Noodle with Soup. Smile May 10, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre | Noodles

This is other stall selling the same type of noodle with a bowl of soup at this food centre. I did not eat here long enough to know which is the ordinary stall but what i can do is to make a comparison between this stall and the other. I ordered the dry version.

Let's compare the soup first. The soup here came with those dried seaweed together with slices of fishcake, lean meat and pork liver. It had a poached egg too. The pork liver was in a thicker slice and tasted nicer but the soup was not hot enough so my egg was a little running.

The noodle was nice, the sauce based not as tomato-ish as compared to other stall but i prefer the soup from other stall. Again, the soup version is in a better demand.

I went there at about 1pm when they were about to close. If you happen to come by this food centre, you might want to try both stalls and make a comparison, too.

Coconut tarts! Smile Apr 25, 2011

Categories : Bakery | Hawker Centre

This is definitely one of the nicest coconut tarts that i ever had in Singapore. The best one was the one i had in Macau. No other comes close as yet but this one is good enough. I am always on the look out for good coconut tarts. smile

The tart has a distinct buttery taste with nice texture and the coconut filling was perfect, not overly sweet but fragrant. You can get 1 for $1.00 or 4 for $3.50.

I am interested to try their cheese tarts (4 for $5.00) and egg tarts (4 for $3.50) too. And, if you get 5 pieces you will get 1 for free. Good value for money snacks ideal for afternoon coffee break or breakfast.

I will definitely come back for more.

This is indeed one of the best Nasi Lemak that i ever eaten in Singapore. Honestly, i was rather skeptical initially but thought i should just try it since i happened to be here.

I wanted a chicken drumstick and fried egg but the Auntie recommended their otak too. She said, 'very warm and nice'. I decided to try it and i am glad i did as it is definitely not disappointing.

Rice and Chilli are always the 2 most important factors for good Nasi Lemak. Their rice has the wonderful fragrance of coconut with soft moist texture. The sambal chilli here is definitely one of the selling point too, it is nice and sweet, spiciness level is pretty mild but i do like it.

The chicken drumstick is huge and freshly fried, the skin still had its crispiness, very tasty and not oily too, it is good to even eat it on its own. I loved the fried egg, the egg yolk was still soft and flowing, not overcooked. Otak was good too, i could really taste pieces of real fish in it. I think i should try their fried fish next time, they even put up a signage saying, 'Guarantee No Lousy Fish' so i guess it must be really good. smile

The stall is located at an old coffee shop a stone's away from City Square Mall together with another stall selling nice oyster cakes.

Highly recommended.

Chinese style satays!

Chinese style satays!

The wonder of a bowl of such goodness!

The wonder of a bowl of such goodness!

One of the regular stalls for Satay when i stayed at West Coast area. And, this stall is one of the most popular stalls in this hawker centre thus the waiting time can be intense particularly during the dinner time and weekends.

This stall is owned by a chinese couple but trust me, the standard is equally good.

The satays made of the tender, juicy pieces of chicken thigh meat that has been well marinated to give its a full flavour and with the tenderness and juiciness still intact.

I enjoyed the chunk of peanuts in the thick peanut sauce. No word is able to describe the wonder of this small bowl of goodness. It was so good with slices of cucumber, satays or the rice cake.

I do not really like eating rice cake and that is the main reason for my reluctance to order longtong. But this rice cake happened to be one of the nicest that i have ever eaten, it was soft and nice unlike some others that i tried, some were really hard.

Delicious Duck Kway Teow Smile Apr 13, 2011

Delicious duck kway teow with good herbal soup

Delicious duck kway teow with good herbal soup

This is another famous stall in this food centre. This stall displayed quite a number of newspaper cuttings and there was a queue of 6 people. I usually see these as a sign of guarantee for good foods.

This stall is serving duck rice, kway chap and also duck kway teow or noodle. I was attracted by the big picture of duck kway teow / noodle right in front of me thus i decided to go with the duck kway teow. I went ahead to order the bigger portion at $4.00.

The serving of duck meat was fairly reasonable but they sliced it into rather small slices. I do prefer to have it in a bigger slices for better texture. The kway teow was smooth coated with a savory sauce. The soup was really good, it got a distinct herbal taste which i enjoyed thoroughly. Somehow, i do prefer the soup to my bowl of kway teow. lol

They do have fried shallots and chilli sauce available for your helping.
