Smooth century egg porridge Smile Nov 08, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hawker Centre | Porridge/Congee

When I want something simple and cheap, century egg porridge would come to my mind. Well-loved for its excellent texture, the smooth porridge is a delight to my taste buds. There is no need to add any more soy sauce or pepper as it's already flavorful as it is. It would be even more perfect if there is fried dough stick to go along with.

This giant Cantonese dumpling serves not as a dessert to me but as my dinner. This rice dumpling was stuffed with various ingredients like the Chinese black mushrooms, chunks of pork meat, roasted chestnuts and the salted egg yolk. Who say we should only eat rice dumpling during festival time? This is one delicious rice dumpling that can be eaten anytime, any day.

Halloween Rock Candy Smile Oct 31, 2011

Categories : Australian / New Zealand

Our Company holds a party in celebration of Halloween on the 31st Oct 2011 and every staff were given a packet of candy by Sticky! It's not any ordinary candies as this is hand-made with specific designs to suit the occasion. Since it's for Halloween, the candy pictures are related to this festival with pictures of ghost, bat, trick or treat on it. Their craftsmanship is great to be able to add in wordings and cartoons on such a small piece of candy. The candy is sweet and nice. I got to taste many different flavors and they are colorful too. It would make a perfect gift too.

Yakult Green Tea Smile Oct 28, 2011
Categories : Taiwanese | Bubble Tea/ Tea

This is another bubble tea shop that opens in Clementi some few months back. Beside the usual bubble tea that others shops are also selling, they also invented their own special drinks that suits Singaporeans. Flavours like Ovaltine, Wintermelon and even Yakult are quite the Singapore style. Not only that, their grass jelly and AI-Yu is hand made by themselves and does not contain preservatives. I picked yakult green tea for a very choice and also highly recommended by the guy working there. Yakult is well known for aiding in digestion and green tea is well known for detox. So when we add the two together it forms a great combination. I can taste the two different flavours distinctively and the pearls are chewy and nice too. Great. They also provide a recycling bin for the recyclable items like their brochure. This is a plus point as they help to keep the earth clean and green.

Located in the buzzling Clementi Food centre is this stall called Soon Lee selling Hainanese Porridge. Their porridge is a comfort food for me. For $2.50 (including egg inside) it's really tasty and value for money. They do not practice self-service as their porridge is all cooked on the spot upon order so required some waiting time. I waited for about 30 minutes before it was served to me, piping hot. The rice is boiled till disintegrated yet retaining the grainy texture. So it's not exactly the smooth type of porridge. Their pork meats are fresh and savoury which is also another factor why it attracts the crowds.

I must say that Soon Lee porridge is my choice of food when I felt that I have eaten too much oily food or during cold weather.
