Spuds & Aprons
2015-02-22
Thanks to the great folks at Faber Peak Singapore, I won $100 Faber Peak dining voucher in their recent Facebook Valentine's Day contest!A brief background - Located at the top of the hill at Mount Faber, the premise was given a complete make over and transformed into a bright and colorful F&B joint. Spuds & Aprons (what a unique name!) brands itself as a fun and playful F&B joint serving up yummy east and west dishes. My wife and I patronized this lovely place on 21st February 2015 (3rd day of the CNY). Upon stepping into Spuds & Aprons, we were warmly greeted by their service staff and bought to our reserved seats promptly. To make eating a comforting affair, you can opt to chill out at the air-conditioned Dining Room or relax at the alfresco Garden. Whatever you choose, both locations offer breath taking view of Sentosa and the alluring city.We opted for the a seat by the side in the alfresco garden as we like the gentle breeze and the open environment. We made the right choice with dinner in the late evening as we managed to catch the beautiful sunset from the comfort of our seats. Our neighbour diners were caught busy snapping photographs using their smartphone from their seats too!Perhaps the best feature of Spuds & Aprons is the scenic view of the cable cars. Lights from the surrounding buildings and cable cars in the sky made the view even more picturesque. If you come to this place on a Saturday in the evening, you get to enjoy a bonus i.e. 8pm firework displays at Universal Studios Singapore. It was spectacular and awesome to watch the fireworks during CNY !!!So much for the ambience, let's get started with the food and drinks! For the starters, at the recommendation of the friendly service staff (Wingo), we ordered the Chilli Crab in a Tux. This dish was so appertizing! We did not realize that we finished it so quickly! The chef prepared hot chilli crab and stuffed it in potato skins. It was really delicious and if this is your first visit, I would recommend that you should try this dish. For the main dishes, again at the recommendations of Wingo, we ordered Oven-roasted mustard marinated chicken and Crispy Pork Belly. The chicken was massaged and roasted till golden brown and served with homemade gravy and mashed spuds. The pork belly was soaked in a hot tub and slowly cooked until fork tender. It was perfectly crispy and yet tender. It was served with homemade pineapple pickle and roasted spuds. For the desserts, we were undecided between two recommended choices i.e. Chempedak Bread and Jar of Happiness Ice cream. Finally, we left it in the good hands of Wingo who insisted that we should try something different. We ordered the Chempedak Bread & Butter Pudding. It was a croissant with creamy custard and chempedak (hot) served with Haagen Dazs Vanilla ice cream (cold). We ended the night with a nice and sweet comfort food. For the drinks, we ordered the non-alcoholic mocktail and smoothies. My wife tried their famous Spuds & Aprons' Sodas With Nata D' Coco Jello  and wild berries. I tried their Minty Mango Madness. The soda was refreshing and fruity! My smoothies was a fushion of mango mix, mango sorbet, yogurt and mint syrup. We enjoyed ourselves very much by sipping the drinks slowly while enjoying the beautiful sunset!Special thanks to Ms Jaslyn Toh who helped us with the prize collection, reservation, excellent customer service, recommendations and "best view" seating arrangement! In addition, special thanks to Mr Wingo for his friendliness, hospitality, excellent customer service and food and drinks recommendations at Spuds & Aprons.http://www.faberpeaksingapore.com/eat-drink-shop/spuds-and-apronsPlease call (+65) 6377 9688 or email: guestrelations@mountfaber.com.sg to check on restaurants' availability and to make a reservation.…Read More

Food Tasting @ Seasons Bistro
Seasons Bistro
2015-01-25
Thank you OpenRice for inviting me for the food tasting session at Seasons Bistro. On the same day of visit, I posted all the dishes tasted in my OpenSnap account. Results of the most popular dish at Seasons Bistro based on the most number of "Likes" are as below as of 25th January 2015.5th Position - Bana Cobb's Salad (32 Likes)I like the presentation - looks appertizing! The ingredients are cajun spiced chicken, eggs, bacon, olives, corn, watercress, tomatoes, avocado, blue cheese and read vine vinaigrette.4th Position - Seasons Cheese Burger (33 Likes)Huge serving and comes with fries and salad. The ingredients are homemade 200gm USA beef patty, stripy jack cheese, brioche bun, caramelized onions, bacon, mushrooms, homemade ketchup and mustard with fries. Too bad, I don't take beef but the fries and salad with the homemade ketchup sauce is nice.3rd Position - SFC Seasons Fried Chicken (38 Likes)Not to be associated with KFC, this is SFC. Quite reasonable fried chicken and the homemade ketchup sauce is awesome. The ingredients are fried chicken, succotash and deviled ranch dressing and homemade ketchup.2nd Position - Lamb Chop (39 Likes)Nice presentation and the baked chessy potatoe is a good compliment to the main dish. The meat is tender and the cook makes the lamb chop just nice. Champion! - Maple Pumpkin Cheese Cake (40 Likes)The dessert is the winner with the most number of likes! Not surprising as the presentation is simply awesome and being a comfort food, it definitely helps to win some votes! The maple pumpkin cheese cake has a unique taste and it is served with cranberry cream with fresh blackberries and strawberries!Overall, Seasons Bistro is a nice and quite place with cool ambience to chill out with your family or friends after a hard day work. It is located near the Somerset MRT Station and the restaurant is within walking distance from the train station.Special thanks to Reka and Adeline for organizing the food tasting event. Special thanks to Seasons Bistro for the fantastic food!…Read More

BKT Lunch
B.K.T. by Kong Kee
2014-12-26
For Christmas, we had Bak Kut Teh for lunch!:) B.K.T. by Kong Kee serves their signature dish Malaysian Klang Style Bak Kut Teh with their original secret recipe created in 1965 by their grandparents in Klang. They are proud of their special Bak Kut Teh. How are they different from the rest? Published on a poster which they displayed on the table, they say.1. They are probably the 1st Bak Kut Teh restaurant in Singapore to serve Klang Style Dry and Soup Bak Kut Teh and Singaporean Teochew Style Bak Kut Teh in one location.2. They use the finest ingredient like fresh pork for the pork ribs.3. They serve Kwey Tiao Soup and Shallot Rice.Teochew Style Bak Kut TehThere are three types of soup bases at B.K.T. by Kong Kee. We opted for the Teochew Style soup base which is usually the normal base. You can drink to your heart’s content as this soup base is refillable. There were generous pork ribs provided in one serving and I like the soup as they did not add too much pepper. The right combination of pepper, garlic and fresh pork ribs makes the soup fragrant and yummy. I love it! The rest of the items were quite standard when you order Bak Kut Teh. We ordered braised eggs, braised beancurd skins and groundnuts. The beancurb skins and groundnuts serving were huge and more than sufficient for two adults! Bah Kut Teh is a Chinese soup that is always listed as one of top must-try dishes in Singapore and it has always been one of my favourite. If you have craving for Bah Kut Teh, especially on a raining day, I recommend B.K.T. by Kong Kee.:)Ps : This is not a sponsored post.…Read More

Pizza Lunch @ Ricciotti
Ricciotti Pizza Pasta Grill
2014-12-25
Ricciotti Pizza Pasta Deli was opened at The Riverwalk in 2004 and in 2006, Ricciotti expanded and opened its second restaurant at China Square Central. Ricciotti has always been my choice for authentic and affordable Italian gourmet food in Singapore.I've earlier tried their "1 for 1 pizza or pasta promotion" at their Star Vista Outlet in October 2014 with delight and it was actually quite value for money. Hence, I invited two friends for a return visit for the same promotion. We did not make any reservations and we were seated down comfortably upon our arrival. I like the wooden interior decorations. The staff were friendly and introduced us the Italian food available under current promotion and those in the ala carte menu.We ordered two types of pizza and one spaghetti to share among the three of us. The Spaghetti Marinara costs S$23.50. The Spaghetti was served with calamari, clams, sea scallops, prawns, cherry tomatoes in light tomato sauce. If you like seafood spaghetti, you will enjoy Spaghetti Marinara. The Carnivora Pizza costs S$18.00 for the 9 inch size and S$25.50 for the 12 inch size. The Carnivora Pizza was filled with honey baked ham, chicken, spicy salami, minced beef, pomodoro and mozzarella cheese. The Prosciutto Cotto E Funghi Pizza costs S$15.00 for the 9 inch size and S$21.50 for the 12 inch size. The Prosciutto Pizza was filled with ham, mushrooms, pomodoro and mozzarella cheese.I like the thick crust for both pizzas. However, among the two types of pizza, I personally preferred the Prosciutto Pizza as I like the ingredients mix (ham and mushrooms). The "1 for 1 promotion" is limited to either "1 for 1 pasta" or  "1 for 1 pizza". This means that you order one type of pizza, you will get the other pizza for free. You pay for the higher priced pizza. You cannot order one pizza and hope to get a pasta for free and vice versa.Overall, I enjoyed our lunch at Ricciotti.  I would recommend this place to fans of Italian cuisine. Ricciotti also offers daily weekday special promotion at their Star Vista Branch. For more details of the offer, you can visit their website.ps : This is not a sponsored post.…Read More

Dim Sum Buffet @ Ju Chun Yuan
Ju Chun Yuan
2014-12-24
It's Christmas Eve! So we decided to try the famous Chinese restaurant (Ju Chun Yuan) which serves good authentic Fuzhou cuisine and dim sum.The restaurant is located in Far East Square building, level 1. For those who are driving, you can park your vehicle in Far East Square. The restaurant looks like a Chinese temple. Walk straight in and you will find the place crowded with people enjoying their cuisine. We saw the banner promoting dim sum buffet lunch at $19.80+ per adult for weekday. So, we decided to go for it and gave us a chance to try the different types of dim sum. There are six dim sum categories as below:1. Steamed2. Baked & Fried3. Vegetables4. Noodle/Congee5. Specialty6. DessertAs it is a buffet, we limited ourselves to a few baked and fried dim sum so that we can try each dim sum from other categories. Please try to order a few dim sum at a time. If not, you will be too full to try the rest.Below is my recommendation.1. Steameda. Beancurd roll with pork and abalone sauce - NICE, MUST orderb. Steamed pork and shrimp dumpling - NICE, CAN orderc. Steamed salted egg custard bun - NICE, CAN order2. Baked & Frieda. Deep fried beancurb skin rill with shrimp - NICE, CAN orderb. Deep fried prawns dumpling with mayonnaise -NICE, CAN order4. Noodle/Congeea. Century egg and pork congee - NICE, MUST order5. Specialtya. Sliced chicken in spicy sauce - NICE, MUST orderb. Deep fried pork ribs with Juchunyuan sauce - NICE, CAN order (Note: big portion)c. Chilled pork shank with garlic - NOT NICE, can skipd. Sliced pork belly with spicy sauce - NICE, MUST order6. Dessert a. Chilled Almond Pudding - NICE, MUST orderb. Osmanthus with Wolfberry Cake - NICE, CAN orderc. Aloe & Lemongrass Jelly - NOT NICE, can skipd. Chilled Durian & fresh cream in pancake - NICE, MUST ordere. Chilled Sago with Mango and Pomelo - NICE, MUST orderOverall, I enjoyed the dim sum here much better than some of the other Chinese restaurants. Go for the items in "Specialty" category as the items are unique and more pricey and it is worth to try it. You must definitely try their signature dessert i.e. durian pancake! The durian is sweet and bitter and I love it so much!I paid S$46 for two adults. If we were to order the dim sum individually, the bill would have been S$123!!!. Hence, it is really quite worth it to try their dim sum buffet. Please note that this restaurant does not impose Service Charge for dining. This is another good advantage. …Read More

Quick Fix @ Hot Tomato!
Hot Tomato Cafe & Grill
2014-12-24
I first tried the food at Hot Tomato in Causeway Point a few years back. I was impressed with the pricing and quality of the food. Hence, I brought my colleagues to try their set lunch at their Star Vista branch.Hot Tomato brands themselves as a place to embrace the happiness that comes with good food. It is a casual western dining place i.e. a place to please your stomach and wallet!:)For Set Lunch, you can cherry pick the main course from the food menu. Suggest you opt for the "adds on" which is either $2.50 or $3.50 as it is quite worth it.For Lunch Express, add $2.50++ to any main course to get daily soup + drink (weekdays only from 11am to 3pm) and exclude PH.For All Day upgrades, add $3.50++ to any main course to get daily soup + drink (weekdays 3pm to 10.30pm) (weekends 11am to 10.30pm).Recommended Main CourseUsually, I will opt for either one of the below mentioned main course. However, they have a lot of different choices, depending on your personal preference.Fish & ChipsAt S$8.90, you will get Fish & Chips served with french fries, tartare sauce and served with salsa and crispy romaine lecttuce and small cherry tomatoes. The fish portion served was huge (see photo) and fresh! I like the fact that the batter was not too thick and hence you still retain a crunchy bite. The french fries were standard and nothing exceptional but decent. The small cherry tomatoes compliment the dory fish!Rotisserie Chicken Rosemary (half)At S$9.90, you will get one-half of a baby chicken, marinated with fresh herbs, lemon and olive oil, served with creamy mash potato and pepper gravy. The portion served was quite generous (even though it was one-half) and the chicken was well marinated and cooked appropriately. You get some thigh and breast meat for half a baby chicken. If you want a quick fix for a value for money meal, you can come to Hot Tomato! Beside the food, the service was alright and you do not have to wait long for the food (weekday).…Read More

Dim Sum Lunch @ Mouth Restaurant
Mouth Restaurant
2014-12-24
Mouth Restaurant has been around for more than 20 years and I remembered eating there once many years ago when I was a teenage in the 80s! Recently, after running some errands, I had the chance to try their traditional dim sum with my mum at their Chinatown Point Branch. My mum, being a Cantonese, loves dim sum. When we arrived (without making any reservation), the place was crowded and filled with diners. We managed to snag a table in the middle of the restaurant as someone has just left. They cleaned the table and prepared the table settings in a quick fashion and we didn't have to wait too long.I ordered a few dim sum dishes which are my mum's favourite. We ordered century egg & shredded pork porridge, pan fried carrot cake, siew mai, steamed beancurb roll, deep fried beancurb roll and hot and sour sichuan soup. To be honest, I felt their food quality standards have dropped slightly. I wouldn't jump for joy after eating the dim sum but I will say it is decent and reasonable. Among all the dishes ordered, the century egg porridge was the best. I like the texture and generous portions of shredded pork and century egg. Siew mai was nice with reasonable sized prawns fillings. The fried carrot cake's presentation was good as it looked crispy on the outside and tasted okay inside. The steamed beancurb roll was quite standard but I didn't enjoy the deep fried beancurb roll though as it was too overdone. The hot and sour soup tasted as authentic as the one you order in a Sichuan Chinese Restaurant. If you are hankering after dim sum from the 80's, you can visit Mouth Restaurant for a taste of nostalgic dim sum.…Read More

Lunch @ Wo Peng Restaurant
Wo Peng Restaurant
2014-12-22
I was told by a friend that Wo Peng Restaurant brings you the very best traditional and authentic Hong Kong style Cantonese cusine. Armed with two sets of Groupon coupons (worth SGD$80 each), I bought my family of four to try their lunch on a weekday. The restaurant was crowded even though our appointment was 130pm. The staff were busy handling other customers. Most of the customers were using the Groupon coupons vouchers. It took ten minutes before the waitress was able to take our order. It also took a long time before the dishes were served. We ordered some dishes from the a la carte menu and some dim sum. Perhaps we came too late as most of the dishes stated in the menu were not available. We were rather disappointed.SoupWe ordered two types of of soup. The menu reads "A Daily Soup, A Healthy Choice", so we selected the healthy version. The double boiled chicken soup with bamboo pith and chinese cabbage is quite reasonable in terms of taste but it is quite pricey at SGD13 per bowl. I didn't enjoy the double boiled cordyceps flower soup with drendrobium and meat reduction. It tasted like Chinese medicine.DishesThe Stir-fried asparagus and scallops was nice. The scallops were big and fresh. The irony : This was a substituted dish as the original dish which we ordered (traditional smoked and roasted duck with camphor and tea leaf) did not arrive after waiting for fifty minutes. The staff did not realize that the duck was out of stock until we enquired why it took so long to serve the duck). It was obviously a mistake:(The blanch Taiwan cabbage with century egg, salted egg and egg white in superior stock was quite nice. It wasn't too salty and it is comparable to the one served in Diao Xiao Er, which is my all time favourite!Dim SumWe ordered mostly common and standard dim sum such as Siew Mai, Har Gow (Fresh Shrimp Dumplings) and Steamed Pork Ribs. I would rate the dim sum average and reasonable which you can get similar dim sum in other Cantonese restaurants.DessertsOut of the seven items advertised in the desserts menu, only three are available. We selected Chilled Mango Puree with Pomelo and Sago and Home-made Osmunthus Jelly. Similarly like the dim sums, I would rate the desserts reasonable and average. I like the sweet Mango Pudding with pomelo (though little) better than the Osmunthus Jelly. The Jelly tasted like agar agar and it costs SGD6 per bowl.ConclusionTo be honest, I was disappointed with the lunch @ Wo Peng Restaurant. It fell short of my expectations on many factors such as quality of food, pricing, customer services, waiting time and food presentation. Sincerely hope they can make improvement to win back the customers in future.…Read More

Set Lunch @ TungLok Xihe Orchard Central
TungLok Xihe Peking Duck
2014-12-21
TungLok Xihe Restaurant is located on the 7th floor of Orchard Central. You will not miss the authentic looking entrance once you step out from the lift.We heard so much about the peking duck and we had really wanted to try the famous peking duck. However, you need to wait for 50 minutes and the two of us probably cannot finish one duck by ourselves. Hence, we opted for the Set Lunch which costs SGD$58++ per person this time round and will return with more family members to try the peking duck.Double boiled live prawn and scallops with superior soup served in young coconutThe first dish served was the hot soup. I liked the refreshing broth. There were fresh prawns and scallops in the soup. They served the soup in a coconut which is something different.Steamed cod fillet with shredded ginger and "Chen Pi"The cod fish was smooth and not too "milky", and I liked it prepared this way, steamed it and eat it while it is hot. The serving was not too huge and it was just right. Pan-Fried Kurobuta PorkThe pork ribs were tender and soft and easy to chew. I love the presentation!Stir-fried asparagus with fungus and macadamia nutsThe only vegetable dish served, the combination of asaparagus, fungus and macadmia nuts was quite interesting. I love the macadamia nuts the most and hope that they had put in more nuts to this dish.Fried rice with Dried Conpoy and SeafoodI found the fried rice too plain and luckily they provided me with green chillies to go with the fried rice. The presentation is nice and the serving was too generous for one person.Double boiled Hashima with AlmondI was too full to enjoy this hot dessert. The hashima has a strong distinct almond smell and taste. It would be nice if they had substituted this dessert with chilled mango pudding.Overall, a decent place for a reasonable set lunch. The ambience is nicely decorated and the food and customer services are acceptable. I still hope to try the Peking Duck one day!…Read More

Porn's Lunch
PORN'S
2014-12-20
The title of this review may be misleading  !This is actually the Thai restaurant run by the popular Singapore TV host and Celebrity Pornsak Prajakwit. So, we decided to venture into the "Sexy Thai Food"!We didn't make any reservation and walked in directly to their Star Vista's outlet. As it was a weekday during lunch break, it wasn't crowded. We managed to get a seat quickly. The entrance is extremely colorful and delightful and there is a mock up statue of Pornsak at the entrance to welcome us to his restaurant.Unlike other Thai restaurants in Singapore, the indoor is decorated with colorful graffitti and Thai decoration, giving a cheerful look.As there is only two of us, we ordered two simple famous Thai food.Pratunam Fish CakeThe fish cakes go well with white rice. The prawn cake is delicious and one serving is good for two adults. Good balance and combination of fresh prawns, pepper and bread crumbs. You must dip the prawn cake in the "Pad Thai" i.e. a reddish looking sweet taste sauce. Such sauces are common in Thai street hawker in Bangkok.Innocent Tom Yum Fish SoupI am unsure why they named it as innocent. It is definitely not innocent! Though this is the "clear" tom yum version, it is really hot and spicy!!! There are many different types of tom yum soup available here. You can take your time to pick the type you enjoy. The fish slice were fresh and sweet. Overall, we had a enjoyable lunch with interesting and colorful art work on the wall and nice ambience. The customer services were also above average. The cooking is really commendable and yummy! I will plan another visit soon!Kob Khun Krap …Read More

Department Lunch @ Gan Yakitori
Gan Yakitori
2014-12-08
The Star Vista at Buona Vista offers a large number of eateries and restaurants. The addition of Gan Yakitori Japanese Restaurant on the 2nd floor increases the wide range of dining options which is good for foodie like me.I did my research before I organized a department lunch at Gan Yakitori. According to The Star Vista website which introduces this restaurant as one of their tenants, Gan Yakitori uses bincho charcoal for great taste. Bincho charcoal is the most suitable fuel for grilled dishes and all their yakitori are carefully grilled to perfection by their Japanese chef. Gan Yakitori also uses 100% Japanese rice and their special chicken soup is painstakingly boiled for over 8 hours with loadful of ingredients and it is "MSG free".Satisfied with the research, we organized an early Christmas lunch at Gan Yakitori today with 9 of my colleagues. We arrived at the restaurant at 12noon and the Japanese Manager led us to a long dining table reserved for 10 pax. The waitress provided us with clean napkins to wash our our hands while we were looking at the set lunch menu.Unaiju Teishoku (Charcoal Eel Set)Most of us ordered the unagi set lunch. The original price for the set lunch was $19+. They are having a special promotion (30% discount) and offering it at $13+. It was a good deal as we know good quality unagi is quite pricey. For those who do not know unagi, it is a savory and slightly sweet freshwater eel. The two pieces of unagi fillet were placed on top of the yellow colored  "egg noodles" and the Japanese rice at the bottom. The first bite of the unagi was unbelievable. The Japanese Chef did a great job by grilling the unagi to the right texture, infusing with sauce and reducing the the excess fat making it really delicious. My colleagues shared the same sentiments and they finished all their unagi. I believe the Japanese chef was highly trained to grill the unagi in order to achieve this perfect taste.Buta Don Teishoku (Pork & Onion with Egg Yolk Rice Set)This set lunch costs $12.80. The egg yolk was nested nicely in the middle of the pork and onion rice set bowl. Only one colleague ordered this set and his verdict was not bad. The pork was just nice for him and and the sauce was not too sweet.Mizutaki Nabe Teishoku (Chicken and Vegetables with Soup Hot Pot Set)This set lunch costs $14.80. The presentation was not bad and it looks like steamboat served in a hot pot. Similarly, although only one colleague ordered this set, she likes it for the simplicity (tender chicken meat, vegetables and tofu cooked in the hot pot) and served well with a bowl of fragrant Japanese rice.Overall, it is a good place for a simple lunch with friends, relatives or colleagues. Their popular set lunch range from $12.80 to $14.80 and usually it includes a bowl of soup and small salad. Drinks are not included and you can order Iced or Hot Green Tea at $1per cup (complimentary refill). All prices are subjected to 10% Service Charge and 7% GST. …Read More

Lunch @ Morganfield's
Morganfield's
2014-12-07
We heard Morganfield's offers fabulous set lunch. My colleague and I decided to lunch in at their Star Vista Branch which is within walking distance from our office.Located on the second floor of The Star Vista, the restaurant is huge and you can pick the corner window seat for a beautiful view of the greenery surrounding. The restaurant is decorated to the theme of American style. We did not make any reservation and we walked in directly. We did not have to wait too long and we were ushered to a comfortable seats. After browsing their menu, we decided to order their "Oinkingly Top Value Set Lunch".Beer Battered Fish FilletThe fish fillets were huge, tasty and fresh. The fish meat was smooth and tender. I like it But I wondered why they named it as "beer battered"?Black Pepper Chicken ChopThe chicken thigh was awesome and delicious but it was rather small. The fish fillet serving was more generous. French fries were nice with chilli sauce.Soup of the DayEach set lunch comes with complimentary soup of the day and a cold/hot drink. It is quite value for moneyChocolate Lava CakeWe shared the Chocolate Lava Cake. The hot chocolate cake melts in your mouth like lava flowing out from the volcano. The ice cream was just nice and not too sweet to compliment the chocalate cake. Overall, it was really a good lunch and it was value for money. I like the ambience as it was quiet and you will have a lot of privacy. The waitresses' customer services were good and they offered us hot napkins at the end of the meal.:)…Read More

Lunch @ Grandma's Restaurant
Grandma's
2014-12-07
We had our lunch at Grandma's Restaruant as we wanted to try out their local arrays of dish, prepared in a conventional way, just the way Grandma used to cook it.We tried Grandma's fried rice as it was a promotion item, selling at $5.80 each. We ordered one plate each and as soon as they served it to us, we regretted our decision as the serving was huge! The fried rice was fragrant and there was three peeled prawns. We ordered the Mini Ngoh Hiang. For those who may not be familiar with Ngoh Hiang, it is a minced meat roll wrapped in beancurd skin in the form of spring roll. It is reasonable. For vegetable, we ordered the Kang Kong stirred fried with sambal chilli. It was cooked in spices blended with a combination of chilli, shallots, garlic and belacan. I like it!As we know curry is always one of the dishes that most Singaporean craves for, we could not resist from trying Grandma's Curry Chicken. The curry tasted just right with the right spices and the curry chicken drumlets and chicken wings were delicious. For those with Facebook account, you can enjoy complimentary Iced Tea if you like Grandma's Facebook.Overall, their tastes and pricing are reasonable. Their customers services are above expectations.…Read More

Buddha Jump Over the Wall and Whole Abalone Menu
Mayim Chinese Cuisine
2014-12-06
This has to be one of the best deal I enjoyed in 2014 :)Mayim Chinese Cuisine is located in Northpoint Shopping Mall. We had two good hours to wait before the movie's screening at Yishun Golden Village, so we decided to try Mayim's Buddha Jump Over the Wall and Whole Abalone Set Dinner Menu.Mayim is usually packed with shoppers over the weekend, naturally as people started to enjoy sit down dinner after their "retail therapy". You have to be prepared to wait if you arrive after 7pm during the peak period, especially weekends or Public Holiday. We waited for a good ten minutes before we were ushered to a table for two. There was a long queue behind us.This Set Dinner Menu was really awesome. I will introduced each of the dish.Buddha Jump Over the WallThis came by default with the set. They did not compromise on the quality though it was part of a set dinner. The original a la carte price was S$28. It was served hot and the Chinese soup consisted of all the goodies you can imagine such as slice abalone, dried scallop, fish maw, mushroom, shark's fin, sea cumcumber, chicken pieces, dried bamboo shoots and chinese ham. I really love it!!!New Zealand Deep Green AbaloneThis also came by default with the set. Each of us was served a whole piece of abalone. The abalone was from New Zealand and it was very tasty, chewy and amazing. The original a la carte price was S$35. I really love it!Stewed Sakura deep sea King Prawn with flavored bean threadThis dish is under Mix & Match Menu which you can select from a listing of dishes as part of the set. The prawn was not as huge as the menu photo but it was very fresh and the skins were easily peeled from the prawn. The bean thread was delicious. I wish they had served more bean thread.Golden Prawn Coated with Mayonnaise SauceThis dish is is under Mix & Match Menu which you can select from a listing of dishes as part of the set. The prawn was fried to the right texture (golden colored) and coated with mayonnaise sauce for the perfect taste!Golden Fried Scallop stuffed with cuttlefish paste in spiced saltThis dish is under Mix & Match Menu which you can select from a listing of dishes as part of the set. The scallop was huge and enclosed with the "capsule". The external of the "capsule" was covered with cuttlefish. This is the perfect seafood experience when you combine scallop and cuttlefish together!Chilled Mango Pudding with StrawberryThis chilled dessert came by default with the set. There were real slices of mango hidden inside the bowl of mango pudding as you digged in. A good comfort food to wrap up for the dinner!Overall, we enjoyed our dinner very much. The total worth of the dishes was really more than what you would have paid for, compared to if you have ordered the dish separately. The quality of the food were high. The waitresses' customer services were reasonable as they were too busy serving a crowed and packed restaurant. We would definitely make a return trip.:)…Read More

Dinner @ House of Seafood
House Of Seafood
2014-12-06
My wife won $100 dining voucher to be utilized in House of Seafood chains of restaurant. We decided to try out the branch along Upper Serangoon Road.Upper Serangoon Shopping Centre reminded me of Golden Miles Complex - especially the look and feel of the interior shops. We took a while to find the restaurant which is located on the third floor. The directional signs put up by the restaurant along the way are useful.House of Seafood is famous for their crabs! Their famous crab dishes include Black Pepper Crab, Chilli Crab, Golden Creamy Butter Crab and Salted Egg Crab.  If this is your first visit, I will highly recommend you to try their Black Pepper Crab for a start. The price of the crabs depends on the weight of the crab and accordingly to the seasonal market rate. Hence, please enquire the price with the restaurant Captain prior to order of crabs. As we have tried their famous crabs previously, we decided to skip the crabs and try other a la carte seafood dishes. We ordered Braised Beancurd with Fresh Crab Meat, Scallop with seasonal Vegetable, Coffee-flavored Pork Ribs, Fish Maw and Crab Meat Broth, Fried Chicken with Honey Sauce and Fish Fillet with vegetable. Among the dishes, my first personal favorite dish was Scallop with Asparagus. The scallops were fresh, huge and chewy. My second personal favorite dish was the Fried Chicken. The chicken meat were marinated with honey sauce which made it really tasty and delicious. The Fish Fillet were very fresh and it helped as it was not too filling. The rest of the dishes tasted reasonable and comparable to other equivalent seafood restaurants. Please take note that the serving for the fish maw was too huge for the two of us. Luckily, the restaurant Captain recommended that we ordered the smaller size. You need to enjoyed the broth while it was hot or else it would become too starchy.Overall, we enjoyed our dinner though we did not ordered their best seller crabs!…Read More
