JJ Japanese cuisine in Koufu at Kallang Leisure has its fair share of regular patrons by the residents who live nearby, as well as the office workers in the nearby blocks. The Japanese cuisine served here is really no-frills (albeit not entirely authentic) Japanese style bento box sets. There are several permutations of the bento combinations -teriyaki chicken with ebi fry, teriyaki salmon with chicken katsu, etc. They also have japanese curry I ordered a teriyaki salmon and chicken katsu bento ($5.80), which came with miso soup, rice and a side dish of pickled vegetables (i found this to be a bit odd because it seemed more like acar rather than a Japanese pickle). The teriyaki salmon was relatively good -the fish wasn't too fishy and the fish flaked off nicely. The teriyaki sauce wasn't too smoky nor salty, and it was a pleasant balance. The chicken was terribly disappointing though, the meat was flat and the outside wasn't particularly crispy either. Tastewise, it seemed more like frozen cutlets hastily heated up (which was probably the case, unfortunately) rather than fresh lean cuts, breaded and fried.Portion wise and value wise, I'd say the value is somewhat there. At $5.80 you get a soup, a generous serving of rice, two meats and pickles. I did wish that the chicken was fresher though, it would have made all the difference when fried! continue reading

Nice Japanese food here. The quality has gone down a bit recently. And they are always out of chawanmushi lately. It's quite a popular stall. The curry is nice and sweet and not overly soupy. There are nice potato chunks and some small chunks of meat. The rice is nice done short grain. the miso soup used to be better as well. We usually come to this stall in this food court as most of the other stalls are below standard. continue reading

I had ate the Teriyaki version of this Omelette rice, well, It tastes really nice at the omelette rice part, as they have added taste to the rice, and the egg wrapped around it of course. I added chilly powder to the fish as I think it will taste nicer, but no difference. The fish is really hard like It will destroy all my teeth. The soup also another one. I think it is because i am not a Japanese food fan, so that i hate the soup. Anyway, you should try the food. Its quite nice continue reading
