2fifteen was named after its unit number, #02-15 in case many of us wander why such an imitable name.

As we entered the restaurant, we felt that Interior Design was well done up, with a concept more towards a modern French ambiance furnished against some rustic looking brick walls and wood-liked homogenous flooring. Chandelier was seen hanging from the fore-ceiling with place brightly lited. Apart from these welcoming designs, service was above average with observant server who come in once a while to topped up our glasses of drinks.

Executive Chef Kenny Yeo who helmed 2fifteen kitchen had his culinary skills honed at Le-Cententaire Hotel-Restaurant, 3 Star Michelin establishment in France, some Singapore's best restaurants including Les Amis and at various private functions with reputable guests including the former Singapore's Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.

During my visit, we had noted his presence and he was friendly enough to give us a smile and a waving gesture, saying "Hello" to us.

One need not worry about bringing the kids into the restaurant as they were children friendly. Service was professional as the child seat was already prepared when we were there.

One of the appetisers we had. Sprinkled heavily with vinargrette and if lucky, one can actually get to crush on the little sea salt crystals within.

Tangy tomato as the soup of the day. Sweet and tastes tad sour, standard, nothing to rave about.

An additional main ordered. Crispy Duck Confit from Perigord, Medley of Mesclun, Balsamic Vinagretter. Uncover the cracking crisp layer and you will find a layer of fat. Perfectly marinated and amazingly delectable accompanied with garden of Mesclun and roasted potatoes. Yums!

Enjoy every bite of the Warm Salad of Foie Gras with Grape Petite Sald and Raspberry Vinaigrette. This is a top up at ($14) on top of the adult main course. Look at the bubbles formation, isnt the pan-seared fragrant slab alluring? Once we had it in our mouth, it literally disintegrate and melts right away. Thumbs up!

Home-made Apple Tart comes with Crushed Almonds, Caramelised Sauce and Vanilla Ice cream. Freshly baked and 20 minutes baking time is required. Voted this for the best desserts among all orders. Served in a hot pan, these paper thin crust had packed our last dish with cracking bites! Shiok!

The presentation of Homemade Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese had brought laughter to the table. Served on a plate which reminds me of a tile from a renovation warehouse I had visited weeks ago, I thought this idea was crazy, nevertheless, I still find it innovative.

The dish was adorn with fruits like blueberries, raspberry, strawberries with 4 tiny dots of cranberry sauce at each corner, forming an invisible square. Carrot Cake was fragrant and not that oily with nuts and carrots crunch. A small ball of coconut ice-cream with coconut flakes was included too.

A special moment done up for the birthday girl. Take a look at the video.

I always think that having French Food in Singapore is costly. Amazingly, with the eminence of Chef Kenny Yeo, French Cuisine had been make wallet friendly, saving us from burning a hole in the pocket. I was rather surprised that the place was near empty considering that those dishes whipped out by reputable Chef Kenny Yeo was exquisite. It's really a hidden Gem in the west. For such quiet ambiance, this is a perfect spot to romance your date on weekends if this style floats your boat.

Do remember to make reservations for weekdays especially.

Service is attentive without being intrusive and special requests such as a birthday dessert platter are usually accommodated. It was indeed a lovely experience dining here at 2fifteen as the service staff try their utmost to make you feel at home and well looked after. Chef Kenny too is often seen outside the kitchen, talking to customers and finding out if they had enjoyed their food.

Prawn Cappellini in Aromatic Oil $26

A delightful burst of colours and aromas, this Prawn Cappellini reminded me a little of the Angel Hair Pasta served at Saveur with its signature style of twirling the pasta like a cannoli on the plate. Taste wise, it was a fusion of East meets West especially with the touch of spring onions added as garnishing. The prawns were fresh and sweet, pairing off well with pasta that was cooked al dente. Could hardly fault this one.

Pan-seared Cod Mignon with Crab Meat & Leek Veloute $38

A beautiful cut of Cod that was fatty, moist and smooth and the white flesh simply melted in our mouths. Absolutely adored the mash that was sitting under the Cod which was hardly grainy and had that lovely buttery consistency. Definitely one for the fish fans.

Crispy Duck Confit from Périgord, Medley of Mesclun, Balsamic Vinaigrette $36

I personally adored the Duck Confit which ticked all the boxes for me. A crispy well browned exterior with a cured meat that was poached wonderfully in its fat. While the others found the duck meat a tad too salty especially with the browned gravy, I obviously did not agree and cleaned it to its bone. Chunked potatoes served on the side too had a nice herb seasoning and roasted just right.

Seafood penne, cod fillet, sea prawns and baby clams in chopped tomatoes pronto herb sauce $20

This was unfortunately a disappointment for us even though it came highly recommended by the servers. The tomato herb sauce was a little flat and the penne to seafood ratio was off, with the latter being overwhelmed by the latter.

Dessert Platter $34

The staff at 2fifteen were very accommodating when they knew that the dinner was going to be a birthday surprise. They even added a sparkling candle to a dessert platter which they specially put together which was a lovely touch and I had a very surprised and happy best friend when it was all over. Especially enjoyed the petit madeleines with a berry burst and the mango passionfruit combination of the macarons.

Overall, dinner here at 2fifteen Kitchen is an enjoyable affair in a cosy and comfortable setting. Be sure to make your reservations as the restaurant can only hold a maximum of 45 people. I would personally recommend dropping by for their set lunches which are a lot more affordable, though the setting and tranquility of an evening here easily makes it perfect for a date night.

I was given promotional flyers for their weekday set lunch, so I decided to give this place a try. Thankfully they put up signboards to direct customers, else it's quite hard to find the place if it's your first time there. Granted, if you are looking for a quiet place, this is quite a good venue for chilling out. The interior is decorated with wood paneling and is rather comfy & classy at the same time. 2 of us opted for the 2-course menu ($24++) , choosing an appetizer and a main course each.-

- Complimentary bread

We were offered 4 small slices of toasted bread (from a French Loaf, I believe) with unsalted butter. Bread was nothing special although it was nicely toasted. The butter was not bad, it went well with the bread.

- Burgundy Salad, Baby Spinach and Sautéed Mushrooms, Poached Egg and Honey Mustard Dressing

I liked the burgundy salad (both of us had this). The serving size is small but well, it's an appetizer. I would have preferred the poached egg to be just slightly less watery, but it's still quite lovely nonetheless. The honey mustard dressing was really good, a fine balance between the honey & good mustard used. The mushrooms were nicely sauteed with just the right amount of flavor to it and the poached baby spinach beneath is tender. Recommended!

- Sautéed Milk Fed Veal and Assorted Mushroom Cream Sauce and Pasta

For the veal pasta, the spaghetti was cooked till al dente in a light-tasting cream sauce with a hint of wine. The assorted mushrooms tasted good but I was a bit disappointed by the veal. I had hoped it will be more tender or juicy but it's like regular slightly tough beef slices. Generally an ok dish.

- Pan-fried Whole Rainbow Trout, Brown Butter and Capers, Mashed Potatoes

Hmmm couldn't place any special taste to the brown butter. Perhaps it was used to pan fry the trout? The trout was fresh but tasted just like a regular pan-fried normal fish, nothing special. In fact, my dining companion who had this found it to be too dry and would have much preferred to have some sauce over the trout. It's my first time tasting capers - they look like really tiny green peas and have a sharp taste to it similar to a pickled green olive. Again, another ok dish.

Generally, with the exception of the burgundy salad appetizer, the rest of the dishes were just ok-tasting, nothing fantastic. You can still give the place a try for the ambience and also the good service provided by the wait staff. Supposedly the lunch set is priced at a affordable rate, but I still think it's a bit pricey - maybe the standard I set was too high for this price range, I guess.

Satiate your cravings for fine dining fare without putting a major dent in your wallet –2fifteen Kitchen is a ‘Frenchly’ restaurant helmed by local Chef Kenny Yeo, whose culinary skills were honed at several top restaurants in Singapore including Les Amis, and a Michelin 3 Star Hotel restaurant in France.

Bread is not made in-house, but it is served warm and crusty with a moist and fluffy interior. I’m not complaining. It appeases my rumbling stomach, and I even asked for a second basket. I was hungry.

Frementle Octopus Leg with Citrus Oil, Ripen Tomato and Pearl Mango

From the degustation menu we tried the Fremantle Octopus Leg that is drizzled with zingy citrus oil, and served along with ripen tomato and juicy mango. I’ve never enjoyed octopus as much as I did here; it is firm and succulent without being too chewy or resilient.

Quick-seared Foie Gras on Caramelised Watermelon, Green Apple Balsamic Syrup

An equally enchanting item from the degustation menu is the quick-seared foie gras with caramelised watermelon and green apple balsamic syrup.

The caramelised watermelon inspires me to want to replicate it in my home kitchen.

I can’t stop harping on about how much I love foie gras. I don’t wish to think about the poor duckies that suffered tremendously just so our ravenous cravings can be satiated. :/ Duckies, you did not suffer in vain. Your fatty liver is simply délicieux.

Demitasse of Truffle and Mushroom Cappuccino

The next course in the degustation menu after the salads is the Demitasse of Truffle and Mushroom Cappuccino. It is essentially soup, served in a coffee cup –except that as opposed to its name it is not served in a cappuccino cup but in an espresso cup.

Like espressos, the flavour is concentrated –and for this case, apart from flavour, the level of saltiness is also intensified. It is a tad salty for my liking, although it isn’t to the point of gag-inducingly salty. I would love a larger portion with a touch less salt please!

Prawn Cappellini in Aromatic Oil ($26)

The Prawn Cappellini in Aromatic Oil is simply European with an oriental flair. Traditional Chinese folks will find the aromatic oil – that seasons every strand of pasta – outstandingly familiar and comforting.

Slow seared Pork Belly with Savoy Cabbage, Green Apples & Prosciutto in Poultry Sauce ($30)

The dish of pork belly unfortunately missed the mark for me. It probably needed extra cooking time to yield fork-tender meat –it’s either fuming hungry diners from waiting, or displeased diners put off by tough meat eh?

The fatty parts were devoured the quickest –I especially enjoyed the slightly caramelised crust. There is no lack of flavour on the whole.

Pan-seared Cod Mignon with Crab Meat & Leek Velouté ($38)

The Pan-seared Cod Mignon with Crab Meat & Leek Velouté was my favourite dish that evening. Every element on the plate (except the green folks) worked for me –I simply ignored the snow peas (I have an aversion to greens) and devoured the rest.

Fish was tender and flaky, moist and juicy. Also commendable is the crabmeat and leek velouté that added another dimension to this dish.

Confit of Salmon Roulade with Soft Herbs, Wild Rice, Hazelnut Oil and Poultry Jus ($28)

Slow poached till tender and medium-rare, this dish does justice to one of my favourite kinds of fish –salmon. I would gladly have the salmon roulade served on a bed of a puree of some sort, instead of the texturally bizarre wild rice. It was a bit of a novelty for me and I wasn’t quite ready to embrace wild rice in my diet.

Sorbet

If you need a palate cleanser in between courses, the sorbet is perfect. Sorbets are not made in-house, but Movenpick can never go wrong.

Acquerello Risotto & smoked Duck Breast with pan-seared Foie Gras & Truffle Port Wine Sauce ($29)

The risotto arrived without a single flake of cheese, and I was slightly apprehensive by its mere façade. Once it entered my mouth, my perception changed. Risotto needn’t be cloyingly rich to be palatial.

The truffle port wine sauce was a great substitute to the artery clogging cream and cheese. The pan-seared foie gras was just the ‘cherry on top of the cake’.

Dry aged 21 days Sirloin Bone with Marrow in Truffle Port Wine Sauce ($130)

This $130 portion of steak is briskly demolished with room to spare. The question now is: would you rather go to a widely regarded steakhouse to satisfy your carnivorous needs?

The juicy slab of meat is lightly seasoned, allowing the natural beefy flavour to shine –sauce is hardly needed. I almost forgot about the sauce. The truffle port wine sauce is simply divine.

The accompanying potato gratin was of instant appeal. It is pure comfort food.

Dessert Tasting Platter

For dessert, we had a tasting platter of various desserts, which include the Yuzu Green Tea Cheesecake (from the degustation menu), Panna Cotta, Wildberry & Coulis ($12), Homemade Apple Tart, Vanilla Ice Cream & Almonds ($16) and homemade macaron.

The Yuzu Green Tea Cheesecake stood out in terms of taste –the yuzu jelly especially, lent a refreshing aftermath in my mouth.

The Homemade Apple Tart, Vanilla Ice Cream & Almonds ($16) can be ordered as a separate dessert on its own –I highly recommend this too. The tart is unlike any other tart I’ve ever eaten; it is crisply thin like a cracker in a form of pastry.

My Christmas Eve Feast comes free this year with a lucky win from OpenRice Christmas Contest. This means ditching the traditional turkey and all for an exquisite 5 course French Dinner at 2fifteen Kitchen in Buona Vista’s Rochester Mall.

Having made reservations for 2, we were quickly settled in by an attentive waiter. If not for the win, I will need to fork out $98 per pax for what's to come next.

Bread was served for small talks before the course commence. Warm & crispy at the edge, the bread was perfect with the flavorful chilled tuna. Pity that only butter was served for the 2nd serving.

We started our festive meal with Sea-fruit Platter. The use of 'fruit' was not a spelling mistake, it was deliberate to highlight the delightful pairing of fresh seafood with fruits. The colourful dish included Poached Boston Lobster with Grapefruit and Citrus Oil, Warm Octopus Leg with Pomelo Jelly, and Oyster on Watermelon and Passionfruit Coulis.

The Oyster on Watermelon and Passionfruit Coulis was especially pleasing to the eye. The raw oyster accompanied by sweet watermelon and zesty passionfruit coulis offered an enjoyable erratic flavour that's hard to forget.

Next up was the lobster bisque-infused Brittany-style Scallop with Chorizo Sausage. The scallop delivered a lovely bouncy chew. There was too little of the sausage to make out much from it.

We moved on to Jerusalem Artichoke Soup and Duck Foie Gras with a touch of Garlic Oil. The gratifying soup was just what was needed to balance the richness of the foie gras.

For the main, we have a choice between the Australian 150-day grain-fed Beef Hanging Tender with Truffle Mashed Potatoes or Pan-seared Rosy Snapper Fillet with Crispy Herb’s Crust with Truffle Mashed Potatoes and Brown Jus.

The sweet ending to the 5-course meal was a dainty Chestnut ‘Christmas Tree’ Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream. Points awarded for the pretty layout but the 3-layer chestnut cake and ice cream was a little too ordinary. Fruits never really cut it when it comes to desserts for me.

Tea was ordered after our 5 course dinner to aid digestion. The side cookies are unbelievably cute!

The food borders between good & amazing but the service by the more experienced waiter was excellent.

I loved it! Instead of olive oil, Chef used prawn oil. This idea was genius because it only made the cappellini more special... and flavourful.

What I like about the restaurant is that the dishes weren't so expensive (unlike most fine dining French places).
