Dim sum using my free $30 313 Somerset voucher, topped $14 for 10 items.Overall, dim sum is not bad, no service charges but has gst.(so service not good at all and the cashier is fierce).1.Like the scallop and prawn dumpling most!2.The har kao prawn is big and taste not bad too.. but the skin is sticky and too soft.3. The prawn chee cheong fun prawn is so small, and overcooked. A dim sum eatery inspired by Justice Bao legend, title was impressive. It had more than 30 kinds of Chinese traditional delicacies, especially buns and dumplings. Conveniently located at walking distance from Somerset MRT, business was not bad when we were there. The openrice food hunt brought me to try out Bao Today's siew mai, har gao and herbal jelly. The items were served in 5 mins and in big portions. Sadly it is packed me ajinomoto which made me so throaty after eating 1 siew Mao. Prolly one of the worse thing in a F&B establishment is the use of ajinomoto excessively in their food. Herbal jelly was ok in my opinion. The Har Gao ($4 for 3 pieces) is chalky and tasteless. The skin is overly thick and sticky. The Shao Mai ($3.50 for 3 pieces) is tough and chewy, very salty too. The Herbal Jelly ($2.80) is not herbal enough and not smooth at all. I think Bao Today should stick to selling only Buns in their eatery and not try to diversify themselves. I ordered the Beef Brisket Noodle: $6.80 and Deep Fried Golden Dumpling (6 pcs - $4.50) This tasted normal. The beef brisket was not very soft and a little hard to chew. My mom ate it and it took forever for her to finish chewing one small piece. The soup is a little too salty for my liking. However, I must say that the noodle is springy which is the saving feature of this dish.This fried dumpling is quite bad. The crispy part isn't crispy at all. It's like they left the dumpling there for awhile and was getting soggy. I had to remove the fried part and only eat the ate the fillings inside. At about $0.80 per piece, I don't think it's worth it. As I've eaten their Baos before, which tastes phenomenon. Waiting at 313 Somerset for my facial (at Centrepoint) , This place is open with limited seats (gets a little warm during afternoon), the service would be understandably slow while waiting for bun to be steamed fresh.Ordered Custard Bun, Har Gao, Chee Cheong Fun, Mango Roll, Yam Roll. Went for early dinner before movie. I ordered a few of their signature tim sum with different types of paus. I had high hope for their salted egg custard pau but turned out the skin was quite hard and the custard not running. The black sesame pau tasted better. The siew mai and hai kor tasted normal only. I was there for an afternoon break and ordered a few of their signature dim sum dishes. The prawn dumplings and siew mai were amongst the few. Both tasted rather decent but the prawn dumpling fared a little better. I could taste bits of prawns in it but the skin was a little too thick to my liking. I am a bao lover and when I saw "Bao today", I knew I must try itThe foodI ordered a char siew bao, char siew rice and black sesame bao. Char siew bao was not bad, as I love those with the opening on top of the bao. Char siew rice was displayed really nicely, probably the nicest I ever had in terms of how the char siew was placed. But it did not give me a "wow" factor. Not many places sell black sesame bao, so this is my first time trying it. It was so good, the black sesame oozed out immediately when I first bit it. It was similar to the egg yolk custard bao. I fell in love with it straight away. The AmbianceThere isn't a private area due to its location. Many people will just walk past and stare at you eating. love the custard baos here. very full of the nice lava flowing custard. nicely sweet and slightly salty. well balanced. another nice green colour to complement the yellow custard flowing out. it's very hot so you have to wait after you burst the bun to eat it. although, it is best eaten hot. the service is nice but the staff can be overly chatty. they have other dim sums here but i love their custard flowing buns best! don't remember exact price - $3 to $5, which i find is too expensive for buns…Read More

I've been here a few times and found the quality/value of the dim sum to be very acceptable. My usual favourites like har gow, siu mai, char siu bao etc are served nice and hot, with large portion sizes. Pricing is reasonable and location very handy for snack in between shopping at 313, and if you need a break from the air con (this is outdoors but under shelter). The whole place focus alot on the traditional theme. Furnished with rustic wooden tables and benches with the red lanterns hanging all over, eating here feels like going back a few century. Ordered a 1/2 assorted meat bao which not only taste nice but also look appetizing. The snow white dough bun is split into half and inside each half contains a colourful mix of mushrooms, chinese sausages, prawns, meat and salted egg yolk. Eat like a king without burning a hole in your pocket. It is really value for money having dim sum at Bao Today. Ordered the century egg porridge ($6.80) which is served in such a huge claypot that there is leftover even after sharing among 2 people. Anyway, don't be mistaken, the leftover is not due to the porridge being not nice. In fact, it is quite tasty. The kong ba bao ($4.80) is also something which I will recommend one to try. Bao Today is having a promotion in which it is selling the XO noodle (as shown in picture, siew mai not included) for $3.90. Though the dish looks quite simple (with only luncheon meat and egg), the noodle is quite tasty and hence, I will recommend one to give it a try (afterall it is only $3.90). Bao Today also serves delicious dim sums such as cha siew bao, siew mai, etc. Though the standard of the dim sum cannot be compared those Chinese restaurants, I think the dim sums taste quite good, especially the salted egg yolk bun, which I strongly recommend to all diners. :)…Read More
