I was looking around for breakfast in the area and chanced upon this stall that sells pau and dimsums. As I felt rather hungry, I decided to go ahead and order the fan choy which was basically charsiew, a portion of a boiled egg with rice. The char siew portion given was quite a lot and it is really tasty as it was sweet and savoury. The best part is that the char siew has a good mixture of fats and lean meat, making it really nice to chew on. The rice is also not too oily and not too overly salty hence I really enjoyed it. For the price and taste, this is definitely worth ordering! continue reading

This place can be hard to find as it is not a shop as such but it's a little space in a little corner in a coffee shop and it's not open all the time. They have another branch at Old Airport Rd food centre which is bigger and more prominent with never ending queues. The one at Rochor Centre sells pretty much the same stuff as at Old Airport Rd. All their buns are steamed buns. They also sell some dim sum stuff like har gao, siew mai, glutinuous rice, etc... And they have the ever popular pink peach-shaped lotus buns. The have about 6-8 varieties of steamed buns, from custard (which has corn to fill it up), coffee (super sweet sometimes), tau sar (not red bean as such - it's more black and grainy and doesn't have a red bean taste), lotus (super sweet at times), 3-in-1 (tau sar, lotus and egg yolk in 1 bun), meat buns, vegetable buns, char siew buns, etc...Personally, I prefer the sweet buns as their vege and char siew buns fail in comparison to D'Bun's buns. The buns here are very small and you can finish them in one gulp - just like D'Bun. But the pastry here is abit sfter and more soggy while compared to D'Bun which is firmer and holds very well. The good thing is that the paper here doesn't stick to the buns while at D'Bun, the paper sticks to the buns.Recommended are the sweet buns from Rong Yi.The quality of the fillings is inconsistent as some days the fillings are sweeter than others. And having corn in the custard buns is a bit weird but still very tasty. It's not cheap because each bun is SO SMALL, but it's alright if you just want a quick bun fix. continue reading
