Finally I got the chance to try out Ming Kee's congee after a long wait! It was such an lucky incident as for over 3 years of lunching in West Coast Square Hawker Centre, I have never seen them opened during my lunch hours. Even if they do so, they are either cleaning the stall or packing up for end business day.

This afternoon as I approached the stall, it was already half dimmed, a common scene where hawkers indicating that they are closing. I had a strong sense telling me that food were out of stock again but there then I still saw 2 customers waiting for their food and I decided to ask if there are any more left.

Bingo! The lady told me that 1 bowl of congee is left and I ordered the pork with peanut congee. While waiting, I took a look into the stall and saw an industrial grade congee boiler with a stirring jig in the middle. It is no wonder the texture of the congee is so smooth and have such ood consistency.

Yes as compared to other congee / porridge stall in the vicinity, Ming Kee is no doubt the best. Pork porridge came with balls of marinated minced meat and was so tasty. Condiments like fried fritters, shredded ginger , spring onions, pepper and sesame oil were all available at the counter.

Since its end of the business day, the generous lady poured a wholesome amount of fritters onto my bowl. Porridge was really good but when can I have such luck again to try on others kinds of congee?

Chicken congee $2.50 - The congee was very watery and fine which is good for people who are sick or like plain food. It was quite bland though, probably because no extra sauce or condiments were added. The shredded chicken was a real disappointment as it was really dry and so tough that I could not really bite and swallow it so I ended up spitting some out. Their meat congee certainly fares better so I will not advise you to get this.

Meatball porridge $2.50. I ordered a bowl of meatball porridge with egg $3. Portion is not really a lot but filling enough for a meal. This is good if you want a light meal. The meatballs were nice and the texture of the porridge was consistent, more of mushy than coarse. If you want to try this, you have to go very early in the morning before they close!

brunch was a satisfying and filling bowl of chicken porridge for $2.50. The congee's texture was not too watery, it was just right. The chicken was average-tasting and it was the porridge that makes me want to eat more. The taste of the porridge was further enhanced by the fried onion toppings, soy sauce and pepper. There was a bit of a queue early in the morning but thankfully, I was near the front of the queue and got my order in less than 5 minutes.

Ordered a bowl of meat congee for breakfast at about 10 am. It costs $2.50 and the additional ingredient of egg costs $3. There were lots of ingredients (pork minced balls, pork slices, pig liver) in the bowl of congee. The portion was quite generous and the price is really affordable too. This stall also has award which made me want to try it out! When it was 10.30am, I intended to takeaway a bowl of congee but they were closing the stall already!
