Wonderful place to sit back, enjoy their coffee, and reading some materials. I had wanted to try their mains but arrived too late, and have to settle down with their tea and cakes.

Ordered Smores which is like chocolate cake with marshmallows. Didn't quite like their marshmallow, but their chocolate taste is sweet and mouth-watering!

Also had the Houjicha Karingue tea. Originated from Japan, and its sweet, totally complementing with my chocolate cake.

Its quiet ambience is definitely a place to relax, and kill off some free time. Crews are friendly, and their concept is pretty interesting. Hope to visit them soon to try their mains!

Hidden find! Smile Feb 06, 2013

It isn't hard to locate Loysel's Toy because it is just located along the rochor river in kampong bugis street. Housed under a commerical building, it has quite a wide dining area.

Had the eggs benedict on toast with bacon for $12. Eggs benedict has only a slight vinegar taste, unlike some other cafes where the vinegar taste is over-empowering. Egg yolk is not too runny.

Big L Breakfast for $15 thats comes with scrambled/poached eggs, bacon, mushroom, sausages. Scrambled eggs is between the level of watery and runny which is just nice.

Hooked on Curry Fish Heads Smile May 24, 2015

For more details, please visit http://www.foodesteem.com/2015/05/hooked-on-heads.html

Hooked on Heads. The easiest way to get there from Upper Thomson Road is to enter from Jalan Todak and followed by a U-shaped turn to get to Sin Ming Road.

Stir-fried Garlic Kang Kong ($8.00), which is supposed to be sambal kang kong. We requested for the stir-fried and here comes the crunchy vegetable with a tint of garlic taste.

Mixed Assorted Vegetables ($8.00) is another "green" dish to make our meal seems as though healthier. What I like about both their vegetable dish is that Hooked on Heads do not tend to overcook.

Seafood Tofu ($10.00). I love tofu dishes that are stewed and have those super thick gravy that can also goes along very well with the rice! Hooked on Heads did not disappoint me, and quite like the feel of the soft tofu rumbling in my mouth before slipping down my throat.

Prawn Paste Chicken ($10.00). The savory taste of the juicy chicken and crunching sounds of the fried skin is too hard to resist. This plate of nicely fried wings is a must-order item when in Hooked on Heads.

Curry Fish Head ($42.00 for whole head). If you are dining in Hooked on Heads, their fish head is present on most tables, and the smell of it is circulating around the restaurant.

Having a little mouth-itch, I separately ordered the Banana Fritters Special ($7.00). To be honest, it wasn't quite what I expected, and I seriously prefer the usual deep-fried banana as a whole. But having tagged the word "special", it has to be unique in a way? Dough is not fried to crisp, but the adding of icing sugar and dipped with mayonnaise and maple syrup gives it a different taste, and I felt as though I was munching on the McDonald's pancakes! Banana inside is not totally fried, and it does seems to be a wonderful snack or dessert for kids.

Hooked on Heads seems like a usual tze char stall, but the food variety is quite an exclusive to them as we don't see such amount of delicacies sold in other restaurants. Definitely a return trip for me again, to try on their other food which I believe I will have no doubt on the same standard when served to my table. For a moment, I thought I went into a Peranakan tze char stall, and at a time, I thought I was in a Thai cuisine restaurant too! It is like a mixture of some and being blended into a place for diners to enjoy delicacies from different cultures, and it was indeed an enjoyable meal.

Biker-themed Smile Feb 22, 2015

For more details, please visit http://www.foodesteem.com/2015/02/handlebar.html

Handlebar is just right behind the Water Venture building. There is no designated parking lots, so you may park anywhere as long as road is not disrupted for other drivers.
Handlebar is pretty spacious in its outdoor seating, while indoor can be limited, but housed with various interesting ornaments for viewing pleasure. It has the funky ambiance which made us wander around the place for quite some time.

Another interesting thing about Handlebar is their grenade-shaped bottles for salt and pepper, and also the container used to place all the sauces and cutlery.

Blossom Onion ($12.00). Use of white onions, sliced and fried to crisp. I am not a fan of onions, but the taste of blossom onion does not parade the strong pungent smell of onions, instead it has a slight sweet taste, which has now become my favorite.

Cocaine Wings ($12.00). For those who are not a frequent spicy eater, the low level might be barely manageable. We are able to manage the low level but taking the level up to medium might really need people with enough courage. Wings are tender and juicy, with the fried wings dabbed with spicy chili oil.

Righteous Ribs ($28.00). Sweet BBQ ribs, easy to slice and tender to chew. For the rib-likers, this is a sure-to-order dish.

Southern Country Chicken Steak ($22.00) with mashed potatoes and supposedly baked beans or boiled vegetables. Choice between fried or grilled chicken breast, I chose the latter and without a choice came with boiled vegetables. Perhaps Handlebar can do better in their plate presentation, as the use of big plate make this dish seems a little on the minimalist style, and therefore less tempting than the Righteous Ribs.

Jumbo Chicken Dog ($12.00) which also come with fries. What seem to be the easiest dish to prepare among the 3 mains, was the last to arrive on the table. Fries which look-supposedly to be placed on the same plate, but came separately instead. Chicken dog tasted rubbery, as though it wasn't cooked at all, and seem cold. It was left a quarter unfinished due to this.

Place wise is definitely out of the way, but seems a good place for some drinking and chilling out with friends-alike through the night with some beer and food. While most of the mains and sides are pretty yummy and worth a return trip, the Jumbo Chicken Dog dropped a few ratings.

Korean buffet in Marina Square! Smile May 28, 2014

For more details, please visit http://foodesteem.blogspot.com/2014/05/the-corner-place-korean-bbq.html

The Corner Place Korean BBQ is not really located at the most corner, but I don't really think anyone will care right?
Decided to try their buffet which is only available for dinner during the weekdays, and whole day for weekends. Of course, ala carte menu is available too throughout the week.
Most of the raw food (meat) looks appetizing to taken for bbq-ing, and the ready-cooked dishes doesn't seems bad either.
There is this huge plate of ready-cooked glass noodle, similar to the Chinese version of rice vermicelli. Wasn't really expecting any good taste out of it, thus it took me by surprise when after I tasted.
Ssamjang is a winning sauce in their restaurant, ideally for meat lovers! Indeed, the sweet taste of the sauce does enhance the flavors of the meat.
Kimchi Fried Rice, one of their other ready-cooked food, is kept in the rice cooker. Wouldn't mind scooping another bowl for it!
Another ready cooked food you should not miss is the fried chicken wing. I actually expected it to be dry and soggy type, but it went the exact opposite of my thoughts. Yummy!
I set my expectation pretty low, and I got surprised by the quality of the food and service provided. For the price of $31.98 (lunch), else $37.98 (dinner), I think it is still quite reasonable.
I believe most places might not even care, but The Corner Plae Korean BBQ's crew took the initiative to change the aluminium foil every now and then, when 70-80% of the foil is charred.
