Located conspicuously besides Starbucks, Hee Kee Desserts is the latest Hongkong dessert opening in Jurong Point (besides Ji De Chi who has relocated) and knowing my weak resistance against Hongkong desserts... I'm almost gravitationally compelled to pop in every single time I walk past. And I finally do!What will I be having? This week, Hee Kee Desserts is promoting mango-themed sweet offerings, which fits perfectly into my tastebuds. This curious looking dessert neatly bound by a strand of pan
I don't usually like glutinous red bean paste, but Hee Kee Desserts's version is very good. Much better than any other I've tried, even including Ah Chew and Honeymoon Desserts. It is sweet, and it is not grainy at all, which is my pet peeve for all the pastes. What's more, the red beans used were really very fresh and there was just the right dosage of coconut milk to go around. The mango-pomelo with glutinous rice balls fell flat on the exciting meter, though it's the safest option out there. The durian puree is extremely strong, rich and fragrant in durian taste, it cannot be anything but well, durian. Not a voluntary fan of durian but this is solid, real stuff through and through... durian fans would love this!
If you think Hee Kee Desserts is one of those run-of-the-mill Hongkong dessert shops, do reconsider because its menu promises a very different, self-concocted range of desserts even though they are using generic ingredients like coconut and mango. I think I'll be going back to try some other desserts, this visit has got me bursting at the seams already.
