Popular Chilli Crab Stalls in Singapore

1. Roland Restaurant @ Marine Parade
What better way to enjoy chilli crab than to have a taste of the original recipe that started the craze? Palm Beach Seafood Restaurant first sold chilli crab in the 1950s, and then the family running it sold the restaurant in 1984. Now it’s operating as Roland Restaurant at Marine Parade, named after the son of the chilli crab recipe creator Madam Cher Yam Tian. In comparison to other versions, the chilli crab here is rather spicy so if you like it hot, you’d appreciate the way Roland does it!

2. Jumbo Seafood @ East Coast Seafood Centre
Mud crabs are usually used to create the chilli crab dish, but here at Jumbo Seafood, they use live Sri Lankan crabs. Stir-fried to perfection in thick chilli gravy, you won’t be able to stop once you start mopping the delicious gravy up with those fried man-tou buns.

3. Red House Seafood Restaurant @ East Coast Seafood Centre
Established in 1976, Red House Seafood has long been in the business of tantalising taste buds. Most would describe the gravy of the chilli crab here as sweet rather than savoury, boasting a strong tomato base.

4. Ponggol Seafood @ Marina Country Club
Also claiming to be the inventor of chilli crab is Ponggol Seafood. According to restaurant manager Mr Ting Cheng Ping, his father Mr Ting Choon Teng came up with the innovative recipe. Ponggol Seafood’s chilli crab doesn’t have a starchy consistency like some unfortunately do and has the right amount of egg in the mix.

5. Chomp Chomp BBQ Seafood @ Serangoon
Fans of chilli crab go out of their way to visit Chomp Chomp BBQ Seafood to satisfy their crustacean craving, even though the wait for a seat is almost always a mood killer! The ingredients that make up the dish here are well-balanced and not too overpowering. Other dishes like the stingray are noteworthy as well so be prepared for a feast when you head down to this hawker stall!

6. Mattar Road Seafood Barbecue @ Old Airport Road Food Centre
Tucked away in a corner of famous food spot Old Airport Road Food Centre is Mattar Road Seafood Barbecue. The chilli crab gravy consists of peanuts, giving the dish a unique twist. Plus the reasonable prices make this stall a huge hit!
