This was our first stop of our food hunt for today! Met my good friend, xr at Tanjong Pagar MRT & we began walking to this BKT eating house! After walking for about 12 minutes in this blazing hot sun, we finally reached the place! It would be hard to miss this place as it was spilling with people when we reached the place! Even at this time of the day, office workers clad in long sleeve shirts and dresses didn't mind sweating it out with this good BKT!As we were gonna have lots and lots more of other wonderful things later in the day, we decided not to order too much! We went for the spare ribs instead of the pork ribs. Along with those, we had some peanuts, some pig trotters(lean version) and some youtiao! Although the youtiao wasn't freshly fried, it went superbly well with the lor sauce that the "ter kah" was in! THe sauce was super flavourful and sweet at the same time! The peanuts are my personal favourite and everyone should definitely get a plate if they visit this place! The ter kah was also quite tender and not tough! The spare ribs weren't extraordinary and so was the soup. It was refreshing (of course), and peppery, but towards the end, it got quite bitter, i assume due to the peppercorns. Nonetheless it is a good place to go to if you want to have some good bkt! continue reading

Peanuts(花生)+ Preserved Vegetables(梅菜) + Youtiao(油条)Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh(亞華肉骨茶)Although, Bak Kut Teh in Singapore is slightly a bit costly, but after tasting and trying numerous Bak Kut Teh stores in Singapore, this is one of the better ones. The service provided by the place is considerably good as compared to the other Bak Kut Teh stores. For example, the waitress would top up the soup of the Bak Kut Teh automatically, topping up of the soup is free and the best part is the Bak Kut given in each bowl of Bak Kut Teh was fantastic. Even though the soup had a lot of pepper in it, I still managed to empty the soup of the Bak Kut Teh a few times. For a full review, visit http://rachelays.blogspot.sg/2013/07/ya-hua-bak-kut-teh-eating-house.htmlAfter about a decade since my last visit, I finally visited Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh again. Ya Hua BKT was crowned the best in the Bak Kut Teh category at the Singapore Hawker Masters in 2012. The Outram Ya Hua BKT that I had tried pales in comparison to this. We arrived at a late evening and many of their items were sold out already. Even their pork ribs were out of stock and we had to settle for the pork meat (fillet?). The meat was tough but delectable. The soup was a tad too peppery but it was very satisfying. The taste of the soup was just right, not too sweet not salty. Service was also fast and efficient. Overall, it is worth a try. If you are looking for bak kut teh haunts, try this! continue reading

My beloved aunt's recommendation, she brought us to Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh Eating House. It's all about having fleshy pork ribs soaking all the essence of the spicy soup. A happy boy I was, happily stripping off every bit of meat off the bone! Apparently, there's a way to make your soup more spicy or less spicy. If you want it more spicy, simply stir the soup before you drink. If not, just wait for the sediments to sink all the way to the bottom before dunking your spoon into it.Pig's kidney. It's soft and chewy but there's nothing really special about it if you want to know. The kidneys didn't really soak up the essence of the soup that well compared to pork ribs. Nevertheless, it was fresh. My family has very high expectations when it comes to eating pork trotters. The fatty meat to lean meat ratio has to be perfect! We like our trotters to have slightly more lean meat to chew on while a reasonable amount of fatty meat to intensify the taste. For those who are health conscious, well, this bowl of trotters might suit you. There's more lean meat compare to fatty meat. Just like the ribs, the meat have already soaked up all the essence of the soy broth. In my opinion, a must have when you are having Bak Kut Teh. Fresh fried and not stale You Tiao (Deep fried dough fritter). It would seem very weird not to have them. It's amazes how I would watch my fitter whenever intensely as I dip it into the soup. You gotta ensure that your you tiao doesn't get over soak and disintegrate. Not to mention guarding it from potential lazy bums who just wants to grab yours instead! All in all, the dishes were rather satisfying. Apart from the dark soy sauce. I was baffled why their dark soy sauce looks like light soy sauce? My definition of a premium dark soy sauce has a dark reflective tone and it must be thick one...They got the darkish reflection right but the thickness. A premium dark soy sauce in my opinion, will coat the meat with thick sauce and not merely stains it. So when you wanna have a bowl of bak kut teh, simply drop by Isetan Office Building... continue reading

The FoodI ordered bak kut teh with Prime long ribs ($9), you tiao ($1.50), pig trotters ($6.50) and preserved vegetables ($2). The ribs was soft, tender and the meat easliy detached from the bones. The soup stock was Teochew style with clear and peppery taste with strong flavour of pork broth without the over powering taste of the pepper hence very nice and tasty.Lastly for the pig trotters, the portion is very huge with decent amount of meat, fats and skin and was super tender, super soft, yet it did not have the over cooked feel at all.The sauce blend very nicely with the trotters and taste heavenly!!The PriceReasonably priced at $20++ for the whole billOverallI will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this! continue reading
