Coffee bread!
Smile 2012-07-31

Roti Mum ( Jurong East )
My uncle bought us some coffee bun from this roti mum at IMM. Although its has turned cold when i got it, but it still tasted delicious.

This is my first time trying out this coffee bun. Well, from the first look, it looked very ordinary not really attractive, but i am definitely attracted to this coffee bun after the first bite! The bun has a crunchy coffee crust on the outside but it is soft and fluffy on the inside. Being a coffee lover, i am definitely in love with this coffee bun!

Fish Soup Ban Mian - Gourmet Paradise ( Toa Payoh )
Was not feeling too well, wanted to have something soupy for dinner. So have got myself a special order - fuzhou fishball mee suan soup from this stall. Asked the aunt can i have this combination, she said sure!

I liked the mee suan which was cooked just nice (not soggy or overcooked) and love the fuzhou fishball which was so springy and juicy on the inside. And l love the 'tons' of vegetables! Really made it a healthy bowl of mee suan soup!

:( Dissapointing food

Charlie Brown Cafe ( Somerset )
We were celebrating my friend's daughter birthday at this charlie brown cafe, as we were looking for some where which is cute.

Ya, this is a rather cute place which was decorated with charlie brown character. Other than that, the food is not worth to mention or try at all. We have ordered many dishes to share among us. None of the dishes is worth trying, it tasted really below average. And the coffee is worse! It tasted really bad. I think my '3-in-one' coffee tasted much better than their coffee.

I dont think I will be stepping in this cafe again.

   Poor coffee

Late lunch at sakae sushi
Smile 2012-07-30

Sakae Sushi ( Toa Payoh )
Was busy at work and had a late lunch alone at sakae sushi near my office. Its been quite a while i dine at sakae sushi cos i was rather disappointed with their food on a previous visit at their other outlet.

I was attracted by their new variety of sushi. Had ordered a california roll and a unagi maki. They were both delicious and was happy that their sushi has improved!

The california roll was wrapped with cucumber, lettuce, snow crabstick, avocado and smelt roe. The ingredients were rather fresh which made it a very refreshing combination, its tasted simply yummy! And the unagi maki tasted oiishi which was wrapped with river eel, japanese cucumber and salmon skin. I love the salmon skin especially which was crispy and flvourful!

Teahouse - the asian kitchen ( City Hall )
Was meeting some of my ex-colleague for dinner but as usual i was busy at work and was late for the gathering. So told them to go ahead to order and start first. They have ordered roast pork, crispy duck and broccolli. So as you can see, they have saved the dishes for me on a plate as i was late. When i was there, the dishes have turned cold so i have ordered a seafood tofu soup (something hot) for myself.

Although the dishes have turned cold, but its still tasted very yummy and flavourful. The roast pork was very crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The crispy duck was quite nice also but i prefer ducks from dian xiao er.

I liked the seafood tofu soup that i have ordered for myself. There was alot of tofu that i really liked. The broth was thick and has a slightly saltish seafood flavour, which was yummy.

Bean Here... Chilled beancurb
Smile 2012-07-25

Bean Here ( Newton )
Was here with friends for supper. I have not been to Newton Food Centre for a very long time. My parents used to bring my siblings and me for supper when we were young. It was the time when you can see many stalls hanging pictures taken with hong kong celebrity. haha..

After our supper, we got some chilled beancurb as our dessert. Chilled beancurd is really the new craze in Singapore. Can see many new stalls selling this 'new version' of chilled beancurb.

The chilled beancurb tasted really nice. It was very refreshing with rather strong soya bean taste which i liked and its not too sweet. The beancurb texture was very soft, smooth and a little creamy. Slurps!

My friends wanted to eat gong gong and they were laughing at me as i have never seen and ate gong gong before! Anyway, I really never seen this 'stupid looking stuff' before! omg. haha

This was my first time trying this gong gong, but i fell in love with it after having the first one. Now i could understand why my friend love this gong gong so much.

It tasted very fresh and the texture of the meat was so springy, 'Q' and firm! With a bit of chilli sauce, wow its tasted yummy - delicious!

New bakery...
Just OK 2012-07-24

Ananas Deli ( Bukit Batok District )
This is a new bakery stall at Bukit Gombak MRT station. Decided to get some bread for my teabreak while on my way home. Got myself a cream cheese bread which cost $1.40 a piece. Its considered quite exp for a new bakery stall like this. Their pricing is around the pricing like breadtalk. But taste and variety wise, it is quite so-so only, not as good as breadtalk's bread. Limited variety also.

But something good abt this stall, i could see the kitchen's operation and the breads are all freshly baked.

First time trying Tully's coffee
Just OK 2012-07-23

Tully's Coffee ( Raffles Place )
After out dinner at Botan (Located at Far East Square also), we wanted some coffee and some 'chit chat' session. So we went for some coffee at Tully's which was located just near by. It was a very nice and cosy place.

This was my first time trying out Tully's coffee although i am a coffee lover. Have odered my all time favorite coffee - Mocha! But had something a bit different from what i usually had at coffeebean or starbuck. I have got myself a PM - PEPPERMINT mocha!

Hmm.. Well.. I was a little dissapointed when i had m first sip. It didnt taste what i had expected. I didnt taste the peppermint at all. So i had to ask the guys to help me to add in more peppermint for me. haha.

Well, it was another wrong decision again. Think the peppermint added this time was a lttle too much and too strong this round. It turned out a bit too sweet.

Its okay, hope to try out other coffee in the future. But definitely not going for this PM - peppermint mocha again. haha.

Portion is BIG!
Smile 2012-07-23

Botan Japanese Restaurant ( Raffles Place )
Was here with a big group of friends to try out this Japanese restaurant recommended by one of them. As we were having a rather big group, so we actually made reservation in advance (in case not enough seatings for us, heard that the restaurant is not very big) and we were happy that we were given a private VIP room!

I have ordered a Tempura Sashimi set which i liked. The sashimi were very fresh and delicious. and the portion was rather big! Was really happy for a big eater like me. The tempura and chawamushi were both nice but it was rather average lah..

One thing to mention about their miso soup. Hmm.. It tasted quite nice, just a liittle saltish. The tofu that they used was rather different and special. The tofu's texture wasnt like those smooth and soft tofu that we normally had. Their tofu's texture was more firm, it tasted something in between a tofu and a tau kwa. So it was rather special in a way. We were told by the staff, the tofu was specially made by their restaurant so it tasted different.

Overall, It was a nice dining experience as the food is nice and fresh, portion is big and the staffs are all rather nice and friendly. And most importantly, their pricing is reasonable. Would see myself coming back for more in the future.

I was here with a friend after some work to have some dessert on a Saturday afternoon. This was my first time here and it was highly recommended by my friend. She told me this is her favorite place because of the very nice ambience.

Yes, when i was there, i was capitvated by the beautiful enviroment. I like the place too. It was set amidst restful water lily ponds, which was really beautiful, peaceful and relaxing.

It was really a perfect place to enjoy my weekend afternoon with my favorite drink - a freshly and fragrantly brewed coffee and my favorite dessert - Tiramisu. Both the coffee and tiramisu tasted fresh and delicious. Its yummy. I really enjoy spending my day there.

Newly opened - Trattoria Gallo D’Oro
Smile 2012-05-18

Trattoria Gallo D’Oro ( Clarke Quay )
I had an enjoyable dinner with my friend and fellow Openricers at a newly opened Italian restaurant - Trattoria Gallo D’Oro last night.

I seldom visit Italian restaurant, so im not too sure how does authetic italian food taste like. What i know is, i certainly like their food at Trattoria Gallo D’Oro! The pictures attached are the dishes i liked most. smile

I really like the authentic Emilia Romagna cold cuts. It was very thinly sliced and tasted simply yummy. I ate it together with their freshly made bread (the bread tasted really fresh, good and 'Q'). I spread a little cheese on the bread, with a slice of tomatoes, and a slice of cold cuts. Wow its tasted yummy, its absolutely my own 'subway', i think much better than that actually. haha.

Another favorite dishes that i really liked is the Sardine fritte - Deep fried sardines with onions and lemon. It is very crispy and freshly fried with a little saltish taste. And the sardines tasted rather fresh and soft on the inside. I wish to have more! Kind of addicted. Just cant stop eating. hehe.

As for the pastas, I love them both - Casonsei alla Bergamasca - Stuffed veal ravioli served with golden butter, crispy bacon and sage and Foiade del Gallo D’Oro - Homemade pappardelle pasta, with sausage and spinach. But i prefer the Homemade pappardelle pasta, with sausage and spinach a little more, cos its tasted so yummy and creamy but not that overwhelmming. And the sausage tasted so good and springy! I kept 'targeting' that. haha.

I quite like the dessert Torta della Nonna con gelato - Grandmother custard cake with vanilla gelato also. It has a lemony taste which i really like, but it might a little too sweet for me. I suppose Italian dessert taste sweeter? Anyway, it tasted very flavourful, a very good way to end our dinner. smile

   Today's Menu

Fresh buffalo Burratina cheese with sliced tomato

Selections of authentic Emilia Romagna cold cuts

   Freshly baked bread

Deep fried sardines with onions and lemon

Stuffed veal ravioli w butter, crispy bacon, sage

Homemade pappardelle pasta, w sausage & spinach

Xin Sheng Gor Hiong Prawn Cracker ( Boon Lay )
My dad bought my mom's favorite food today - Ngoh Hiong Prawn Cracker as mother's day celebration.

Have tried their Ngoh Hiong Prawn Cracker at their Vivo City's stall. It was nice and fresh which i really liked.

My dad has choosen quite a variety ngoh hiang prawn crackers. There were century eggs, fishcakes, prawn crackers, ngoh hiangs, bean curds, you tiao and the 'red sausage' - dont know what is the actual name for it.

It was still piping hot when my dad bought it back. It was really nice as it was freshly fried and hot. It was crispy and yet not oily at all. I love all the ngoh hiang prawn crackers! Its yummy.

Yakitori Enimaru
Just OK 2012-05-13

Yakitori Enmaru ( Orchard )
Meeting some friends at Ion Orchard for dinner tonight. As one of my friend actually suggested this Japanese restaurant and was highly recommended by him even though i am quite skeptical about it. He said they served very nice yakitori.

We were here around 8pm queueing and waiting for our seats for about 20 mins. Anyway, we were happy when we got our seats, even happier when we got our seats in a private room. There were 2 tables in this private room which can cater 2 groups of people in 4 or slighly more.

Its time to order our food. As I am not really a yakitori person, as usually i like food in big portion, not in small pieces. haha. So i have ordered a chicken ramen which was really nice, the ramen texture was so springy and 'Q' which i really liked. Ya of cos, the chicken soup was really flavourful too. Slurps. The sushi - california roll was very nice too.

Well as for their signature food - yakitori. Hmm.. I think it doesnt taste as what i imagined and expected. It wasnt that great. Maybe they have too many 'sticks' to grill. Some wasnt grilled properly. It wasnt marinate that well too.

Oh they served compliment Otoushi before our meal - Its raw cabbage pieces with miso paste which tasted quite refreshing and fresh. I wonder if it can be refilled. Forget to ask the waitress anyway. haha.
