Poison Ivy Bistro is a Halal bistro, thus very suitable for Muslims to dine there as well. If you are expecting western-style food, you might in for a disappointment, as they serve more to local-Indian cuisine.
I was surprised to see this makeshift paper-crafted "dustbin", which I will usually see back home. Well, at least you do not have to feel bad about making the tables dirty, or having your plates filled with bones instead of yummylicious food!
Warrior's Platter ($20.00 for 2pax). A total of 6 items, namely Warrior's Chix Curry, Asam Pedas Fish, Tofu with Black Sauce & Mushroom, Chap Chye, Bollywing, and Tempura. All items are served in small portion, but can be filling before you knew it.
The Warrior's Platter also come with a bowl of brown rice, clearly displaying 2 portions for 2 pax.
Banana Curry ($10.00). I just couldn't take my craving off this item as it seem so unique? I was thinking the curry will be cooked with banana fruit, but no. Basically a sweetened curry with potatoes.
KangKong with Garlic ($8.00). Chopped KangKong? This is one of its kind though. Its crunchiness retains while chopped to look like spring onions. You can opt for the spicy version if you like for the same price, but we decided to go on something lighter.
Bollywood Dessert Special ($4.00). It consists of a small portion of banana cake, and a cup of vanilla ice cream with what-seems like maple syrup as the sauce.

For more details, please visit http://www.foodesteem.com/2015/07/tong-kee-chicken-rice.html
Tong Kee Chicken Rice has been operating since 1969, previously located in Margaret Drive. For the long history Tong Kee Chicken Rice has come and having passed down in generation, one can imagine the popularity level it has garnered over the years.
It has been a waste that Tong Kee Chicken Rice wasn't heard by my ears till recently, but as a saying goes, it's never too late.
Tong Kee Chicken Rice sells mainly roasted meat like roasted chicken (烧鸡), roasted pork (烧肉), and char siew (叉烧). So if you have a liking for roasted meat, Tong Kee Chicken Rice is not be missed out in your list.
Having the concept of self-service, you will be able to roughly know the waiting time till you can get a plate of chicken rice for your own.
Looking at my entire plate of roasted chicken, I immediately know I would love it. Indeed it is when I started spooning myself! The tender and juicy meat is absolutely mouthwatering. Little fats underneath the shiny roasted skin makes it a healthier choice too.
Two sauces that must be tried rather than just savouring on the meats and soup.
Sweet gravy for the roasted meat, which surprisingly isn't sweetness overload, and chicken rice chilli comes with a tiny bit of sourness to boost the refreshing effect. Likewise for the plate of chicken rice, it isn't oily yet the fragrance cannot be overlooked.
On my return visit, I will definitely give the roasted pork and char siew a try. That to say, Tong Kee Chicken Rice is worth a return visit!

The Beast Smile Mar 08, 2015

Categories : American | Bars/Lounges | Burgers and Sandwiches

The Beast aim to serve classic Southern American cooking, with an extensive selection of craft beers and cocktails. They have indoor and outdoor seating at the ground floor, but it can be pretty squeezy, suitable for drinks and bites. Up to the 2nd storey, The Beast is able to accommodate more diners, but only indoor, and also the place where proper benches and tables are provided for the purpose of mains.

Love the interior design, creating the countryside ambiance with a tint of yellow lighting. Imagining yourself traveling through time and landed yourself in a cowboy environment and having a beer?

The Beast provides two types of dining menus, where dinner and bar menu are available from Mondays to Saturdays, while brunch menu only on Sundays.
Southern Sweet Tea ($7.00) and Freshly Squeezed Lemonade ($7.00). Southern Sweet Tea gives off a balanced sweet and refreshing taste on a hot weather, while the squeezed lemonade can be slightly too sour.

Cajun Fries ($8.00). Changing my taste from the usual truffle to Cajun fries, I have to admit I love Cajun fries more, where the sweet taste and little of spiciness invades my taste buds.
The Big Biscuit ($22.00). It consists of buttermilk biscuit, fried chicken, candied bacon, sunny side up, pimento cheese and sausage gravy. Candied bacon seems to be coated with a layer of honey, and overall tasted like the Chinese barbecued pork during the Chinese New Year but a little crispier, and fried chicken patty is juicy and tender.

Mac & Cheese Burger ($22.00). Basically a burger when buns are made of mac and cheese being fried, beef patty, bacon jam, barbecue sauce, lettuce, tomato and sweet potato fries. The "buns" are quite tasteless, and would be best to eat with the beef patty and sauce. Beef patty seems to be homemade which crumbles when cut but spills out the juice when bite.

Food wise, The Beast is actually more popular for their The Beast Burger which I believed costs around $125. While this is only available in the dinner menu, it consists of 1.6 pounds of beef patty, 1 pound of pulled pork, and 1 pound of buttermilk fried chicken. Looks intriguing, and I would definitely hop back to The Beast to challenge their The Beast Burger, but also not a bad idea to indulge myself back there with their other mains.

Ramen at Tsukada Nojo Smile Jul 09, 2014

Categories : Japanese | Sukiyaki/Shabu Shabu

Wanted to try out the hotpot for lunch during the weekday, and found out that hotpot is only valid during dinner on weekdays, and whole-day during the weekends! I came at the wrong timing sad Nevertheless, I went in despite the slight disappointment.

I actually went to two different branches on two separate days, but both branches gave me a very warm welcome with their Japanese greetings.
They do not have much variety, and perhaps ramen is the one to go for. Given only like 4 options for ramen, we had the Tori Nikomi Soba Shio ($16.80)and another was the Tori Nikomi Soba Spicy Hot ($16.80) ramen. You also get to choose between 3 types of noodle, such as thin egg noodle, rice noodle, and the thick mochi-mochi noodle.

As explained by the crew, the ramen soup is exactly the same used for their hotpot. Surprisingly, this was what we came for! Their collagen soup! But of course, hotpot would be a more sumptuous meal tongue Anyway, ramen came with the toppings placed on top of a "dish cover". Told by the crew (again), we should taste the soup first, before dropping the toppings in. I love the thick, creamy and flavorful collagen soup as it slid through my throat! Too bad they do not offer free-flow collagen soup.

Yong Kee Seafood Restaurant may not be easy to locate as it is at the edge of a conjuring junction between Dickson Road and Jalan Besar. For a more prominent building as a reference, it is opposite Sim Lim Tower.
One of their signatures, 沙律虾 - Prawns served with salad cream ($20.00 for small portion). Yong Kee Seafood Restaurant managed this dish by using honeydew shell as the serving bowl, and the fried prawns placed together with fruits, such as grapes and of course honeydew. I love their fried prawns as it is not too over-fried, and is chewy. Definitely a signature dish!

Another of their signature dishes, 三鲜豆腐 - Seafood Beancurd ($14.00). Instead of the round tofu used usually in the hotplate beancurd, Yong Kee Seafood Restaurant uses something like silken tofu, lightly fried the outer, and leaving the inside still soft yet firm. Thick gravy is nice to go with rice as well.
奶白菜 - Stir Fry Baby Cabbage ($10.00 for small portion). I have always loved this type of vegetable! Topped with mini shrimp which is quite a special idea, the crunchy stem and tender leafy made me go "wow" again!
排骨王 - Braised Prime Ribs ($10.00 for small). Sweet sauce and boneless ribs. Did they mention prime ribs? Meat is indeed tender and juicy!
