Be wise with your dish choices Cry Jul 20, 2013

Came here one fine Saturday after hearing lots about this restaurant. I wasn't (and still am not) confident to say I knew a lot about Russian cuisine so this was a step out of my comfort zone... I think my wallet felt the same way too.

We ordered what I think was a dozen escargot as a starter. Sadly the escargot here was just not up to standard. There's this slight taste of dirt... I don't even know. Jack's Place is still best for escargot.

This is what I had for my main course - creamy chicken with rice. Verdict? Just. Plain. Horrible. Bland and flat. I think I only had 2-3 spoonfuls before casting this dish aside completely. Bad choice. Should have just gone with the steak!

For dessert we had to order the Baked Alaska. This, I admit, was really good. It's basically ice cream cake with a slightly "burnt" top/tips.

Oh by the way, the restaurant has this incredibly weird smell that might make you feel a lot less hungry. Beware. I don't think I'll be coming back at all... just wasn't impressed. Perhaps I just made bad dish decisions!

Came here with a girlfriend of mine because Park was closed (doh!). Amici had long been on my list of must-try's and since everyone says it's good, I thought to myself: "Why not?"

We had the sauteed mushrooms for starters. This was good but I think mushrooms are always a safe choice. Mushrooms already have this irresistible umami-ness so you can't really go wrong preparing it or eating it.

As for the mains, initially I wanted Vongole but since it was sold out, both of us chose a carbonara-type dish. My friend had the risotto while I had the pasta. I was a little disappointed at how average the pasta was. It was a little heavier than usual (some may like it), but unfortunately, it didn't hit the spot for me. As for my friend, she said the risotto was just too "gelat".

We noticed everyone else ordering seafood/tomato-based pasta and they all smelled really good so.. perhaps we made the wrong choice. I still trust other Italian eateries for great food. For now, just not Amici.

Pretty place, below average food Cry Apr 22, 2013

Q&M has long been on my list of must-visit places. I finally dropped by for lunch today, and boy, was I disappointed by the food and the service (staff all had this unpleasant look on their faces, like they didn't want to be there at all, not attentive too)

I ordered the lamb shank. It had the Chef's Recommendation logo beside it so I had high expectations. Unfortunately, the lamb was undercooked and the meat looked a little too pale. The sauce wasn't that great either - it just lacked punch.

The mash potato on the other hand, was pretty good. Would've been better if they had added more butter - but still not bad.

Our total bill was $72+. That's extremely pricey for 2 main dishes and one drink (coke is like, $6). Overpriced but I may come back to give the fish & chips a try, since it's such an iconic English dish. But not anytime soon!

Expensive food, BIG portions Cry Apr 22, 2013

Came to Suprette because my friends and I wanted to have dinner somewhere that was near to Windowsill Pies (dessert!)

The place is super hard to find. We wanted to walk from Farrer Park MRT at first but the distance looked kinda crazy, plus there was haze that day so we cabbed.

The dinner menu is quite limited. I ended up having the Pasta of the Day, tomato-based pasta with onions, garlic, bacon and... I don't know what else. To be honest, I didn't taste bacon at all and all I could taste was garlic and tomato.

Believe it or not, this simple dish costed $16. Really overpriced! But the portion was insane. Barely finished 1/2 I think. Plus they used angelhair pasta.

It's safe to say that I'm not coming back here.

I visited BBBS @ Robertson Quay for a gathering with some friends of mine. First things first, this place is quite hard to reach. However, since it's quite inaccessible, what you get is a laid-back atmosphere in a Clarke Quay look-alike spot. It's quite refreshing but the thing about this area is that it. is. really. WARMMMM!

BBBS is a fusion bar/restaurant with Thai, Indian and Western cuisine. It's an interesting dining concept, but unfortunately, what I ordered was really substandard.

The portion of the Platterz Cheeseburger was miserable. The buns weren't fresh. Also, the burger came with fries that weren't that hot and tomato sauce in this small little disposable sauce dish. When we asked for more tomato sauce, guess what the waiter did? With this half-confused, half-irritated look on his face, he stared at us for a couple of seconds and actually did this facepalm thing before walking away. He never returned with what we asked for.

All I can say is... what the...?!

Substandard food, HORRIBLE service (even the table behind us was complaining like crazy!), too hot to handle environment (no fans except for ONE area...) - it's such a shame because Robertson Quay is a very good place to chill out at in general. Too bad cos there are way better bars in the area e.g. Verre which is just down the row (escaped there after BBBS). Pfft, never coming back here!
