BlackBall
BlackBall
2013-08-04
Tried BlackBall from the first time at Bugis +. It is located at one corner and there are seats outside and in the store. I went on a saturday evening and it was packed, full house. We will have to stand and wait for a while before we get seats. It is free sitting, so you will have to look out for people who are finishing their food, and wait beside them. The shop is originated from Taiwan and is said to be the NO 1. Grass jelly dessert there. The menu. You could request from the staff that you would like a copy of the menu. My groups of friends were "blocking the counter" while looking at the menu when the staff passed us a copy of the menu so that we could go back to our seats to take a look, decide before ordering. Their menu have pictures and detailed descriptions of their desserts. They sell alot of desserts which includes bubble tea as well. We ordered their blackball signature to try! You can choose to have it warm, hot, cold or icy. Blackball signature ($4.90 per bowl)We ordered 2 bowls to be shared among the 4 of us. Milk is being mixed together with it. It has a perfect combination of YamQ, golden sweet potato, yam balls, sweet potato balls, red beans, pearls and grass jelly. The grass jelly is really smooth and it will just melt in your mouth, no wonder they are the No 1 grass jelly dessert in taiwan. The grass jelly is awesome! The combination of all those chewy balls are great. It is very similar to our Singapore BOBOCHACHA! The only difference is that it has much more combinations/ingredients than the bobochacha. It is really a MUST TRY! I will definitely go back to try the other desserts and their bubble tea. …Read More

Royal pudding
Paris Baguette
2013-07-31
Finally get to try Paris Baguette and i only knew it today that the shop was actually from KOREA! They are famous for their royal pudding and it comes in alot of flavours. They put bottles of royal pudding at the entrance of their shop and the small little bottles indeed looks very nice. They have the original, mango, durian, strawberry and caramel. They sell different flavours on different day. On the day i went, there were only the original and the mango flavour on sale. Hence, my friends and I bought one flavour each to share. Their cakes really look very pretty in the fridge and we decided to order one to share. Mango and original flavour royal pudding. After trying, i think whats unique is their smooth pudding. It totally melt in your mouth when you eat it. However, i find it too expensive as it cost $4 for the small bottle of pudding(original). It costs $4.50 for those with other flavours. I do admit that the container is cute. This is A TiramisuI will not recommend this. This moment i put it in my mouth, i was choked by the tiramisu powder! The top coating is totally filled with powder and it is really a bad experience. We had already cut it into small pieces before putting it in our mouth but yet most of my friends including me got choked by the overpowering powder. A pretty strawberry cake. Really love the cake as it has many layers and you can really feel it in your mouth. It seems like you are able to feel the chef hearts and soul into making the cake as it is really quite unique with the different layers of taste you feel when eating it. …Read More

bak kut teh
Old Street Bak Kut Teh. You Tiao. Soya Milk
2013-07-31
There is difficulty looking for parking spaces if you drive there. There are very few parking spaces as the shop is located along the shop houses. Good food will not stop us! If you are going by nearest transport, take tai Seng. Their shop has the old and traditional feel and it feels like you are in the past. Their menu has photographs to come with the names of their dishes and everything looks appealing in there. There will be a slip of paper and you will have to tick the dishes that you want, go to the counter and pay first. We ordered: (bottom left, anti clockwise direction in the picture)1. pork rib soup2. Premium Loin Ribs (supposedly the bigger kind of pork rib)3. Pig Kidney soup4. Peanuts5. Pig's stomach soup6. kai lan7. Dry Pig's Tendon (not in picture)I think all the prices all reasonable and we expected it to be much more expensive. Firstly, their pork rib soup is not too peppery and it tasted really good! The pork ribs were not hard. It has the chewy feeling. I will really recommend their dry pig tendon as it is really very unique. It is my first time eating in a spicy, fried in dark soya sauce. What's good is that they give free tea! yes, the traditional chinese tea. There are kettles around which you are able to go and refill to make your tea. You just have to keep pouring the hot water over the tea and let it settle down before you pour it into your small cups:)It is indeed a traditional experience…Read More

Astons
Astons Specialities
2013-07-28
It is my first time visiting the Astons outlet at Scape. It is located at the third level, beside sakae sushi. My colleagues and I visited the outlet at around 2pm and we got seats quite fast. Looking around, we thought that our order would not take long but we waited for about 20 minutes before our food is served. I think the waiting time is too long, looking around and seeing that there wasn't much waiting orders to be served.I ordered the hickory BBQ chicken! i will always order this set as i like their sweet sauce and it really bring out the taste when eaten with the chicken. Every set you ordered comes with 2 choices of sides. I always order this 2 sides and i will recommend it! I will choose the baked potato and pasta salad. Most of their side dishes that are potato, such as mashed potato or potato wedges are all very nice as i have tried it before. However not to have a meal full of potato, i will choose the 2nd side which is not potato. Their baked potato comes with the butter and you can actually request for more butter. The baked potato is actually quite big and it is quite filling. The other side is actually pasta salad and i really love the pasta being quite soft. It is really a satisfying meal, besides the long waiting time.…Read More

Birthday cake
BreadTalk
2013-07-28
Most of my birthday cakes this year are from BreadTalk since we shared the same birthday month. BreadTalk will always have promotions when it is their birthday month which is in July too. This year they are 13th years old and they have a mega huge promotion for their breads and cakes. They have:3 sliced cakes for the price $6.80. It is really very cheap as the original price of their sliced cake is about $3-$4. They only have promotion for this 3 flavours. They are Peanut Butter Overload, Kaya Kebaya and Pineapple gem. You are able to mix the flavours and so i got 3 different flavours to try it out. I really like the Peanut Butter Overload as there is really a strong peanut butter taste. Peanut butter lovers will really love it! I can say that all the 3 flavours are nice and it is very worth for the price that you are paying. They is also $10 off classic cakes and my family got this for me on my birthday. It is a fruit cake and i like it very much. There are alot of strawberries at the top and there are secrets in the cake layers. There are fruits in between the cake layers, which includes small pieces of peaches. I really like it as the cake is not that sweet! I would really recommend bread talk cakes as they are fresh and nice!…Read More

Cheaper lunch in town
Isle Cafe
2013-07-28
Mixed rice. My office is at somerset and if you are looking for cheaper alternatives to eat at town, Isle cafe is the one! It is located inside cuppage plaze. It is actually a mixed rice stall and the auntie always give a big portion of rice that will make your lunch very satisfying and full. It is actually one of the cheaper meal option if you are having your lunch around town area almost every day. They do have fried rice or noodles if you do not feel like eating rice. They have many variety and choices for you to choose from. Mostly, the prices varies and when you order 2 veg and 1 meat, it cost around $3.20. Beware if you order fish! Even if it is just lemon fish or sweet and sour fish, it will cost much more than lemon chicken or sweet and sour pork. If one of you dish has fish, it will cost around $3.80 to $4.20. I supposed that fish is actually much more expensive as compared to chicken/pork. It will be cheaper if you order chicken/pork instead of fish. I think this is the cheapest and worthy meal you can find in town!…Read More

IPPUDO ramen
IPPUDO
2013-07-28
Everyone in your group of friends must be here before you can get seats, or you will not get seats. We were lucky enough to get seats before the queue starts forming outside the shops. When we were looking through the menu, we then realized that the queue started forming within minutes and it was so long. the place looks very high class and it has the feel of some fine dinning. By saying so, the area is actually quite small. However, they fully utilized their tables. They have long tables and yes, you have to share table with other people. There are a few choices for their soup base and the ingredients that you want in your ramen. I ordered the IPPUDO Original tonkotsu. With the addition of the flavoured egg, it cost $3 more. Since i really loved the flavoured eggs, i ordered it but i find it quite expensive. There are other add ons that you can add, such as the cha shu, etc. What is unique is that you are able to choose the texture of your noodles, whether you want it medium or hard. The waiter actually recommended us the hard type but i goes with the medium since i like my ramen softer. The soup base was nice. However, i find the bowl of ramen quite expensive. Even though they have the fine dinning atmosphere, the bowl of ramen is not that worth of the price of $20. …Read More

Duck rice
Soon Kee Lor Duck Rice - Long House
2013-07-28
The best duck rice i have eaten! The shop uncles are all very friendly. We have been there just a few times and the uncle actually recognized us. When my mother went to order, my mum did not have to say anything and the uncle just asked "the usual?" in chinese. Yes, the uncle actually remembered what my family order. We always order the mixture which include the duck, and the duck organs and egg. My family loved to sit at the seats right infront of their stall and we always see the uncle smiling while chopping the duck. He looks very happy. Their chilli is the best as it has a mixture of sweet and spicy. My brother who loves the chilli will use and eat up to 4 mini plates of chilli. Their chilli has the perfect combination when you eat together with the duck and rice. Their rice is not the normal plain rice. It is so nice that you could just eat the rice alone with the duck sauce and chilli. I will always eat up to 2 bowl of rice, one is really not enough! Do add rice or you will regret! It is not salty and has a good aroma. Their soup has some chinese herbs in it and is free. There is cabbage in it too and you can ask the uncle for refill. This is the super big portion of the mixture of duck, duck organs and eggs for 5 people. …Read More

love shaped carrot cake
Hawker Delights - Long House
2013-07-27
It is the first time i saw a heart shaped carrot cake. It came with one whole piece and it made me wondered how the stall uncle actually cooked and made it. The shape is indeed very unique. The uncle is very friendly and he joked around too. He actually asked my friend whether she wanted the chilli sauce to be put on the left or the right side of the plate. The uncle is really very funny, joking around with my friend. The display was really nice and it really brighten up our day. The carrot cake is quite normal and it tasted quite blend. I feel that more seasonings should be put and chye poh should be included as i will prefer it more salty.…Read More

Prawn noodles
Ah Hui Big Prawn Noodle - Long House
2013-07-27
This stall is famous for their prawn noodles. They have a few different combinations on their menu. There is the normal prawn noodles, pork rib prawn noodles, prawn and pork rib prawn noodles and also their famous BIG PRAWN NOODLES! i didnt try their big prawn noodles as when i saw the customer who was sitting right next to me, the normal prawn noodles already have such a big prawn, i cant imagine how big the Big prawns from the big prawn noodles will be. The big prawn noodles actually cost $2 more than the normal one.The picture above is the normal prawn noodles which cost $5. Yeah, the prawns are not the normal sizes one. They are the medium sized prawns and they are very generous with their prawns. They gave around 6 to 7 half sided prawns, much more than what the other prawn noodles stall will have given. I ordered the noodles and been hoon prawn noodle soup. Their bee hoon are the thicker noodles instead of the fine noodle. What is important is the prawn noodle soup base! Yes, it tasted sweet and think it had been boiled for a very long time. …Read More

SUSHI
Itacho Sushi
2013-07-27
Prepared to queue and wait when you visit Itacho sushi. I always saw a long queue when i passed by the shop. Today, I finally decided to try it. My friend and I queued and waited for about half and hour before we got seats. The queue was very long and i think it was because we went on a friday evening. However, it was worth the wait. The food was awesome. We get to sit at the counter seats and i find it very interesting. We were able to see the chef making the sushi from where we were seated. I think our seats were very good, most of the sushi that was waiting to be served will be placed on the small table beside us and i am able to look and see what is the most popular and unique dish that other customers ordered. There was this sushi that both of us find it interesting and decided to try it but we were not able to find it in the menu. When a staff walked past us, i pointed that dish and asked what it is. The staff was very friendly and told us the name of the dish. The best part of getting the counter seats is a chance to look at all the sushi waiting to be served. Another good thing is that your food will be served by the chef! You will not have to wait. Once the chef had prepared your sushi, he will personally served it to you since you are seated just right in front of him:) It was really amazing as we were able to see some of the sushi making process too!The chef and all the pretty sushi waiting to be served! We ordered the hot green tea and it was refillable. Their green tea was very unique as it had the wheat taste in it too, very sweet smelling and rich! There were alot of promotional dishes and this green tea cold soba with scallop is on offer. It is quite unique as their noodles are made of green tea. They are very generous with their scallops too.Would want to recommend this 2 sushi which i like it alot. The smoked duck sushi and also the grilled salmon sushi. The salmon sushi is half grilled and there is wasabi in between the salmon and the rice. …Read More

Birthday Meal
Cedele Bakery Kitchen
2013-07-27
Heard alot of good reviews about Cedele and decided to have a try. We called to book beforehand but realized that there isnt a need to book as they are alot of seats available when we reach. My friends and I went on a monday evening and we have difficulties finding the place at raffles city shopping centre. It is actually located at one corner and you will have to turn into one of the aisle towards Fairmont hotel. I decided to try their pasta and ordered the mushroom and bacon pasta. It is something like carbonara but the sauce is quite unique. However, the linguine is quite hard, not fully cooked. i would prefer the linguine to be softer. Another friend of mine ordered another type of pasta and her spaghetti was quite hard too. I find that they should cook the pasta longer so that it will be softer. Their sauce actually saved the whole pasta dish. The sauce is thick and unique. My friend ordered their sandwich and she was given choices for her bread. she ordered the bread with walnut and it tasted very nice. She ordered the chicken peperonata burger and it was awesome! carrot walnut cake.It is the best seller! It is very unique as there are many walnuts at the side. They are very generous with the walnuts! The cake has 4 layer. 2 layer of the carrot cake and 2 layer of the cream cheese. Really love the carrot cake as it is a perfect mix of everything.…Read More

weekday lunch treat
Swensen's
2013-07-27
There is this promotion going on in swensens and that is WEEKDAY LUNCH TREATS!If you order any main course from 11am to 2pm, you will get a free side, sundae or drink. Of course, my colleagues and I choose ICE CREAM for the free side. You could choose any sundae on the menu and I would recommend banana spilt which is the most expensive side on the menu.As for the mains, i ordered chicken baked rice which is the all times favourite shown on the menu. Becareful when its served as the bowl is very hot. The staff did not warn me beforehand and i got scalded when he was passing the plate to me. It looks very plain but it is quite cheesy at the top.My friend ordered the spicy seafood pasta. I tried the sauce and it tasted very blend, not spicy at all.My banana spilt! you could change flavours from their 3 original flavours. I choose hazelnut, mint and cookies and cream. I would recommend the hazelnut flavour as it is really awesome. It has the most hazelnut taste of all the similar ice cream flavour i have eaten. There are pineapple and strawberry toppings too with chocolate fudge and almonds. I really recommend their banana spilt. Eating the ice cream with the banana is a perfect match! The lunch time promotion is really very worth as you got the side completely FREE! However, eating the main dish and the dessert will make you very full!…Read More

Ramen
Hachifukumaru
2013-07-27
A super big bowl of ramen and i feel that it is very worth the price. It cost $15I ordered the Hachifukumaru ramen with black oil base which is not spicy. You could choose between the black oil base or the red oil base which is hot and spicy. This ramen that i ordered is very colourful and healthy as it consists of alot of different types of vegetables. They include bean sprout, cabbage, corn, carrot, etc. I really like their soup base as it is sweet and rich in flavour. Their ramen is cooked just nice, not being too hard. I am very surprise by how generous they are with their ramen and ingredients. It is indeed a super big bowl that i have difficulty finishing it. There is a lunch special whereby we could top up a dollar to add a side and i choose the gyoza. The set also include a cup of tea which is refillable. The dinning area is actually quite small but there wasn't alot of people when my colleagues and I went there for lunch at around 2pm on a weekday. Our food was served quite fast too. I would really recommend their ramen! Go have a try!…Read More

Carbonara
Gazza Pasta Western Cuisine - Food Republic
2013-07-27
A set that comes with Carbonara and a garlic bread: $6.50I wanted to order a different type of spaghetti (I think was the salmon and mushroom spaghetti) that was on the menu but the staff told me that it was not available. I was only able to choose from 4 different types of spaghetti that was available, even though they had more on the menu. Most of the items are not available :(In the end, I ordered the Carbonara. I was given a buzzer and was told to go back and wait. I think this technology is good as the buzzer will vibrate once your order is ready. You do not have to stand and wait for a long time. I waited about 5 minutes before the buzzer buzz. For carbonara, what is important is the cream sauce. Their sauce is not thick and creamy enough, it seems that the sauce and the spaghetti does not blend in together. The sauce is quite watery. However, they do give a lot of bacon, but i would prefer the sauce to be much thicker and creamier. …Read More
