I've been wanting to check out this cupcake bakery as they have some unique flavours! I takeaway 2 cupcakes only but they put it in a nice solid box ^^ I chose the Kaya and Rose Caramel cupcake, both of which I have been eyeing after seeing pictures online! I love kaya and was really curious as to how it will taste like in cupcake form. The cake base is actually pandan mixed with coconut with a kaya cream cheese frosting. I love kaya and was really curious as to how it will taste like in cupcake form. The cake base is actually pandan mixed with coconut with a kaya cream cheese frosting. The Rose Caramel cupcake is made up of a vanilla cake base with a salted caramel core with rose and salted caramel buttercream. Between the two, I prefer the Rose Caramel flavour as the Kaya flavour is quite bland. I love the tinge of 'bandung' taste from the Rose Caramel frosting and it instantly became my favourite! I also like that the cake base is light and fluffy, not dry at all! The other flavours include Red Velvet, Chocolate, Matcha, Salted Caramel, Mocha Chocolate, etcetc. I will definitely be back again!

With more cupcake parlours opening up in Singapore, it is obvious that Singaporeans are susceptible to the charms of sexy cupcakes. Just a few months ago, Tiong Bahru welcomes a pretty cupcake parlour – Kisses bakery. Phil, Wendy and Wanting took over a 60-year-old Chinese provision shop called “Hup Seng” when its owner retired. The trio was inspired by the cupcake parlours in Melbourne, so they came up with some swiss flavour combination on top of the usual suspects. These include Rosé caramel which has a vanilla cake base with salted caramel core, rose buttercream and salted caramel buttercream. I love their meltingly smooth and subtly flavoured buttercream, it’s not too heavy for my palette. Rose buttercream is the first cupcake I tried and that is my favourite cupcake. Their cupcake base may not be the lightest but it is good enough for me.

Some unique asian flavours include the Kaya cupcake which my Grandpa loves very much. Pandan-infused coconut cake based with a kaya cream cheese frosting and kaya swirl – yummy!

Chocolate lovers can try something more unique – White chocolate raspberry cupcake with vanilla cake studded with white chocolate chip and a fresh raspberry topped with raspberry cream cheese frosting and white chocolate curls. You can expect about 10 flavours from them everyday.

If you prefer the classics, of course there is Red velvet Cupcake, Chocolate chocolate Cupcake, Salted caramel Cupcake, Mocha chocolate cupcake etc.

I am happy to know that they are sold out almost everyday, despite being a totally new kid in the neighbourhood. Many office ladies nearby will always go and grab a cupcake or two after their lunch breaks. Hence if you want to have your favourite flavour, be sure to visit them early!

Located at Tiong Bahru area, lies a cupcake shop call Kisses Bakery. Offering a wide variety of cupcake at $3.50 each, I choose their the mocha and gula melaka cupcake, which is their special flavour of the month. The cupcake were indeed soft and yummy, the frosting were also very generous as well. The gula melaka was so delicious, as I could taste the fragrant from every bite I took. I hope they will make it to be their permanent cupcake. Definitely coming back for more.

It was a challenge to spot the Kisses Bakery because of the misleading mandarin words 'Cheng He'. I initially thought it was some auspicious or fengshui reasoning but a friend told me that the previous tenant was actually selling provisional goods, therefore they didn't take it down to retain the rustic charm in the Tiong Bahru estate. A chalkboard is an artistic way to display one's menu items and prices, and kisses made it really easy by having a consistent fair pricing throughout all their cupcakes. Only $3.50 each! The box is a simple plain-white looking one, and I believe they can do better in the packaging of their box as cupcakes are growing to be a customary gift from a woman to a man, or vice versa. There are exceptions, of course.

There is a beautifully framed-up photo which bears the word, "Keep Calm And Eat A Cupcake". We received great service from the store owner, who also took a picture of us with the photoframe and even posted up on their Facebook page! I loved the ambient, though a little cheerful upbeat music in the store would definitely lighten up the atmosphere.

They had a rather simple display of the cupcakes, and it was quite clear-cut on whichever to choose.

White Chocolate Raspberry*
This is a popular flavour and was recommended by the store owner. As the title says it, the toppings over the cupcake included white chocolate droppings on raspberry cream. It wasn't overly sweet, and tasted really gooooooood.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip*
This is another favourite choice among the patrons, and I thought Peanut Butter was a rather tricky flavour to deal with. Kisses definitely hit it off well, and I personally would recommend you to try this... it reminds me of my primary school days where I'd make myself peanut butter bread before going to school! *smiles widely*

Double Chocolate Chip
I got a small bite out of this and felt it is really for those who are chocolate-lovers... it tasted sinful to me, because the cupcake is so rich in chocolate both at the top and at the bottom. I love the smell that protrudes from the cupcake though.

Kaya
This is a rather interesting flavour that I felt the owner tried to inject local flavour into such a sweet dessert, and I must say it was rather ingenious of them! The coconut taste wasn't very strong and the kaya was quite mild, but I had a preconceived notion that kaya shouldn't be priced at $3.50... perhaps for the innovation, yeah.

Red Velvet
I've always been a fan for Red velvet cupcakes, but I wasn't too pleased with the tiny little red lips as a decoration on the cupcake. Usually its' a large piece of heart, traditionally it should be. Perhaps this should be in line with kisses' erm, bakery store name, but the lips were too small that it felt like it should be called 'The Little Red Dot' instead. Anyway, the cupcake base was quite delicious but I think that the cream can do a better job!

If you're not ordering a box of 6, I think you should put your moolah in both Peanut Butter cupcake as well as White Chocolate Raspberry
. Grab some tea as well, they go along perfectly with such sweet treats!

It was my first time trying cupcakes from this new cupcake place. Well, they have pretty nice flavours available like Kaya and Caramel. I was able to try the peanut and red velvet flavours. Heard their peanut flavour is their signature but I am a big fan of red velvet and I have to say they make pretty nice cupcakes. Their cupcakes are moist and delicious. Generous amount of cream cheese in the Red velvet and the peanut is really a must try. I would want to try on their other flavours as well.
