After dinner at one of the restaurants along Jalan Riang, Wimbly Lu is the must go place for deserts. I really loved the waffles with ice cream. I have always wanted to visit Wimbly Lu cafe, which is located at a pretty ulu street around Serangoon area. Unfortunately, it started to rain when I met my friend but we both decided to go ahead with the plan of walking to the place and took about 15 minutes! The cafe was fully packed when we arrived and we waited for about 20 minutes before getting a seat. The arrival of our desserts! My friend had the classic hot chocolate while I had the mayan hot chocolate. My friend didn't like her drink as she felt that the chocolate was too overpowering. As for me, mayan hot chocolate has some spices added in and a cinnamon stick is used to stir the drink. I like it initially but as it started to become chill, it didn't match the taste.

You can't leave Wimbly Lu without trying their waffles! Everyone seems to be raving about their waffles and so we ordered one with salted caramel ice-cream. Their waffles are made to be the crispy type which I prefer over the fuffy ones! The ice-cream however was disappointing as the scoop is relatively small compared to the waffles and I couldn't taste much of the caramel in it.

I wanted to try their famed rootbeer cake while my friend wanted the chocolate nutella tart. I guess the taste of rootbeer is rather subjective as my friend didn't like it at all while I love it! I heard a few mixed responses from my other friends and it's either you like it or not. The chocolate nutella tart is not bad though I can't really taste the nutella. I felt that the tart would taste much better if the base is a little thicker.

The rain got heavier when we wanted to leave. Anyway, though the place is quite small and cramp, I really love the decor of this cafe. I can just imagine an even nicer ambience at night with the lights hanging all over the place!

There were the highly raved Root Beer Cake, which I feel it's something interesting but tasted average. Must try dishes are waffles, molten chocolate cake and sticky date pudding w caramel. I personally like all their chocolate cakes and it nv fails to satisfy a sweet tooth like myself. One of my favorite place I would go for a dessert fix!

Also have waffle with a scoop of brownie ice cream and chocolate sauce by the side. It costs $8.50 a serving. The waffle is crisp on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside.

Overall there is still hits and misses, but I will be back again as it just walking distance from Grandmama's place.

Firstly, this place is kinda inconvenient to get to without a car! A 5-7 minute walk from either serangoon mrt station or lorong chuan!

I've always wanted to come here because I've heard the rave reviews by many of my friends, so I was really excited to finally try the food here! The decor of the place is really nice and cosy, a good place to chill out over some dessert and catch up with friends.

I ordered a root beer cake, lemon meringue pie (only available on weekends), and a chocolate molten lava cake! The root beer cake has a unique taste, served together with a vanilla bean ice cream, well... I expected more than what it tasted, it was just so-so for me, because it's basically just a cake that tastes like root beer!

The lemon meringue pie was ok for me as well, although all my friends loved it! I think it tasted zesty and nice but there's just something off about it, that I can't really put a finger to!

The molten cake was a tad disappointing with the size, but the texture and taste made up for it! Crisp chocolate skin on the outside, which crackles when you dip your fork in, and the hot chocolate oozing out after which was an amazing feeling and sight. It tasted as good as it looks too!

I've heard many good reviews about its waffles, but didn't have the tummy to try it, so I'll be back to try them out next time!

There are other cakes on display which I am looking forward to try again and I am sure you would like to try too.

Prices are from $5 onwards with most desserts in the $6-8 range.
Despite the difficult location, it is definitely a place I will go back to, with chocoholic lovers!

Great for dark chocolate lovers, definitely not those typical cafes that end up serving Milo that states "Hot Chocolate" on the menu. Not a fan though, since I don't really like chocolatey stuff that much, except for white chocolate.

Waffle, with a scoop of salted caramel ice-cream, drizzled with toffee sauce. ($8.50)
I thought that the waffle was great, but perhaps I had really high expectations of it since most reviews were raving about it. The toffee sauce could've been thicker, and I'd prefer if the waffle has a stronger buttery taste. After trying so many waffles, I still think Shokudo (Bugis) has one of the nicest waffles. The ice-cream was great, but the scoop was a tad too small, would have been better if they were more generous with the amount of ice-cream he gave.

Wimbly Lu is the place to go if you’re looking for a place to chill and hang out with your group of friends over dessert. We strongly suggest that you best go during off-peak hours because the crowd might get a little too overwhelming at times! The desserts were all relatively decently priced and reasonably tasting. If I’m ever going back, it’s to see if I can have a chance at those sofa chairs!Visit http://ieatandeat.com/wimbly-lu-chocolates-cafe/ for the full review!

I had the root beer cake, with vanilla ice cream. It is one of their signature dessert, which looks really pretty being served in a martini glass but not all that nice when you eat it. I have no idea where or how it gets the name, cause i am not able to taste the root beer in it. It was so different from what i have seen on reviews on blog!

I also had a cup of latte. I will always order hot drinks these days, just for the sake of those cute cafe art. To my disappointment, they do not do it at this cafe.

Perhaps I have not tried what truly makes this cafe popular/amazing, but from what i have tried, i do not think i will be visiting the cafe again.

The place was not hard to find with the GPS and once we spotted the iconic red coloured Beetle parked outside the shophouse, we knew we were at the right place. The layout of the cafe bore a subtle semblance to Open Door Policy. We were greeted by the same dim and romantic setting upon walking in, while the courtyard had similar glass paneled ceilings allowing cheerful sunlight to pass through. Furniture were mismatched on purpose, with different types of chairs and tables pulled together quite easily by that rustic red-bricked wall. And because Valentines' Day had just passed, there was still residue decor of streamers with hearts and ornaments hanging from the ceilings, giving a whimsical touch of fancy.

The menu here at Wimbly Lu, though not extensive, offers a decent variety of desserts such as cakes, truffles, waffles and ice-cream. There is a heavy emphasis on the sweets but savoury items such as Golden Fries, Cottage Pie and Hash browns are also available for a light snack.

For just $8.50, this Waffle with Salted Caramel Ice-Cream and Chocolate Sauce was superb. Light and fluffy with a crispy browned skin, this was faultless and easily one of the best waffles in town. The Salted Caramel ice-cream had a lovely balance of salty and sweet. You could almost feel that distinct flavour of the sea salt flakes on your tongue as well as the stickiness of the caramel all in a single taste. Unfortunately, our additional scoop of Honey and Cinnamon Ice-Cream did not have anything on that Salted Caramel Ice-cream and paled much in comparison.

The Sticky Date Pudding held its own well, as a moist date cake smothered in thick gooey toffee sauce. It was served warm and had the rich, sweet and sticky consistency of a good sticky date pudding. I would have definitely appreciated a scoop of ice-cream alongside though!

I was a little disappointed with the Eton Mess $6 which was just not as tied together and well combined as I had hoped. The cream and mixed berries sat as a separate entity from the meringue pieces instead of coming together as one dessert. I would not order this again.

The Root Beer Cake with Vanilla Ice-Cream $6 however, was a surprising and unique number. Loved how the Vanilla ice-cream really brought out the root beer flavour and had me thinking of the A&W Root Beer Float!

Overall, Wimbly Lu is a quaint little cafe that holds great promise. The settings make for a easy and quiet afternoon of tea and cakes while the affordable price tag beckons a second visit. And I could really do with some of that Salted Caramel ice-cream right now...

Not a huge space but it is a nice place to chill and have a plate of waffle (and maybe chocolates too).
