It's a steal Smile Apr 17, 2013

Food
It caught me by surprise to see Tavern Pub & Restaurant on groupon! Since I had a wonderful lunch during my last visit and we love this place alot, without much hesitation I bought a "$29.90 for 3-Course Fine Dining Set Lunch at The Tavern Pub & Restaurant (Worth $80). " for two person. It's a steal as the original lunch meal set costs $60.00 for each person.

Here's my hearty and savoury 3 courses meal x 2.

Hot breads were served while waiting for our main courses. Comes with a frozen butter/margarine and olive oil.

The Choice of appetizer are Greenland Shrimps 'Calypso' with Crunchy Green Mango OR Soup of the Day and we have both.

A little bit spicy wasabi taste like prawns paired with cherry tomatoes, slices of big tomatoes, cucumbers and some mangoes over it. It's awesome as a start!

Soup of the day is cauliflower soup. It tastes light, not too creamy and too vegetable and definitely suits our liking.

The given choice of main course are

Choice of Main Course
1) Grilled Australian Black Angus Ribeye Steak with Gratin Potato and Vegetables of the Day OR
2) Chicken Cordon Bleu with French Fries and Crisp Mixed Salad OR
3) Panfried Norwegian Salmon Fillet with Boiled Potato and Vegetables of the Day

and we have chosen the Ribeye steak and Salmon Fillet.

My portion of panfried Norwegian salmon fillet was well done. It is definitely worth waiting for! The taste and crisp at the outer layer tastes just alright and with the right amount of sweet lemon sauce adds ,my meal was make so complete.

Choice of beef is medium done as requested. This piece of ribeye was well cooked - tender and chewy. There is no issues cutting the meat apart with little force. Meat was juicy and taste are even. Simply divine!

Choice of desserts are
1) Crepe Normande OR
2) Chestnut Parfait

Crepe Normade is savoury. Diced tart apples were tuck in between the crepe. Also the crepe is covered with some lines of caramel designed by the chef.

The chocolate chip vanilla ice cream makes a perfect combination together with the crepe.

Even the lovely strawberry was designed, cut nicely and placed nicely at the side of the plate.

The Chestnut Parfait looks like strawberry over a piece of luncheon meat. Taste is light and not overpowering.

Tea and coffee as dessert. Their tea and coffee tastes different. Besides the usual little cup of condense milk a restaurant to pair with the hot beverages. They also provide sugars cubes which were rarely seen in most restaurant nowadays.

Service
Reservation were made easy via phone call with no hiccups.
The waiter were smartly dressed in suits. What impressed me most is that even we have dine in at special rates, our service was not discounted. They are still as professional as the good normal days.

Ambience
Great romantic meals under the warmly lit lightings in a gorgeous restaurant styled like a cosy European dining room.

Price
Since this is a groupon deal, it's a steal and it will be a very good chance who wants to do fine dinning at half the original price.

Recommendations / Tips
Reservations to be make before dinning.

Yogurt again Smile Apr 15, 2013   (Related Review)

Food
The flavour I had for Yami Yogurt is peach and sweet corn for saturday, topped with banana crunch this time round. Banana crunch taste was pretty standard. As for the sweet corn, there were not too much of taste from it or the peach's sourness taste had gotten hold of all my taste buds. No fragrance, no sweetness, nothing. Perhaps the combination is not that appropriate or matching, the next time round I will try ordering with a full cup of sweet corn.

Ambiance
As usual, I had my chat with my friend over the table tops to catch up some stories from her. Really love this place lots!

Service
I had the same service from the same young lady again since I visit Yami Yogurt every saturday. Overall my experience with her so far is a pleasant one!

Since I was rather early, I happen to see the cleaning process of the machine. The other lady had to drain all water out from another machine in order to put another two flavours in for the day.

Carrot Cake again! Smile Apr 12, 2013   (Related Review)

Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre

Food
The morning "tam jiak" appetite gave me the courage to queue up for "chai tow kway" (fried carrot cake) even though I know it will be very rush.

It's not easy to get hold of a packet of good fried carrot cake from clementi market and food centre on weekdays morning and even weekends. Look at the queue - the died hard fans of this carrot cakes stall.

With hands on his waist, this uncle seems to have waited for quite sometime and looks frustrated. tongue

$2.50 for the most fabulously awesome delicious black carrot cake! I gobbled down every single carrot cake/egg/chai poh that comes in the packet. Sinfully Yammy, yes! It is!

Service
The lady will take down customers' order in batch and writes down on her memo pad. Thereafter she will inform the uncle about the incoming orders. There are two woks to cater their incoming crowds, the lady will will help to prepare the carrot cake and place them properly in the wok for the start, then the uncle will take over and continue adding the rest of the condiments like the egg, chai po and black sauce.

I saw the uncle cracking 1 tray of 30 eggs into the big bowl using one hands. It was fast and looks professional. Salute his skills!

Ambience
Since alot of stalls are opened early in the morning, the food centre is often packed with people who are having their breakfasts and also not to forget the take away customers.

Price
Pricing matches the quantity and worth waiting for!

Recommendation / Tips
Same advice - Be early to avoid disappointment! smile

Snow Ice Smile Apr 11, 2013

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Restaurant | Chinese Desserts | Desserts and Cakes

Food
This awesome Chendol Snow ice costs $5.50. The cold and creamy desserts also known as shaved snow or xue hua bing had been in trend for quite sometime. The soft pile of snow ice is quite flavourful with coconut taste and having red beans, green jelly and attap seeds as the base which has the ingredients of a bowl of chendol. Sweet sugar syrup was sticky and had cover some portion of the snow. A great way to enjoy one's night over a bowl of cooling dessert at Ji De Chi.

Service
Service are fast and prompt as the turn over rates are high.

Ambience
You can always see that there are queues outside the stall and the workers' working pace are considerably fast in the Ji De Chi. Within one of 2 minutes the customers leave their table, they have the table cleared and clean up. Desserts are served promptly after your order was made.

Price
I believe the pricing is quite competitive and Ji De Chi has its own market positioning and reputation. Somewhere in the building, we have another desserts franchise and was closed down recently. When the franchise is active, there are no crowds outside the shop as compared to Ji De Chi.

Recommendations / Tips
There are number of snow ice flavours. They are all very tasty. I love the green tea flavour as well.

Good meal Smile Apr 08, 2013

Food
Ever since the news of Mr Lim's retirement broke up, the place has more queues than usual and parking was scarce. One can actually realized that the power of mass media is so great. It took us quite sometime to secure a 6 person seats. We have to squeeze in one small round table with neighbor table's chair blocking our way.

My first visit was like about 12 years back. In my all years of patronage, the taste of the food never fail us. If you read the reviews, the duck meat are as good as they said. This teochew style boneless braised duck meat with its scrumptious gravy had won many Singaporeans stomach and hearts over the years.

A plate soy sauce-based gravy flavored with cinnamon and other herbs and spices of duck meat shared by 6. This is the signature dish of all.

The way Mr Lim's prepare the food may appeared to be simple and ordinary but in fact is was way good than one expects. The meat are tender, even the rice smell good with the gravy.

Besides having the duck as the main, these are the dishes that we will order during my visit. The Toufu and kang kong with dried prawns (sambal kang kong). They may seems very simple dishes to us but these small dishes makes one feels very at home.

Service
The uncle who insist in speaking English looks the same, the way he speaks, the way he dressed, the way he total up one's bill in a dreaming manner, the dishes/drinks they offered has never changed. Everything you see, eat and feel the time had stop in the 1960s. We always get to laugh and giggle when they asked if we want duck "spare parts" when they are referring to internal organs of the ducks.

Ambience
Not fogetting that the rustic interior and exterior of Lim's Eating House has stayed the same through the years.

Price
The portion of may have shrink in size due to inflation but seems like the food goers will always come back once in a while to patronize the food and forget about the price hike.

Recommendation / Tips
They are closing and no intention of letting their children to take over. I will definitely miss a good teochew braised duck!
