Pretty place, Bad service Cry Jan 15, 2013

Nihon Mura is a well decorated place. Their wooden furniture and warm lighting makes the ambience really nice. Even their walls were decorated with Japanese characters. Walking in makes diners feel like they are really in a Japan.

It makes me wonder why the restaurant had spent so much effort into decorating the place, but not training their staff to be more polite and welcoming. Unlike most other Japanese restaurant which greets us in Japanese once diners come into the restaurant, Nihon Mura staff seems to take diners for granted. Even though there were plenty of seats inside the restaurant and no other diners in queue, they took a long time to seat my friends and I. Note that we are a group of 8, so it’s pretty hard to miss us. And when we are to ask for help, it took us ages to get their attention because the staff all seemed to be hiding somewhere in the kitchen or at corners, deliberately away from our sight.

When we sat down, the staff that served us was rude was well, looking as though she was going to rush off to other places. She was super impatient and had a black face on throughout the order. It made all of us panicky to hurry up our orders and spoiling our mood even before the meal ): We were super irritated by it because she was the one hiding from our order, and yet now rushing us to complete it. They way they slam down our utensils and glasses of water was extremely rude too.

The food wasn’t terrific as well. It was quite pricey, so I would expect better quality food. They tasted bland and not well cooked. Perhaps their cooks were as impatient as their service staff, rushing off to somewhere else. I’m not sure if we have visited them on a bad day, or they were like this all along. Checking out other reviews online made me realized their service have been persisting like this for quite some time already.

Nice place, but pricey Cry Jan 04, 2013

Not one of my favorite place for sure. I don’t think the food was good enough to match the price :/ Place and atmosphere wise, it was big, so it was quite comfortable sitting in. Many families with children are there too. So it’s felt quite friendly and welcoming there.

The restaurant had three words written under its name – Ribs, Seafood and Steaks – so one would definitely expect these three to be the highlights of the place. I’m not really a steak person, so my friend tried the ribs and seafood instead. It took quite sometime for the dishes to come, but I don’t blame them for that as ribs and seafood.. well, they do take some time to cook. And to prepare for that we ordered potato skins with cheese as an appetizer.

However, the potato skins were not as tasty as it sounded. The cheese had mostly solidified when it arrived and was a little tough to chew on. So it was a little disappointing from the start. I’m unsure whether the dish itself was bad, or did the staff took too long to delivery the dish to our table.

But what’s more disappointing was the ribs. It looked good, but was so overcooked and everything was crispy, dry and broke into small dust pieces when cut or bite in. It was horrible and there was almost no meat or edible bits to chew on. We are really chewing on the burnt ribs sad The fish dish didn’t help to add much stars to the restaurant. Only average and overpriced.

It was really upsetting and disappointing. And of course the bill came in 3 digits for a meal for 2 person. One ribs, one seafood, one appetizer and drinks. For the drinks, I couldn’t really remember the names I believe I ordered a drink called the Sunrise and a Tony roma’s special, but they looked and tasted the same D:

Good food, not great service OK Jan 17, 2013

Walking into Barcelos, my group of friends and I wasn’t welcomed with the most excellent service. We had to wait quit a long time at the entrance before a staff finally attended to us after what seems to be an endless chat with his fellow colleagues. It was a little turn off for all of us, but since we’re all tired and hungry after a day at Sentosa, we decided to patronize the restaurant anyway.

The restaurant was well-decorated with big wooden furniture, which would be great if it was a little more clean. However, the ambience was still serene and comfortable for a good catching up session with friends.

The special thing about Barcelos is that they give us the freedom to choose the Spice level which we desire. In ascending order of spiciness, there are Tangy Lemon, Mild Peri, Veri Peri and finally Supa Peri. I had a Mild Peri Chicken Pasta Combo $14.95, which comes with a free flow soft drink as well. Without a combo it’s $12.95, but since it’s just $2 for unlimited drinks, I figured why not.

The food tasted awesome. The chicken was tender and very juicy, though it got a little bland when you dug deeper into it. The sauce did not penetrate all the way through the chicken. However, it was a little bit too expensive for the service size. For almost $15, I would expect a much bigger portion. The amount of pasta was too little and I’m still hungry even after finish eating the chicken down to the bones ): But I did not order another dish as I do not think it’s worth it to spend more money than I already had.

Nevertheless, if you’re looking for something filling, just something to satisfy your taste buds, Barcelos is a great place to go for some great tasting food. I heard they have a delivery service now as well, hotline is 62199408 for diners who are interested.

Crowded, Average food OK Jan 15, 2013

A pretty recent fast food chain in Singapore. My first visit was at Changi Airport T3, but it was not as good as what I expected. Extremely crowded restaurant, with diners hunting for seats and children running about. It's not really clean and the service staff was not very efficient in cleaning up the trays.

Food wise, it was average. The chicken were smaller than the ones in KFC. Though the whipped potato has a stronger potato taste in it. They also serve corn, which was not too bad as well.
Overall okay for a fast meal, but not my favorite fast food.

Cute place, Average Food OK Jan 14, 2013

What I love about Hot Tomato Cafe is that their staff are all very friendly, giving diners a very welcoming feeling. The place has a variety of seats, from the booth, to regular tables and chairs, to round cushion filled cubicles.

Their food seems better the previous time i visit in 2012. Now it's quite average. You can top up about $3 for a drink, soup and a piece of garlic bread. However, that one piece of garlic bread is really small and pathetic ):

Main dish wise, their serving size was great. Reviews from my friends were all average, nothing to be excited about. I tried the carbonara, which was way too salty for me ): They can do better than this!
