12 March 2011 is the grand opening of Cold Stone Creamery at Orchard Central. Part of the crowds were at the Cozycot event while another group was actually queuing outside the shop. There even have a singer singing Lady Gaga's song on that day and if you are lucky enough to get chosen to sing/dance with her, you will get a discount.

We ordered a chocolate devotion (chocolate chips, brownie and fudge) and Strawberry Blone (Graham Cracker Pie Crust, Strawberries, caramel and whipped toppings. One ice-cream cost $9.90 and the waffle cost $1.

Took a video of the whole process of how the staff prepared the ice cream. They were all in high spirits and shouted cheers.

Tasted the ice-cream and felt that the waffle was not crispy enough and the strawberries were sour. The chocolate one was average only too.

Spotted this shop selling basically fries dipped in different sauces and some burgers. We were busy sampling with the different sauces but we still ended up buying the usual ones like BBQ sauce and Mayo and Onion. The sauce was not spread into the fries as shown in the photo but was instead packed separately into two small containers. The fries were not crispy but the potato taste is there. There was actually nothing fantastic about their fries. Perhaps we were not adventurous enough to try new flavous like chocolate, lemon curd or wasabi mayo etc and I think $3.90 for a cup of small fries is way too expansive.

Katong laksa not at katong OK Apr 13, 2011

Categories : Peranakan / Nonya | Hawker Centre

Who say Katong laksa can only be found at Katong? There's one at Queensway Shopping Centre. I love to eat katong laksa because it's easier to eat with a spoon. The white thick bee hoon is already cut into shorter pieces. Served with prawns, bean sprouts, fishcake, dried shrimp and cockles, it's a yummy dish to eat.

However, I felt that the standard of the laksa here have dropped. Usually there would be a big crowd surrounding the place but not today. I felt that the gravy is not as thick and creamy as before and they only gave me 3 small prawns for a medium serving. Thus I think overall is average only.

Duck rice in a Bamboo Steamer OK Apr 12, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Food Court | Brunch

Sometime, we have so many choice on our mind when it comes to food that it's kind of tiring to think what we want to eat. At days like this, I would usually just order a plate of rice with meat, be it chicken or duck or char siew as it would be the most common and easy item to order.

This HK Roast stall is the first stall that greets me the moment I stepped into the food fare so decided to eat this for dinner.

What is special about the presentation of their food is that they put the place of rice into a bamboo steamer. The bamboo steamer is commonly found in Dim Sum restaurants but not so much for chicken/duck rice.

I find the duck rice that I ordered of average standard. I would prefer those with dark sauce or some with yam rice. The soup doesn't go well with the rice too.

After walking in the air-conditioned shopping mall for too long, what I longed for is a bowl of hot piping soup. Decided to settle my lunch at Banquet with a bowl of You Mian aka handmade thin noodle.

Banquet is a Halal food court so it's not surprise to see almost all the cleaners and stall owners are Muslim. In term of cleanliness, they scored pretty well with an "A" sign posted on the wall.

I was so used to ordering in Chinese, so when this Malay lady asked me what I wanted I just point at the photo. I find that this stall is unique as not only do they served handmade noodles, they also have fish set with rice.

The price is slightly above average at $4 for a bowl of noodle in a food court.

As for the food, I think that they should cook the thin noodle longer as it's still kind of hard to chew. The soup have a weird taste and I don't really like their chili. Only the meat is tasty. So next time, I think I might not eat their handmade noodle again but might try their other dish like the fish set.
