Teriyaki Chicken and Fish Bento OK Jun 27, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Food Court

The bentos are on promotion here at this Japanese Stall. Two for $9.90. you get to choose from four of their choices. My sister and I both chose the same one which was the Teriyaki Chicken and Fish Bento. The chicken was deep fried then drizzled with teriyaki sauce. I found the chicken a little dry probably due to the deep frying. The skin was crispy but the meat was a little tough. There was a fish fillet. It was deep fried till pretty crispy, but unfortunately the fish too was a little dry and hard. they provided some mayo for you to dip the fried food. I found the rice a little dry to eat as there was no sauce to go along with it. the teriyaki sauce was only drizzled on the chicken so there was not enough to go with the rice. I ended up adding miso soup to the rice to make it less dry. Even though I finished everything up, but I still don't feel satisfied with the meal.

chicken in a cup Smile Jun 27, 2013

There is a snack at SNAX where they sell somewhat similar chicken in a cup at the one I ate when I was in korea. SNAX calls it Korean Chicken and they offer three flavours for you to choose from. To match with the opening of JEM, they have this opening special where their Korea Chicken set meal is only $5.50 from 1ppm to 3pm. I was a little sceptical at first if the chicken in a cup was a little overpriced but still ordered it anyway.

Well i was wrong, in fact $5.50 was indeed chicken. There were so many pieces of chicken in the cup, and the fries container was pretty huge. the drink was thirst quenching blackcurrent juice. I opted for the soya garlic flavour, the fusion of both the soya sauce and garlic was just right. they seemed to add just the correct amount cos if there was too much garlic flavour, it would be a little spicy. the chicken cubes were very tender and juicy. the fries were crispy and unsalted, so i felt it was kind of healthy.

Do head down to try this set, they got two other flavours for their chicken. you will save $2 from their opening special.

wanton mee set  Smile Jun 27, 2013

Categories : Malaysian | Noodles

It was slightly after lunch time and I was shopping at JEM with my girlfriend. We were walking around the food court to explore the variety of food that we could eat. We happened to chance upon Graffiti Cafe at one corner of the food court. The colourful decoration of the cafe attracted us. I ordered the wanton mee set $5, it came with their signature wanton noodles and a drink or a dessert. I opted for their hot tea. as i stood there watching the lady prepare my drink. I was amazed that she added condensed milk and evaporated milk. cos for teh-c, it is tea with evaporated milk, for teh, it is tea with condensed milk. But apparently mine had both so I guess it was a fusion. In fact it tasted pretty good; the evaporated milk gave the drink its milkiness while the evaporated milk gave the tea its sweetness.

The wanton noodles is priced slightly higher than other places' but we customers are not short changed. Most wanton noodles that I ate outside have only two fried wanton and two soup ones, but here at Graffiti Cafe, there are three fried and three soup ones. The noodles are very springy. The gravy is very tasty cos i spotted a few pieces of lard, but nevertheless, taste is most important.

spicy chicken set Smile Jun 27, 2013

After a movie date with my girlfriend, we headed in search for food as the show ended pretty late. we were lucky that the kitchen at Just Acia was still open and decided to have our meal there. I ordered their spicy chicken set. It came with a large plate of marinated chicken, chopped kimchi, rice and soup. the chicken was a little salty for me, i guess they put slightly too much marinate. but if eaten with rice, it taste less salty. the chicken was tender and juicy. i wished there were more chopped kimchi as it was pretty good. the soup was a little on the bland side so i guess it complements the spicy chicken.

chewy pancake Smile Jun 24, 2013   (Related Review)

My girlfriend and I saw a lot of people ordering the kimchi pancake from Dong Dae Mun so we decided to give it a try as well. their kimchi pancake is very reasonably priced, only $2.50. It was not too spicy. there were two versions of the pancake, one spicy and the other not. The pancake was more of chewy than crispy. it was in a circular shape where the cook flipped it into half and cut it into 8 slices. It was pretty easy to eat and best eaten with the chilli sauce that they have.
