Wu Xiang Smile Sep 20, 2013

Categories : Coffeeshop

I met up with my friend for supper at one of the coffee shops near to his house. We ordered wu xiang to eat while we chatted. The wu xiang here is quite nice, there are a lot of ingredients that we could choose from. We ordered the ngor hiang, taiwanese sausage, tau kwa and a couple of other fried stuff which we are not quite sure of but took it because it looks nice. Most of the ingredients that we chose are still crispy even though it probably has been fried for some time. I love the ngor hiang the best of all because the ngor hiang's taste is the most savoury. The taiwanese sausage is not really to my liking as it felt too artificial and too salty. We did not order beehoon but if you want it to be more filling, you can order beehoon.

Frolick Smile Sep 20, 2013

After our movie at Cathay, my wife and I had frolick. I think it is 100% fat free hence it is a lighter option as compared to having ice cream. The flavour that was available on the day we went was green apple, so we had that. The girl recommended us to add toppings to enhance the whole taste of the yogurt so we decided to just add one topping. There are lots of different toppings like m&ms, and nuts like hazelnuts and also dried fruits. We added the oreo bits which we felt was a safe choice. The green apple is really very refreshing. The taste is a little tart and it is very smooth and a little icy. The oreo bits appeared to be a good choice as it added some chocolate taste to the yogurt. I quite enjoyed it and I am certain I will be back to try other flavours.

Average fish porridge OK Sep 20, 2013

This stall had one of the shortest queue, so I decided to make my order there since I had only 30 minutes to spare. I got the fish porridge which costs $4.50. There are shredded ginger added on the top of the porridge for eating together with the porridge. I think ginger serves to remove the fishy taste from fish. At first when I got the porridge, I was quite worried as I did not see any fish at all from the surface of the bowl, but I realised later upon mixing that it is all at the bottom of the bowl. The porridge is smooth and it is of the right consistency, not too overly thick or watery. The slices of fish do not have the fishy taste which is great as I am very sensitive to the fishy stench. The porridge, although it looks plain, is already adequately flavoured hence there is no need for additional sauce. To be very frank, I don't really see what is so special about this porridge, I think it is quite average.

Spending per head: Approximately $4

No sesame fragrance Cry Sep 19, 2013

I tried out the desserts at Honeymoon Dessert last weekend. There are a lot of different desserts from hot to cold and there are also different categories of desserts available from ice cream to beancurd to pastes etc etc, you will definitely be spoilt for choice. I am a traditional person so I still preferred the traditional desserts. I got the sesame paste for myself. I felt that the sesame taste somehow seems to be lacking that day, the paste is just not fragrant enough. The paste is still rather thick but it was a disappointment because the sesame flavour did not come out. I hope it is just a once off incident since I have had this before previously and it was good.

Turtle Soup  Smile Sep 19, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre | Chinese Soup

The turtle soup here is supposedly quite nice so my wife and I decided to try it. The minimum cost is $8 so we ordered the $8 portion since we had something to eat before coming down. There is yam rice available at 70 cents or white rice if you prefer white rice. The turtle soup is quite strong and robust in taste and it is quite nice. For better flavour, the chinese rice wine is added which helps to lift the taste entirely. The turtle meat is quite firm and has a springly texture. I like to dip it in the tangy chili sauce to give it more flavour. Overall, I think it is quite a refreshing change from the normal soups and something you should try if you havent tried before.
