Whilst the tea is superb, the food is less so. Although the presentation is nice and portion sizes are generous the taste is not convincing. And actually there is no point having a full plate when the food is not yummy enough to finish it. Also the gravies do not seem to be home made which would be unacceptable for a would-be high end place.
Desserts and cakes are better than the savoury food but nothing to write home about either. The canneles for example are soft and moist throughout which is not authentic and boring texture-wise. If they are made the traditional French way, canneles have a crisp almost burnt caramelised shell and are soft inside.

On the whole, TWG is a place with a nice ambience and serves arguably the best teas in town. Service and food however can be improved on. Considering the rather average taste and rather steep prices, I would save my money and appetite to eat elsewhere and only go for the tea. If you have a sweet tooth, just add a macaroon to go with your tea but beware - they are very sugary indeed.
