Swiss Fish & Chips Smile Aug 25, 2012

Decided to have lunch at Fish & Co. As usual, ordered for the Student Meal which significantly reduces the price of the fish and chips. It costs only $9.50 for a fish and chips of your choice and a drink (Iced lemon tea, coke/sprite, Koala tonic, passion fruit).

I chose Swiss Fish and Chips with Koala tonic. The fish and chips is stuffed with gruyere cheese and topped with garlic lemon butter sauce. One of my favourite dining moment in Fish & Co is whenever I slice the fillet, the stuffing (cheese, juice, everything) just oozes out of the fish. Makes it look very appetising. The cheese stuffing goes well with the well-fried fillet. I especially loved the garlic sauce. It had the nice garlic smell which wasn't too heavy. Perfect for the fillet.

Before I try all the other Fish and Chips, this will definitely remain as my favourite from Fish & Co. Would strongly recommend it + Awesome service and dining environment at low price.

Japanese Fish and Chips Smile Aug 24, 2012

Decided to drop by Clementi Mall for lunch with classmates. Tried the Japanese Fish and Chips from Fish & Co for the first time. It is stuffed with Furikake (Sesame seed, seaweed etc.) and mozzarella cheese. Its topped off with lemon butter sauce and seaweed. Comes along with Japanese soba sauce to dip the fish in (also served with tartar sauce).

I was pretty surprised when on the first cut. The stuffing in the fish just oozed out. I did try it again at Jurong Point's outlet and the stuffing was more chewy instead of liquid-like as Clementi's outlet. Either way, both styles are good. I like the unique stuffing and dipping it in the soba sauce. The soba sauce is relatively weak tasting at Clementi's outlet (it tastes a lot saltier at Jurong Point's) so its not easy to get sick of it. Personally I prefer dipping it in soba sauce than tartar.

It was a student meal that costs nett $9.50. Comes along with a regular soft drink (Selection of coke, sprite, koala tonic). I'd recommend koala tonic since we can get coke and sprite everywhere. Pretty good deal considering the ala carte price of the fish and chips will be $15.95. Do give it a try!

Pork Wonton Smile Mar 04, 2012   (Related Review)

Mayim has a relatively wide range of appetiser and the pork and vegetable wonton is one of them. It is served with the restaurant's sweet and spicy sauce and costs $5. The wontons are filled generously with moist soft pork which is wrapped with a thin layer of the skin. The skin has a light sweetness to it and the way the wonton was wrapped helps retain the sauce on its skin. The sweet and spicy sauce, as the name suggests, is sweet and spicy. However, it isn't too spicy and carries the special taste that's in most of the sauces Mayim makes. The only downside to the appetiser was the amount of oil in the sauce. It was too oily and I had to "drain" it out. Other than the oiliness, it was delicious and worth the money. Would definitely have it again next time I'm craving for wontons!

Spending per head: Approximately $5

NEW! Fish donuts!  Smile Feb 13, 2012

I first had the fish donuts from KFC in Malaysia and really enjoyed it there so I was thrilled to see that it has come to Singapore too. As the name suggests, its fish in the same of a donut. The fish is similar to the fish 'ole KFC had. Its moist and soft. It wasn't overly oily neither did it carry a heavy flour taste. It tasted very fishy and I really liked it.

I bought the ala carte which costs $4 for 6 fish donuts. Alternatively, you can buy the snacker box, which costs $3.95 and consists of 4 fish donuts, 1 small drink and fries. Perfect for a lunch. Recommended! smile

Custard & Peanut Bun Smile Feb 12, 2012

Categories : Dim Sum | Noodles

I dine at Mayim regularly and the manager had actually recommended me the baked custard and peanut sauce bun today. I've never tried it before and it seems like this is one of the items on the "customers' favourite" menu.

It was served freshly out of the oven and had a nice peanut smell to it. The outer layer of the baked bun is very thin and crispy. I loved the peanut sauce on the top layer. The crust is very soft and powdery. While it looked like it'd be very dry b/c of the peanut, it was actually relatively moist. The inner layer of the bun is baked custard which was very sweet.

Overall, I really liked it and would be having it again soon. The minimum order for this baked bun is 2 pieces and each piece costs only $1.40. Its pretty big and filling so it'd be a good idea to share one order with someone else.

Spending per head: Approximately $2.80(Lunch)
