This café may look really simple on its decoration, but is comfortable and cooling. Service here were warm and friendly as well. My favourite here are always their Mocha with love and also the Eggs Benedict. Eggs Benedict has quite a generous portion of sliced onions and melted cheese on it which make it very appetitizing. The Egg is smooth and not over cook, great job by the chef. Mocha is very fragrant and with generous amount of cocoa powder in in which make it really thick and tasty. F

Bestie M was in town on Monday, and wanted to try Symmetry’s brunch which she has read so much about. I was tasked to make reservations and find out how to get there. Located at Jalan Kubor, Symmetry is quite easy to get to via public transport as its one bus-stop away from Bugis MRT station.

I received an automated phone call 1 hour prior to my reservation. Very organized indeed! On arrival, I realized why… the place is very small, seats are limited and it was packed, even though it was a weekday.

Café by day, restaurant bar at night, Symmetry’s offerings are inspired by both Australian casual dining culture and French cuisine. This indie joint has quirky décor as you can see from their Gothic Christmas display…

Inside, it’s cozy and relaxed, with quaint ornaments scattered around. Service was friendly, but the coffee didn’t arrive until the end of the meal because the staff forgot all about it.

Monday’s lunch menu is a simple one-pager, consisting of starters/snacks, mains and a dessert. We were glad there some egg dishes available as they were what we came for.

Beverage list is extensive though, consisting of several pages. M ordered a Latte ($5.50) which was good, but could have been better with more foam.

Piping hot Baby Squid with Black Pepper Aioli ($15) was irresistible. The crispy, light batter was well-seasoned, while the squid was springy. Do eat it while it’s hot because once it cools down, the batter loses it crispiness and becomes less appetizing. Squid ink was added to the black pepper aioli, which explains the color.

Truffle Parmesan Fries with White Truffle Oil Drizzle ($13). These fragrant shoestring fries are so tasty that you can eat them independently. Comes with mayonnaise if you like to enjoy your fries with dips.

Smoked Salmon Cabonara Spaghetti ($18) had a generous portion of homemade smoked salmon. A single poached egg completed the dish. Look at the egg, so round and silky, plus it was very wobbly before W decided to “burst” it. However, the smoked salmon was wayyyy too salty while the cabonara sauce was too bland. It could have been better if the flavors were balanced out a bit more evenly. Sadly, the pasta was overcooked which made us frown even more.

Fortunately, my Portobello and Cheese ($17) was enjoyable. A layer of cheese blankets a single poached egg, cushioned by a huge Portobello mushroom, followed by toast. Loved how the cheese and poached eggs complemented the aromatic, earthy Portobello mushrooms. Noticed I wrote eggS and mushroomS? Yes, you get 2 of these! It’s not very clear in my picture, but the other one is beneath the mesclun leaves.

M was disappointed with her Eggs and Bacon ($15) which the menu described as Truffle scrambled eggs, maple glazed bacon and toast. All of us struggled to detect truffle flavor in the eggs and sad to say it was non-existent. Bacon had excessive amounts of fat too

I was happy with the meal and wanted to stay for desserts. But M and W were so upset by their poorly executed mains, we adjourn to Lady M for desserts.

What surprises me is that they have catered a queue system for walk-in customers to manage the turnover. All we need to do is to key in the number of pax that will be dinning in , the preferred seating area and also our contact details. Customer will receive a message notification through the phone number from the café with our queue number and waiting time. I felt that there do have a systematic way to deal with customers flow and it is pretty good for me.

We were seated at the bar counter and menus and a glass of water were served immediately. The service staffs greeted us with a smile when we stepped into the café which please me and Jina. We started off by browsing the menu to decide on choice of our brunch.

My friend ordered Big Breakfast @S$24.00 which served with 2 eggs of your choice, maple glazed bacon, chicken cheese sausage, hash potato, mushroom, tomato, jam & toast. It is quite a spread with so many items and definitely a filling one.

As for me, I decided to try Egg Benedicts @S$20.00 which is strongly recommended by the reviews. The eggs were fine except that egg white was too runny. Bacon was nicely done with the crispy edges. The creaminess of the eggs in sauce was just nice for my tastebud. The dish comes with a crispy piece of hash potato and a portion of salad which makes the complete set. If were to compare, I would still prefer the poached eggs from Hatched.

I ordered a pot of Special Breakfast tea @S$6.50 to pair with my hearty brunch. It was a blessing to enjoy a cup of tea sitting at the bar counter enjoying looking at the staffs busy preparing the orders.Truly a relaxing brunch to start off the weekend.

The staffs were friendly and attentive to customers despite full house. I think they did a great job on the serving part. Total bill was S$59.40 inclusive of 10% service charge and 7% GST charges. Definitely will plan for another visit during night time as they served dinner menu too.

Most restaurants in Singapore only serve Eggs Benedict, hence when I saw that when they had Eggs Florentine (spinach in place of ham), I ordered them immediately. The eggs were done PERFECTLY, runny and full of yolky goodness
And the spinach was really nice too - soft and creamy
This is honestly the best eggs florentine/benedict I've had in Singapore. With the added hashbrown, this dish really filled me up hence I thought it was pretty value for money

I'll DEFINITELY return!

I ordered a flat white ($5.50) which is a great coffee drink that isn't overly strong or bitter but has nice aromatic notes that makes every sip so enjoyable. I also ordered a banana walnut cake to go with my coffe ($6). They do not have a display for the cakes they serve and it seems their cake offering is not constant and not reflected on the menu, so do ask the staff what they are offering for the day. Though the cake came in a dubious colour. I found I thoroughly enjoyed the moist and slightly dense texture coupled with a generous sprinkling of nuts.

This cost place is a really nice place to read a book, catch up with friends or share a meal. Would definitely come back to sample more cakes and coffee!

Forgot the name of this dish too
Beef flank if I am not wrong and it came all tender juicy and bursting with flavour!

Symmetry is a place which I would recommend as a a try it at least once kind of place The truffle spaghetti and beef flank is what I recommend you to come back for, cause those are 2 dishes that popped up in my head when you mention “Symmetry”

Prices are pretty oddly priced for this place. I mean look at my Smoked Salmon Main. 23 Bucks for that? The ambience pretty much makes up for it though.

Finding parking for this location can be quite a chore, I would instead recommend you to walk over from Bugis which will take you 10 minutes

I really like the decorations in the shop and it made me feel like I was transported back to a cafe in Melbourne. I love the cafe culture in Melbourne and in New Zealand!

Potato Fries (With Truffle Oil) $15. Well, I would say this can match up to the truffle fries at P.S cafe in terms of the portion. Really huge but we still managed to finish it. Deep deep love for anything & everything that has truffle in it [: The truffle taste sort of died out towards the end though but it was good enough for us!

Truffle Eggs & Mushroom. We came with our heart and mind prepared for some hearty brunch so we decided to order a classic breakfast meal! The portion was good & I loved the mushrooms so much. There's a mixture of different mushrooms but my favourite got to be the oysters mushroom. Really tasty! The scrambled eggs was pretty normal though. Oh yes, the berries flavoured butter is something that I have not tried before and it went so well with the bread. If only I could have more of that for my bread!

They have free wifi as well so I managed to get some work done there! Love cafes that have free wifi!

Flat White. The coffee is definitely up to the standards. Do you know that they brew their coffee with a $30,000 American Slayer Espresso Machine?

Overall, I would say that Symmetry serves quite decent food. The price may not be the most affordable though! I would definitely head down to try the Brunch Menu next time round. Really wanted to try some of their items on the menu!

With its distressed bricked walls and rustic-like vibe, the space spells indie, contemporary and is just different from the rest, without trying too hard. Though the concept behind this place was the brainchild of the same people who founded CM-PB in Dempsey and The Coastal Settlement, Symmetry holds its own with character, attitude and stands by its mantra of being a 'humane' restaurant by serving up organic eggs and grass-fed beef.

We dropped by on a Saturday afternoon to try their weekend brunch menu (Symmetry also offers a separate menu for both lunch and dinners on weekdays) and fell in love with the place just walking in... Coupled with the fact that it was raining that day as well and having window seats to watch the raindrops beat against the glass as we ate made the whole setting for us quite complete.

Prawn Popcorn $14

Not to be mistaken for popcorn chicken, this starter was unlike its greasy and oily distant cousin. The fresh succulent prawns inside had a nice bouncy and natural sweet bite, while the thin layer of light batter gave the exterior that perfect crunch. Served with wasabi seaweed remoulade that was positively addictive and went well with almost everything we had dipped it with, this was a great introduction to the next few dishes to come.

Flan $23

A cute twist to the usual pastry shortcrust flan that we usually see in desserts, this was instead a very unique and interesting savory item of sauteed mushrooms soaked in a glorious mixture of onions, cream and pommery mustard, hinting of a Carbonara-like creaminess to it. Break the poached egg and stir in the runny yolk for added textures. The two chunks of Pork cheek confit had great marinate and flavour while the generous topping of salad greens on top was a nice simple contrast and balance to the saltiness contributed by the cream sauce and pork cheeks. And the best part? Eating the flan after it had soaked up all that sauce and softened to almost a chewy soggy consistency that was surprisingly the highlight.

Big Breakfast $24

Symmetry does the Big Breakfast effortlessly and satisfyingly. A plate of everything such as scrambled eggs, maple glazed bacon, chicken cheese sausage, hashbrown, mushroom, jam & toast is more than enough to make your tummy happy and especially so, when all the individual components were well executed. I especially loved those candied bacon strips that tasted like bak kwa and the cheese sausage that got a little too oozy when bit into.

In all honesty, with such a charming and quirky interior, quality food with a touch of French influence and extremely affable staff that deserve a best service award, it is easy to see why people are willing to travel to this little lane for not just a meal, but to simply while the perfect afternoon away. The place also fills up quickly so reservations are definitely recommended! I cannot wait to return on a weekday for their burgers and pastas which I hear, are pretty darn awesome.

I decided that I liked Symmetry when i first set sight on the cafe but by the time i left, i decided that i was in love with it. You know that feeling when you met someone for the first time but felt comfortable talking about everything and anything like you've known each other all your life? That was Symmetry for me. It knows me inside out.

Café by day, restaurant bar by night, Symmetry is a cosy and laid back spot in the Bugis area, situated within Jalan Kubor. The decor, the vibe and the music were all too familiar to me. We have the same great taste in music for the songs they played were all on my favorite playlist. ;)

The lunch menu isn't as extensive as the brunch one but the selection is still wide. I had to have my eggs regardless so it was the Poached Eggs for me. The waiter recommended this over the Croque Madame and i must say that i was very pleased with this.

These were runny as though they were more soft boiled than poached. The creamed potato mash went nicely with the sunshine yolk. The spicy chorizo and caramelized shallots were amazing with the sweet and smoky flavors. Bacon was honey glazed but still maintained the saltiness. Oh and the blueberry butter cream was a nice touch to the entire dish. I really loved how the different flavors came together.

The coffee tasted good but the foam wasn't made well. As i was trying to get a good shot of the latte art, i noticed that my foam started to sink and bubbles started popping. Hmm... They took quite a while to get our coffee and it was only served after our mains have arrived. Something needs to be done about that.

I will probably be back to try the other items on the brunch menu. They look too good to be passed over. See you guys there sometime!

We finally found a brunch place that's a worthy contender to Wild Honey! To be honest, it's not because the eggs here are of Wild Honey's impossibly high standards, but really, because the appetizers here are just awesome. Of course, it helps that the eggs are not far off Wild Honey's mark.

Symmetry is a new-ish cafe specializing in modern French cuisine, but on weekends, serves up a separate brunch menu as well. I liked it the second I walked in. It's charming and homey and whimsical at the same time, a perfect fit to the indie bohemian vibe of its Kampong Glam/Arab Street locale. In line with its Tim Burton-esqe digs, the ambience here is kept casual and relaxed.

Beware though, Symmetry may be a little difficult to find, since it's tucked away in an obscure tip of Jalan Kubor. The nondescript facade doesn't quite assist, but the 2 life-sized 'Nightmare Before Christmas' dolls sitting on stools in front should be large enough landmarkers. By the way, Jln Kubor is the one-way street flanked by Victoria Street and North Bridge Road (on the end that's closer to the Kampong Glam area).

Due to the extremely limited seating, reservations are strongly encouraged, and an absolute must if you're dining with a big group. Also, parking is a nightmare, so slot your car in anywhere and turn on the Summons Auntie app.

We had:

1) Truffle Potato Fries ($14): MUST-TRY. Black truffle salt is evenly sprinkled onto thick-ish chips (so the bottom fries get to play truffle dressup as well) and highlighted with fine wisps of sharp cheddar. This was both sinful yet heavenly at the same time.

2) Wild Mushroom Duxelle Beignet ($15) with a light smear of parsley coulis is a cleverly disguised and oh-so-delicious snack as well. What was originally thought to be battered and fried whole white button mushrooms turned out to be a variety of oyster, button and portobello mushrooms diced and rolled into a ball, battered, then fried. It was dripping with aromatic earthy juices

3) Eggs Mushroom ($21) with scrambled eggs separately served alongside sauteed wild mushrooms and drizzled with fragrant truffle oil is hearty and rustic. The eggs could be a tad fluffier but the dish was an overall winner. The generous portions here ensure no one goes away hungry. The fruity butter, with its citrusy elements, slides on the thick white bread toast like a dream

For the starters, we had the Prawn Popcorn and the Wild Mushroom Duxelle Beignet. I liked that both were crisp and light, and the ingredients were fresh, but I personally prefer the former as I'm not a fan of mushrooms. But my brunch companions loveeeee the latter and said it was excellent.

The Eggs Benedict here differs slightly from the norm. It consists of some caramelized onions and the hollandaise sauce wasn't thick enough. The poached eggs tasted more like soft-boiled eggs as the egg white was too runny. I felt that I can do a better job for the poached eggs. There's nothing to complain about the hash potato but overall, this dish is not worth the $20.

My dining companion ordered the Arrabiata and she said it was good. I didn't try it but I got to trust her on that.

On the whole, I love this hole-in-the-wall place but it's a bit too cramped for comfort. Food is good but prices are slightly on the high side. It's worth a try but probably not a place I'll frequent.

I like the concept and design of Symmetry and I think it's a success of their interior design. You feel very homely and comfortable the moment you stepped in to the restaurant. The servers are attentive which make our dining experience a even more pleasant one. Ordered the egg benedict for myself and my friend ordered the big breakfast for herself. The portion of her big breakfast is really huge - with sausages, scrambled eggs, saute mushroom and tomatoes etc. The taste is really good and all you need to is to season the dish abit with salt and pepper. For my eggs benedict, I think the chef did a really good job as my egg yolk are runny yet not "over" runny and it tasted good too. The bacon remains it crisp and I really enjoy this dish very much.
I would recommend this place to my friends and wish to visit it again soon for their other breakfast menu!

Heard alot of ravings for their breakfast sets, but perharps only their breakfast is good. Went during dinner time. Was very disappointed.

Luckily, their berry smoothie is a safe choice, berry intensive.

It was a very expensive dinner. There were 2 other couples in the restaurant too, but they were seen sharing food. Its more suitable for couples for a romantic dinner due to the dim lights instead of a group gathering. But due to the overwhelming raves of their breakfast, i would probably drop by again.
