Our family ordered the house special Steamed San Yu and Samsui Ginger Chicken. The ordered dishes took a while to came to our table, maybe the kitchen was over-wheling with customers' order.

The Steamed San Yu though looked simple was good. The fish slices were fresh, smooth and tender. The sauce was just premium soya sauce and shallot oil, it was light and good on the fish slices.

The Samsui Ginger Chicken came in chilled and deboned. The chicken skin was silky smooth and the meat was tender. This dish came with ginger sauce and lettuce. Although I found it strange to wrap the chicken meat with lettuce and eat with rice. I would prefer to eat separately with rice.

Overall the food was good here, though a family of four would have to spend at least $50.

First of all i must say i missed out taking photo of the samsui chicken, my bad. Came by with my family, 4 of us, ordered 1 normal set of chicken, Hometown Fried Fish Belly and potato leaves. The fish belly taste just like fish meat with a bit of skin as well. Its probably fried beforehand then stir fry and thicken with sweet sauce. Its a perfect companion for plain rice. We chose the ah gong fan shu ye which is the spicy version and it was delightful as well, the potato leaves were the young skinny stalk type, though its clumped together, its really nice tasting. My total bill works out to be $63.44 for an early dinner at 430pm. This includes 4 bottomless chrysanthemum servings. The place is pretty empty at this time.

Guess this is my 2nd time having dinner at Soup Restaurant and this time round, their food have left me wanting to come back for more.

In their menu, they indicate a logo for those dishes that are 'Most Popular Chinatown Heritage Dishes' and I remember there are 2 out of 4 dishes that I ordered have that, which is Sweet and Sour Pork w Pineapple and San Yu Fish Slices Fried w Ginger & Spring Onion.

Sweet and Sour Pork w Pineapple

There is no 'Wow' factor because it tastes just as nice as anywhere else. It tastes crispy and the pork meat absorbs the sauce well thus it strikes a balance in between. But a little pricey.

San Yu Fish Slices Fried w Ginger & Spring Onion - Recommended

The fish is fresh and tender. The overall taste is not too strong. Must try.

Fried French Bean w Minced Pork - Recommended

Although it is quite common to many, but this is one of those dishes that you must go along with rice. The beans are tasty and crunchy, along with the fair amount of minced pork over it, the overall taste is good. And is not very salty. You can just go one mouthful after another.

Steamed Hand Chopped Minced Pork w Salted Egg - Recommended

This dish has the Mummy's feel. My mum used to cook that at home but without salted egg. This dish has strike a balance on the saltiness level, probably because they added salted egg to it. A slice of meat with small amount of salted egg on top just makes you wanna have more rice to go along. Tasty.

Reunion Glutinous Rice Balls

I should have try their other desserts instead. This is too pricey for only 2 miserable riceballs. Apart on that, the sesame fillings within is good and the sweet soup is nice. A very strong ginger taste. But I would rather pay a little more for better desserts than this.

So my overall experience is good, especially their food and service. Drinks are refilled promptly. Chrysanthemum tea is a good choice.

Steamed Hand chopped Minced Pork with Salted Fish is very soft and comes with chestnut in between the bites. A small slice of salted fish was placed on top of the meat indicating that salted fish was one of the ingredients.

Samsui Ginger Chicken is what soup restaurant famous for and attracting the returning crowd. Wrapped the chicken in the lettuce given, dipped in the ginger sauce as you enjoy the fragrance and tenderness of the chicken. These lettuce had added some crunchiess to the bite of the chicken. Note that the lettuce is refillable.

Service
They seems to have missed out us perhaps it was that we are enclosed at one of the corner.
Our drinks are not filled up promptly despite its refillable. As I was asking for table of 7, they do allow us to enter the restaurant even though my family members have not turned up yet.

Ambience
The rustic ambience which reminds you of dinning in the 60s somehow. Love the atmosphere especially when we have a big table of our room at somewhere private in a corner.

Price
Price is still within the okay range and matchable to a Chinese restaurant pricing.

Recommendations / Tips
The queues are rather long, therefore if you are dining in big group, do be there early to queue up.
