EAT OK Jun 15, 2013
Categories : Noodles

I wanted to have an affordable meal, so I decided to drop by EAT to have a bowl of minced meat noodles. It does seem a little more expensive than the usual versions found at hawker centres or food courts at $4.30 per bowl, but I believe EAT isn't as stingy on ingredients and do have a certain standard. I ordered the thinner mee kia noodles that were evenly tossed in soya sauce and vinegar. I did have many slices of fish cake, minced pork bits, mushroom and lettuce in my bowl and was satisfied with my bowl of noodles.

Keisuke Tokyo Smile Jun 15, 2013

Decided to satisfy my craving for ramen here at Keisuke Tokyo. I visited on a weekday lunch time, just before lunchtime when crowds of office workers descend to the restaurant. Instead of the usual tonkotsu ramen, they also serve a special crab broth ramen at this outlet. Curious about how it will turn out, I decided to place an order for a bowl. One thing about Keisuke ramen restaurants- there is free flow of boiled eggs and bean sprouts which you can help yourself to!

The crab stock ramen soup is very special indeed- it came in a thick, orangey hue. It also had a nice seafood flavour to it, which made the ramen really special. Unfortunately, there were no actual crab meat to be found inside, you are served with the usual ramen condiments- pork slices, runny eggs (which was done really well!) and seaweed. The ramen noodles served in this dish is also slightly different- it is much thicker, a little like the yellow noodles found in our lor mee. Not sure why thicker noodles were used, but all in all, this bowl of ramen is very satisfying and filling!

Mellben OK Jun 15, 2013

We visited Mellben Seafood for a taste of their famous claypot crab bee hoon. We went to their branch at Toa Payoh instead of the main restaurant at AMK. We arrived before 6pm for dinner and were able to find seats, but when dinner crowd comes, do expect to wait.

Perhaps I was setting my expectations too high, but I was not very impressed with the Claypot crab bee hoon served. I did enjoy slurping on the smooth noodles with the rich creamy crab broth for the first few mouthfuls, but I did find the soup a little too salty for my liking subsequently. The crabs were huge and fresh though. If you really like the soup broth, the staff can top up the soup too.

Dessert Bowl Smile Jun 15, 2013

Whenever I pass by the Serangoon Gardens area for a meal, I will definitely stop by Dessert Bowl to have a bowl of their famed Durain Mousse ($5). Dessert bowl is located on the second floor of a row of shophouses with OCBC and some pubs. Walk closer and you will smell an unmistakable scent of durian wafting from this shop.

The Durian Mousse is a refreshing cold dessert pureed from durian flesh. It's really smooth with the occasional durian bits embedded inside the mousse. This is really delicious and will definitely make any durian lover go crazy. I did not find this dessert overly heavy or jelat, I could finish one bowl myself; I'm not sure if some people might find having too much durian overwhelming, but judging from the emptied bowls and satisfied looks of customers around, I guess it's a no =)

Wimbly Lu Smile Jun 15, 2013

You will not miss Wimbly Lu- there is a nice vintage red beetle parked in front of the shop and it's part of their logo!

I stepped into the place and was quite surprised at how small the place actually was. Perhaps it was almost full house and there were many people which made the place seemed even more congested and small. It is nonetheless very cosy, with wood decor which opens up behind to a morr airy, glasshouse like feel behind. Too bad I was given a seat nearer to the entrance so I didn't get to fully enjoy the interiors behind.

Wimbly Lu is known for their chocolate desserts and I wanted to try something special, so I ordered their really unique sounding Root Beer Cake with vanilla ice cream. The dessert was served in a martini glass, really cute, but unfortunately the portion was pretty small. The cake was really moist and did have a slight root beer taste to it, though not very strong. Definitely went very well with the ice cold vanilla ice cream.
