Wanted to try the Vietnamese food across the road but there was a long queue. We were sold by the pictures of celeb at the door (do not fall into the same trap as us!) and decided to try itThere is the traditional teochew soup - it tastes like peppery porkbone with chinese celery. It didnt suit my tastebuds, found it quite strange and didnt get better after cooking one round of ingredients in it.It's very pricey (more expensive than J-Pot, which is way better!)I will not recommend this place.

This is my extended family favorite steamboat place. Well known for their teochew style of steamboat and cooked dishes, its usually packed on weekends with the table turning over at least 2 to 3 times. This alone explains the popularity of this dinner joint. I was particularly fond of the shark bone with corn soup base which taste so well after one round of seasoning with the steamboat ingredients. We order lots of sides, tang-o, water cress, a red garoupa ($38), pork dumpling ($5), baby clams, different types of tou kee, the special meat ball, the home-made squid ball etc. The condiments are standard with green shallots, chilli padi and garlic. They uses the electric induction cooker which is good as it seems easier to control the heat distribution evenly on the pot. Will definitely return and definitely this time focus more on the Dou Gen Tiao at $5 per plate, Meat Ball ($6 for 7) and Squid Ball ($8 for gluey paste).

Actually we wanted to try out the Korean Crystal BBQ & Steamboat directly opposite their restaurant but we made a U-turn as there's nothing much special so we decided to settle our dinner here. This is my second time here.

Just looking at their front door you will be able to see a lot of famous stars from local or overseas who patronize their restaurant. They sure have that kind of popularity! And because the boss and staffs here are sincere, over time they have build up their branding and reputation. They also have their strong base of regulars who patronize them not just because of their good services but also their MSG free soup base and the fresh ingredients they prepare themselves.

This is a branding that focus on delivering quality then quantity. They have confident on their signature soup base and signature dishes. Thus, they even came out with the slogan that says:

Meaning if the food is not nice, you don't have to pay.

This steamboat restaurant is different from the rest of the steamboat restaurants. At Teochew Traditional Steamboat, you order what you want and then pay according to what you order. It is not the usual pay a net price kind. Thus, it can be pretty steep as it is pay by per dish. E.g. Soup Base $10, Pork Belly $8, Cabbage & Seaweed each $4. As such, the total bill for 2 of us amount to $73.40 (no GST and Service charge).

If you want quality, that's the price to pay.

The signature must have is their handmade pork ball, fish ball and the sotong paste. When you order the sotong paste, the staff will help you scoop the paste into ball shape.

The steamboat here is like those homely steamboat you have at home. You can expect the same homely taste here. As they don't use MSG, the soup itself is very flavorsome and with all the ingredients add in, the taste is pure, sweet and very refreshing.

Unlike most of the steamboat restaurants who offer you a lot of sauces, they have their ready made sauce ready for you.

Aloe Vera Drink

This is an alternative beside the M Hotel steamboat buffet which is the ultimate best.

And if you wish to patronize them during weekends do make your reservation to avoid disappointment, especially during Chinese New Year period!
