I usually go for noodles first and when i spotted this lor mee stall, i went straight for it. This Lor Mee had thick dark gravy, however there was not much braised meat soup taste.

There were ngor hiam, fish cake and braised pork meat.

The ngor hiam was traditional ones, not those crispy ones. It tasted good with some mince meat in it.

The braised pork meat was slightly fatty type and it was braised well. The braised meat tasted soft and tender and almost melted in your mouth.

The Hokkien-inspired noodle dish is served in a thick dark gravy, made of corn starch, spices, eggs and usually comes with various ingredients such as ngoh hiang, fish cake, meat dumplings and braised egg. It is best eaten with the usual condiments - garlic, chinese parsley and chilli, (vinegar too, but not for me), as it enhances it's taste. Although traditionally served with fried fish toppings, different adaptations and even methods of cooking have since been adopted by the many stalls, providing diners a wider variety of choices and selections of the original dish.

If you are looking for a good bowl of Lor Mee (or rather, any other local cuisine) in Singapore, do look no further than the highly acclaimed Tiong Bahru Market and Food Centre. After recent renovations, the hawker centre now serves tasty and hygenic food - in a much cleaner, spacious and satisfactory environment. It also features two of the best stalls in town if you want to have a bite of that starchy goodness.

More often than not, following your kiasu instincts and lining up for the longest queue is actually the best method in discovering great food. Well.. That is if you do not mind waiting up to 30 minutes during lunch hours, just to slurp down a bowl of noodles from Tiong Bahru Lor Mee. It is not difficult to understand why the long queue when you get your hands on their Lor Mee, the noodles are of the right texture, without being overwhelming chewy, and the braised gravy - the soul of the dish, is thick, smooth and of the right consistency.

It is served with the usual fried wanton, fishcakes, braised egg, ngoh hiang and crunchy beansprouts. Their Lor Mee comes in regular and large sizes at S$2.50 and S$3.00 respectively.

This was my first time trying out Tiong Bahru Lor mee after hearing rave reviews about it from all my friends. Indeed the lor mee was fantastic and the sauce was extremely flavorful and delicious! Generous ingredients and an affordable price of $2.50 -$3 dollars, this is sure to quickly become my go-to place for a lor mee fix! Its convenient location at Tiong Bahru helps too!

I was recommended to eat at this stall when I am at the market. Since I was there might as well try it. Where there are good food there will always be a queue. I had to wait for 15 minutes before my turn to order. My first impression was the sauce is thick, gooey and served with ngor hiang, braised meat, fishcake and fried wanton. One thing about this stall they are very generous with the raw cut garlic. I like it with lots of garlic and sambal chilli.

Brought a bowl of lor mee from this famous stall at the tiong bahru market. Long queue can be seen during breakfast hours and be prepared to queue. This bowl of lor mee includes ingredients like the meat dumplings, fishcake and the deep fried fish. Ingredients used are fresh and sufficently cooked. As for the gravy, it has sufficient thickness, well seasoned and goes well with the ingredients and the noodles. The noodles is well cooked and has a soft texture. Price is reasonable at $2.50 per bow

This is one of the Lor Mee Stalls in this food centre. It was featured in a TV programme recently and that explained a bit on the long queue when i was there. I waited for 20 minutes before i got to order. I wanted the yellow noodle for $3. The braised sauce was thick and gooey. It served with braised egg, ngor hiang, braised meat, fishcake, fried wanton etc. I added in the red cut chillies and chinese parsley to enhance the taste. It tasted quite good but not the best that i tried.

This stall is recently featured in the TV programme. They offer only Lor Mee at $2.50 and $3.00, nothing else. They served a very typical bowl of Lor Mee with ingredients like fish cake, ngor hiang, braised egg, braised meat etc with condiments like minced garlic, chilli paste, red cut chillies, vinegar available for self-service.

They do not served fried shark fish nuggets like their competitor in the same food centre.

There was a queue of 6 people during the busy lunch hour. I decided to join in and waited for about 10 minutes to order.

Their sauce (lor) was thick, smooth and not lumpy and when mixed it well with the yellow noodle together with extra amount of minced garlic and chill paste added, an above average bowl of Lor Mee awaits. I have tried many others including the original Lor Mee from the old Tiong Bahru Food Centre that relocated to Bukit Batok and Bukit Purmei hence this particular bowl of Lor Mee failed to impress me.

This can be a good alternative if the other Lor Mee stall in the same food centre happened to be closed.

we working around tiong bahru and went to taste their popular lor mee. i ordered one bowl, the soup like all other lor mee, was quite thick and black. it tasted very tasty as well. topped with vinegar, it was indeed heavenly. the ingredients in the lor mee taste really good too, but most importantly, the noodle is not the kind that sticks to your teeth. i give it two thumbs up!

People are willing to queue, most of the time for some time, for lor mee from this stall. This is how yum it is. The sauce is thick and flavourful. Together with the chopped garlic and chili, you get a delicious bowl of lor mee! The amount and variety of ingredients given is generous, including braised pork meat, a fried wanton, a few pieces of shark meat. The braised meat was very tasty. I always order lor mee when I am at tiong bahru food centre. IT'S SLURPING GOOD!

So when they came back with my tapao, and I was surprised that they separated the gravy and noodle. The noodle portion was really teeny, and the shark meat ( which I guess since I've never eaten shark meat except fin, it tastes the same and/or it's just plain other fish patty?) is battered fried. But don't get confused with the rest of the fried stuff - only one is real meat - the rest are just lumps of fried batter! Cheater!
What you'd expect from $3 though. Hee hee!

I wasn't there myself in the stall, but this is my first lor mee, and I'm quite impressed with the taste. The gravy looks clean and clear, with lots of eggs/meat 'fibers' in the gravy (which they give A LOT compared to noodle portion, separately), and the taste was JUST NICE. It was a warm up for my tongue, to be a teeny bit spicy but it's just there. Just nice. THe taste wasn't overempowering nor making me sick because it's a thick dollop of sauce and noodle; well so far I'm impressed and I'll be looking forward for more lor mee!

Long long Q...
