Fried Yam Cake. Cry May 30, 2012

This was a disappointing piece of fried yam cake.

I can clearly smelled a rather strong taste of rancid oil when i held it near my nose. My first bite proven it. There was absolutely no taste of yam in this piece of fried yam cake. Or, perhaps the taste have been covered by the strong rancid oil taste? This stall offers other snacks as well but i do not think i would be trying them.

Vegetarian Handmade Noodle. Cry May 29, 2012

Categories : Coffeeshop | Vegetarian

There is always a constant queue right in front of this stall during lunch and dinner time so my expectation is set a little higher. This stall offers vegetarian version of laksa, wanton noodle, fish ball noodle, handmade noodle, mee hoon kuey etc. I decided to try the vegetarian handmade noodle for the first time. The noodle is priced at $3.00.

The portion was quite little. It served with vegetarian version of fish ball, meat and veggie in mushroom stock. The noodle got a really strong flour taste and i could not quite appreciate the taste of vegetarian fish ball and meat. I gotta leave the noodle unfinished together with the vegetarian fish ball and meat.

It was a disappointing dinner.

Another disappointment of the night.

I wanted something extra after the earlier disappointing experience. I decided to try this stall out for the first time. I ordered a piece of prawn fritter, a piece of ngor hiang, a piece of yam roll and a piece of spring roll for $4.00. All the items were re-fried before they served it. The prawn fritter has got a strong taste of flour. The ngor hiang did not taste too fresh. The spring roll tasted a little oily. The yam roll tasted just normal. The chilli sauce tasted fine though.

I am definite this is going to be the only experience.

Mee Goreng. Cry May 29, 2012

Perhaps i came at the wrong time, the taste of the Mee Goreng was quite a disappointment. I went during the dinner time, quite a few customers crowding in front of the stall either wanting to order or waiting for their orders. I waited for a bit to order and waited for a little while before i gotten it. Few of their customers including myself have ordered their Mee Goreng. It was fried together and served together to the few of us.

The noodle tasted a little overcooked with certain part tasted pretty hard. The 2 slices of cucumber served along with the noodle were cut in very big chunk.

It was a disappointing experience.

The Double Down Burger is one of the newest creation by KFC. The concept of having 2 pieces of meat patties to replace buns seemed a little crazy but definitely interesting. I have never been a fan and have not been to KFC for a while but this crazy burger prompted me to give it a go.

When i was at Hougang Mall on a particular evening, i decided i should try it. A set with the burger, the drink and mashed potato is priced at $6.90. The chicken patties were quite a disappointment. It tasted soggy and quite oily. The turkey bacon sandwiched between the 2 patties did not taste quiet like a piece of bacon but towards the taste of ham. The cheese did not melt nicely and it ended up to be a little overwhelmed. The entire experience was a challenging one.

The conclusion has to be the Double Down Burger is definitely not for me.
