Not a bad place for some cheap and good cheese baked rice or pasta! I loved my Japanese curry sauced baked rice with mushroom and salmon!!!! delish! Would totally have it again! I also got an oreo freeze which was def a great drink to wash down all that cheese! These cheesy snack platter is also a treat! The cheese fondue is bubbling non stop and the cheese has a sweet tangy taste to it! I would have to come back to Eighteen Chefs to checkout more of their offerings.Service : since it's a nett priced place, you would go up to the cashier to order and the waiter would serve the dishes to you. continue reading

For full review - http://midas400.blogspot.sg/2014/09/late-lunch-at-eighteen-chefs-nex.htmlI've heard about this casual diner for a while and was keen to try but it always has a long queue during meal times. My opportunity came when I was on leave and had an appointment to fix my hair at Nex.I arrived at around 3.50pm, there was no queue but the eatery was <80% occupied. Many were youngsters and students, perhaps due to the ongoing student price promo. This place adopts a self-service model where patrons check the menu and fill out an order chit by themselves and proceed to the cashier to make payment. Dishes will be served to the table when ready. Cutlery and condiments are available beside the cashier for patrons to help themselves.I ordered their special 'Design Your Own Dish' Pasta in Broth. Patrons can follow a 4 steps process to choose their own soup base, pasta type, main ingredients and optional top up for extra ingredients. There is also a Be Your Own Chef menu for patrons to customize their own baked rice or baked pasta. My order was a Tom Yum Soup Fusilli w/ Seafood & additional Salmon cubes for $17.30. I topped up $3.30 to make it into a Combo meal with drink (Ice Lemon tea or Soft drink) and ice cream. You can top up more to get Soup of the day and garlic bread to go with the main course. After several minutes wait, I was served with a huge bowl of piping hot soupy pasta with generous amount of ingredients. The main ingredients consists of fresh prawns, squids and mussels with some veggies like broccoli, cauliflower and carrot in the soup. The seafood were very fresh and succulent. And, the additional pan fried salmon cubes were nicely done as well. The tom yum soup was very rich, tangy and really spicy...delish!The Homemade Ice Lemon tea was pretty good, and the small serving of Vanilla ice cream was ok, nothing really special. All in all, I quite like my dining experience at the Eighteen Chefs, food is good with huge serving and prices are down to earth. They do not charge for service and GST, so all prices are NETT. I can see why the eatery is popular with the younger crowd. I would gladly return again during off peak hours to try other dishes. continue reading

Eighteen Chefs is a successful social enterprise in Singapore. It was the winner of the 2012 president’s challenge social enterprise award (social enterprise of the year). Chef Benny Se Teo has gone through alot to create this restaurant chain. Most young people like to dine in here as it provides nice food at affordable prices. It feels like a fast food restaurant with its bright coloured counter, where one orders and pays. Remember to help yourself to the sauces and cutlery at the side counter.Aligo Olio with Mushroom Chicken ($12.80+)Aglio Olio with grilled chicken topped with mushroom sauceThe pasta is quite flavourful and tasty on its own. The grilled chicken is juicy , topped with a rather thin and crispy skin. Although it is stated as mushroom sauce on the menu, I could not find a slice of mushroom. The sauce is quite tasty with lots of minced garlic. To make it a combo meal, topped up $3.80+ for a drink and a soup of the day at $3.80+. For the drinks, there is a choice of soft drinks and ice lemon tea. I have ice lemon tea which I feel it is not bad.The soup of the day turns out to be chicken soup. There is thin slices of chicken breast in the thick soup, as well as, lots of minced garlic. It tastes like canned version type with its uneven texture.Overall food is not bad. Service is a bit uneven as it is more like no frills place. continue reading
