Japanese ice cream has always been a great hit among most people and yet i am definitely loving this ice cream sundae here at Macha House!! This sundae consist of the popular green tea/Matcha ice cream, vanilla ice cream, my great love-red azuki beans and mochi balls. This combination is really fantastic and i love how everything goes so nicely with the milk inside the sundae.

The Maccha Latte was prepared like a usual latte, only replacing coffee with Maccha. It tasted pretty much like a very strong green tea with a dash of milk added, though there was really too much green tea powder used that made it felt very gritty and stuck on the throat. he vanilla ice-cream used on the Maccha Latte here is a replacement for a Maccha-flavoured ice-cream which was sadly unavailable that day.

The Spicy Pork Rice with Soft-Boiled Egg is one of a few rice sets you can get there. The pork is basically stir-fried in spicy sauce and placed on top of rice with a soft-boiled egg. While the soft-boiled egg is runny and pretty well executed, the pork was not amazing. The spicy sauce was fine, but each slice of pork had bones in them which ruined the meal experience overall. The oiliness of the spicy sauce also prevails when you are at the bottom of the bowl of rice where the rice is just coated with a layer of oil from the spicy sauce.

My friend ordered Matcha Ice Cream Anmitsu ($7.90) which was served with azuki, jelly and tangerine. The set came along with brown tea too. My other friend ordered a Mixed Dorayaki ($9.90). We were all shocked when this was served. Not only it was huge, it didn't look like the photo of the dorayaki presented in the menu. There was lots of whipped cream which my friend didn't like and the whole presentation looked rather messy.

I thought of having something simple so I ordered Matcha Soy Milk Pudding ($5.90). The texture was very firm and not the common bouncy type of pudding. However, the dessert was also very very bitter! After I poured the whole mini-cup of sweet syrup into my pudding, I also took Sam's syrup and poured everthing into it!

We were wondering around after super filling lunch. And decided to rest our feets here and try their extremely intriguing green tea desserts. After studying the menu for a while, I've decided to try their Maccha Soft Serve Anmitsu, an ice cream dessert served with azuki beans, fruit bits and kanten jelly (a.k.a. agar agar locally). The dessert set comes with a cup of tea and a shot of sweet house made green tea syrup for the tasteless jelly. It was quite nice but a tad pricey at $7.90 (similar dessert at MOF was selling at $6.20 and serving was bigger).

My friend ordered the Mixed Dorayaki set $9.90. My friend said the Dorayaki pancake was overcooked and the overly huge lump of whipped cream makes the dessert hard to enjoy, however the ice cream was nice though.

The Maccha soy pudding $5.90 was extremely bitter and after pouring 2 shot glasses of syrup didn't helped dispel the bitter aftertaste on the tongue. I guess this dessert is best ordered by a matcha fan?

Close up of the Dorayki.

It was basically 2 pieces of Japanese pancake sandwiching a scoop of green tea and vanilla ice cream, green tea and normal whipped cream, mochi rice balls and red beans with green tea syrup. While the ice cream complemented the rather tasteless pancakes, the whipped cream did little to enhance the taste of the dish as they were quite bland and so I removed it from the dish. The rice balls were alright and the green tea syrup and sweet red beans helped to add more flavour to an otherwise plain dish.

While it was an okay dessert, I would not come back again for it as the price of $9.90 can be well-spent on more satisfying desserts elsewhere.

It is indoors, open-concept, totally fuss-free environment. Besides green tea drink and desserts, they do serve ramen. Perhaps, I would try it next time.

We ordered a traditional green tea drink ($3.90) which came in a set with Shiratama. So, look at the table tag on top for the instructions on how to make traditional green tea. I got to say the green tea is really thick and have a bitter and dry after-taste due to it's thickness. If you're a green tea lover and would appreciate a cup of pure green tea, then this is the set you should try!

We tried the green tea ice-cream with Kanten Jelly and Shiratama ($6.80). It came with fruits and Azuki Red bean as well as a cup of Jasmine Green Tea. If you like your dessert to be sweeter, they have sweet sauce for you to add as well. The green tea ice-cream is nice and the combination with red bean was good. However, I did not feel that it was very different and unique. For the price, I guess it's really affordable.

For the price, I think I would be back to Maccha house!

We dropped by during lunchtime and I decided to try their Kyoto Style Ramen ($10.90+)which was described as having some yuzu seasoning. Unfortunately, the ramen did not live up to expectations- while the noodles were sufficiently springy, the soup was served lukewarm and the bowl just contained some chicken slices and vegetable ingredients. The yuzu seasoning was not really detected at all, which was a disappointment. I was wondering how yuzu flavoured ramen would taste.

Perhaps it’s a good idea to stick to the green tea based food here. I had their Hot Matcha Latte ($4.40+) which I felt had a nice balance of fragrant matcha and milk. The matcha drink was a tad too sweet for me and unfortunately, the sweetness level cannot be altered as I was told their matcha base is pre-made.

Do note the prices listed on the menu are not inclusive of 7% GST. Charges will be added at the cashier.

Chanced upon Maccha House at the basement of OC and decided to give their maccha ice-cream a try - being a huge sucker for Japanese food. Ordered a matcha soft serve, and this cafe definitely does take the word "soft" in soft serve seriously. The aftermath

Apart from the fact that the ice-cream was too soft for my liking, the taste was outstanding and highlighted the rich taste of matcha that is more often than not, entirely missing in other green tea ice-creams available in Singapore.

Though the quality of the matcha powder was quite average, I would definitely drop by again – great place to simply chill, chat and savour a hot cup of healthy matcha!

Would definitely visit again as I'm a fan of all food Japanese and especially matcha-flavoured food!
