I have tried their shepherd's/seafood pie quite a long time ago, and I recently realized that it is not on their online menu anymore (surprising because it was quite popular before). I hope they do still serve the dish as it is very delicious. Love the mashed potato baked till golden brown with some crispy crumbs on the top layer. Serving of seafood was also rather generous. Also loved the gravy within the pie.

Was craving for some breakfast food, so decided to try Arbite. Cosy environment, located on the second storey, seating is limited, so best to reserve in advance if you intend to visit during dinner hours. They serve all day breakfast, and the eggs benedict immediately drew my attention, as it is one of the cheapest I have come across at around $11. Service was also good as they allowed me to change the salad that comes with it to sauteed mushrooms. Simple dish well done.

I was in the Serangoon Gardens area when I saw this restaurant with a curious name...Arbite. But it was the fact that they were serving All-Day Breakfast that made me decide to give it a go. Breakfast set. Obviously, they don't specialize in breakfast food as the bacon was too hard to even bite off and the rest on the plate is similar to what I can make. Maybe I am a pretty good cook! (LOL)

Dad loved this lamb shank. It didn't have the odor most mutton/lamb shanks have and I love how the meat is so soft and placed over mashed potato, garnished with some carrots and greens.

Mushroom Salad
French beans, sauteed mixed mushrooms, roasted cherry tomatoes, Japanese cucumbers, pickled onions and mesclun leaves with basalmic dressing.
I do not recall seeing any French beans though, but the pickled onions were unique in its shape and is extremely sour. Very good as a starter to whet a person's appetite. This was ordered by Pretty Mum so I had not done much tasting.

Pan Fried Barramundi
Fillets of barramundi pan fried with thyme, served with mashed potatoes and fresh greens, dressed with a tomato and kalamata olive salsa

This is a main course on its regular menu. Compared to other restaurants, the number of filets on this plate is a lot more ( as they are being stacked up, not just existing as a single sole piece). The dressing of tomato & kalamata olive salsa was tangy, crunchy & savoury. A nice side to have along the fish as the filet is only lightly seasoned. However, I cannot truly say that the fish is really fresh but this is just a simply and tasty fare to have. The mashed potatoes were fine and smooth in texture but they were not mixed with spices. However, this is one of the best mash i've eaten so far.

Hmm, having tried their food, I hope that there are more desserts selection here. They did not seem appealing to me on the menu (available online) so I ordered none this time. Perhaps because it is located in the suburbs neighbourhood, the prices here are much more affordable, though not very cheap but still rather value for money.

reason why my partner and i were back here again was because our first experience with Arbite was good, and second is they are having a 2nd year anniversary promotion which 2nd menu order is on 50% off! third reason is because they just changed their menu!

Tri Pepper Spaghettini with Soft shelf crab (the spaghetti tasted like stir fried noodles (生面), soft shelf crab is very juicy and nice, but price @ $26.90 i do think that it is a little bit over priced although they are serving a whole mini crab)

Pappardelle with Mushroom and Parma Ham (maybe it's not kind of pasta that i will appreciate, cause i don't like the taste of the Parma ham at all, $19.90) and reason why we tried this dish was because on Arbite's Facebook page, everyone is like "liking" this dish...

Old Rascal Apple Cider Beer (Strong "wood" after taste, $14 for 500ml) didnt expect it to taste so "wood", was hoping for a little bit taste of apple... but never...

Arbite accept reservation.. so call before you go... because sometimes ppl book the whole restaurant for events..

Came across Arbite after my friend and I had our dinner at Serangoon Garden, so we told ourselves we should drop by again soon,

so when we dropped by again the next time, the whole restaurant was fully booked by someone as they are holding birthday party.

so the 3rd time we became smarter, we ring them up first before going over. so this time round we finally get to try it.

Signature Mushroon Soup (@ least four to five different kind of mushroon are used, tasty but a little bit salty for me, and it will be good if they have at least a piece of toast bread to go along with it)

Pork Schnitzel (Deep Fried Crispy Pork Cutlet with Mushroom sauce dressing topped with BlueCheese) really crispy pork cutlet, but some ppl might not like the smell of blue cheese...

Dory Meuniere (Pan Fried Dory with Garlie Topped with Prawns) The dory are very crispy outside and tender inside, prawns are chewy too! Love LOVE LOVE their Mashed potatoes

will definitely be back for more! price consider reasonable to the quality of food.

Finally got a chance to have a meal at Arbite! It’s located at Serangoon Gardens, in a shop space above Guardian. Arbite is a play on the german word arbeit which refers to work. The place is really small actually, don’t think the restaurant can take too many people (reservations a must!) but the interior is rather cozy, exuding a very IKEA kind of vibe- a combination of simple layout and wooden furniture. There is also a fascination with lego blocks in this place, with a play area stocked with lego. Little kids will be kept occupied here!

Pappardelle with Mushrooms and Parma Ham ($19.90). Yet another pasta dish I cannot really pronounce, but this is really awesome. The tantalizing smell of hot cream sauce and slightly fried ham was the first thing that hit me when the dish was first served. It’s pasta served with button mushrooms, spinach, ham in cream sauce drizzled with truffle oil. Pappardelle according to wikipedia, is essentially a large, very broad fettuccine. The name is derived from the verb “pappare”, or to gobble up. This is one dish I want to gobble up and also maybe brush up on my Italiano.

And from Italy, we move over to a bavarian/austrian staple- Pork Schnitzel ($17.90). Reading the description already made me salivate- breaded pork loin served with mash potatoes, seasonal vegetables, blue cheese apple butter and gravy. Wah. This dish comes with two large generous portions of pork and would satisfy carnivores. I’m not too sure if the tangy blue cheese apple butter flavour went well with the breaded pork. Perhaps it is there to up the sinfulness of having this dish.

Dessert time! Gula Melaka Tiramisu ($5.50) This is really awesome! Who knew gula melaka would go so well with an italian dessert To be fair, the gula melaka taste was not overwhelming the cocoa and liquor but there was a subtle hint of the palm sugar taste.

My Wife’s Chocolate Cake ($8). Actually I’m not too sure what the big fuss about this dessert is about. Yes, it’s a nice chocolate cake served with movenpick vanilla ice cream. I guess it’s well balanced, not too overly sweet, jelerk kind of chocolate fudge cake.

I would love to come back here for more home-made pasta and all-day breakfast sets =)

Arbite is located at Serangoon Gardens, next to Borsch and Sushi Tei on the second storey of one of the shophouses. Nostalgic lego blocks were being used creatively and generously as part of the interior décor. The light wooded furniture, light, muted palette and wide windows creates a relaxing MUJI style atmosphere.

Arbite offers a two course set lunch menu at $11.90+ which consists of a Soup (which you could upgrade to a Mushroom Soup or Clam Chowder with an additional fee), two choices of main courses and a choice of drink.

The Iced Citrus Tea seemed to be a concoction tea with various citrus fruits consisting including lime and lemon. A refreshing drink that is semi-sweet.

The Soup of the Day when we visited Arbite was a Cream of Spinach Soup which was quite okay, but the stock seemed to be a little too strong, overpowering the spinach and other flavours. Texture wise, it was a more fluid than creamy soup, hence not too heavy on the palette.

My colleagues seemed satisfied with their Clam Chowder.

For main course, I had the Spaghetti with Chicken, Leeks, Cherry Tomatoes and Mushrooms Aglio Olio Style. The item got me with its “aglio olio”. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce satisfied my demands for aglio olio, not too much garlic and there was a pleasant hint of spice. Although I found the pasta to be somewhat oily and the garlic not being cooked long enough, I still enjoyed my pasta for its flavour and the right amount of spice.

The Shepards Pie wasn’t something I enjoyed personally. I felt that the mutton was too gamey and there isn’t enough cheese. The mashed potato was too much, dominating the whole dish. This resulted in a jelak feeling halfway through the Shepards Pie.

The dessert was the star of the day. My Wifey’s Chocolate Cake (8.00 SGD) came with a scoop of Movenpick Vanilla Ice Cream. The Movenpick Vanilla Ice Cream that accompanied the cake does not need any introduction. It was good ice cream in short. The chocolate fudge cake was served warm with a generous amount of warm chocolate sauce. It was a very rich chocolate fudge cake yet not too sweet. Texture wise, it is quite dense, similar to a brownie. I enjoyed every bit of this dessert together with the Movenpick Vanilla Ice Cream. It is a god-send for any chocoholics who love a good rich chocolate cake.

To sum up, Arbite is a nice place to chill out and have some pastas or western food with your small group of friends. You also get to people watch or just simply watch the buses come and go as you relax for a cup of beverage and a dessert to go with it such as my Wifey’s Chocolate Cake or the Fruit Terrine. They also offer 10% discount if you work nearby (within 3 km), just show your business card to enjoy that promotion if the conditions were met.
