuRP! its $35bucks I think…

Oh, their Miso soup, think got wine. and its a little sweet after taste. quite nice. Softshell crab. $7. -approve- my beef. $17. though the quantity is big but I feel its a little pricing. probably $15 would be better ba.

Quite nice. the sauce, the quantity of onion. the quality of beef. -approve-$7.

Guess I’m paying for the experience. cos afterall its short-grain rice and raved about.

To me its ordinary, but Yun pointed out that its not like sticky sticky and not like super oily.
I do agree on that. so *sHRugs*

Singapore Sling ( Clarke Quay )
Singapore Sling Pizza~

Prawns, baby clams meat, crabmeat (not just the crab stick, but real crab meat) and pineapple to throw in the *sling feel. lol

Kind of like a normal Seafood pizza, ‘cept the diff is in the thin crust and the real crab meat. You are looking at 3 layers in the photo. not bad..

Cheeky Chocolates ( Bugis )
Visited Cheeky Chocolates with my besties.
Their Double Chocolate Crepes were oki.

If you like chocolate, yes then it'll work for you.
For me... guess its too moist, when you stack them together, it feels like eating Chocolate Pancake?

hmm... I don't know..

Fish and Rice
Cries 2011-01-10 (Related Review)
Mad Jack ( Dhoby Ghaut )
This was their Fish and Rice.

The Rice is mushroom-y. Very mushroom-y.
If you mushroom, this would be a good dish to order. Cos its instant HIT of mushroom taste. The moment the scoop of "fried rice" is introduced into the mouth. You feel the mushroom.

Fish... it was a challenge.
I hope its only an isolated case. Cos the one that I had, I can taste the stale oil taste.

nope.

Like I say, hope its an isolated case.

Fish Burger
Smile 2011-01-10
Mad Jack ( Dhoby Ghaut )
Went with Calvin to try their stuff. Shall only talk about their Fish Burger for this review.

The fish was Seared (as you can see from the picture).
The "marination" was just nice, with a little taste to the fish, not like overwhelm, altered the taste of the fish fillet.

The amount of mayo, greens and tomato was also well controlled. Quite well done for a simple burger smile

Skip the Ramen, try...
Smile 2010-12-31
Tonkichi ( Somerset )
Went by to Tonkichi during the Christmas season with friends for a catching up session.

Saw a review here saying that the Chicken Katsu Curry was alright, so ordered their Ramen instead.
Well, as the title says, Skip the Ramen.

But their Karage was good.
Nice and crispy, well marinated and no oily aftertaste.

Their Katsu is good too. Thick and succulent.
Save the best for the last? I say cut the carbs(Ramen) and go straight in for that piece of protein(Katsu) lol

Sapporo draft is 1 for 1 too. (do call to check if it is still valid~)

   Saporro 1 for 1, chicken's good!

*Roast and loving it - One Rochester
Smile 2010-09-01
One Rochester ( Dover )
Went by to Roast @ One Rochester for some great food and great company.

Our table of 9 was served with an expense of Communal Menu, great desserts and dazzling drinks. lol *So dazzling that I see stars lol

To me, its always about getting the basics right before going on to conquer greater grounds.

I love their Grilled cod fillet with fennel and blood orange salad which is on the top right hand corner next to the Roast Logo. The chewy affair of the fish together with the caramelized layer on the top gives the cod fillet a must-go.

Their Tiger prawn salad with cous cous, pomegranate, mint and persian feta is fascinating as well (see top left hand corner next to the Roast Logo). This is the first time I encounter pomegranate with prawns. Not just that the prawn is fresh, but put together with the pomegranate, their crunchy-ness is a whole new chapter to the dish.

Their starter, The "Nibble" Platter which includes foie gras parfait, game terrine, is a very non-routine dish. In simple terms, they are goose liver moose and rabbit meat (see photo right below Roast Logo). What a new experience it was. That simple softness of the moose with the exotic taste of the goose liver. That game meat texture on a pastry... its like walking on unchartered grounds in the woods of the Twilight movie.

Their dessert of Grande Assiette , I especially love their coffee creme brulee. Its quality. Period. The coffee bean scent, that tinge of sweetness... Its Perfect~ *MuAcKz!

The drinks... How can the night be complete without them right?
Sequencing from left to right, *Lychee Martini, BMW (Baileys, Martini and Whisky) and Cosmopolitan.

Need I say more?
Go figure ;)

Doing the basics right
Smile 2010-07-23
Waraku Japanese Casual Dining ( City Hall )
Went by to Waraku the other day for dinner. I had their Katsu Don as I was really lazy to sample other dishes.

All I wanted was a decent, fill-the-tummy dish.

I like how the meat is really thick yet tender, the sauce goes down all the way to the rice, and the onion slices were just nice…
Stir the whole egg, onion and rice together… bite the meat…
Oh *Xing Fu *Xing Fu *Xing Fu!

So what if the restaurant has all sorts of beautiful dishes and cuisine?
I think just by mastering the basics, it would say alot about a restaurant.
And in this case of the Waraku restaurant, they certainly have their basics right.
