Categories : Hawker Centre | Chicken Rice | Roasted Meat

It was a superficial plate of chicken rice, very passable taste with no surprises beneath. The rice tasted almost like plain rice and the texture was a little hard. The roasted chicken tasted boring too, the meat was a little too bland to my liking. The bowl of soup that served along with the chicken rice was lukewarm. A hot bowl of soup is always the nicest way to express sincerity towards the supports of its customer and getting them to come back for more. I did not like the chilli too. How interesting can the chilli be if it has no spiciness?

I can definitely get a better plate of chicken rice for $3.00 thus i am definite this is going to be an one time off experience.

Not recommended.

Ordered a Lotus Root & Pork Ribs Soup without rice for $3.50.

First sip of the soup proven to be quite a disappointment. The soup had almost no taste of lotus root nor pork ribs. Next, the meat of pork ribs were rather tough. I suppose it did not cook long enough. Timing is an important factor of a good double boiled soup. No matter how much ingredients used but if the timing did not get it right then it is still gonna be a failure. That applied to this particular Lotus Root & Pork Ribs Soup.

I am definite this is going to be an one time off experience.

The disappointing Spring Roll.  Cry Oct 14, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hawker Centre

This is another stall that moved from the closed Margaret Drive Hawker Centre to here. I recognised the old signboard right away. I used to be buying you tiao, butterfly buns, the sweet and the salted sesame buns from them too. Their business seemed to be a little quiet here unlike the good old days over at the Margaret Drive Hawker Centre.

When i was there at about 3.30 pm, most of the items were about to be sold out. If i remember correctly, they used to operate till late evening over at other side. I decided to get the lonely spring roll, it was the only one left on the shelve.

My first bite was an disappointment. There was an unpleasant rancid taste lingered in my mouth. The filling was of turnips and bean sprouts wrapped in a soggy skin. I should have stick to butterfly buns or the sesame buns perhaps then i might not be disappointed.

I might be back to give it a second chance someday.

Sardine Puff. Cry Oct 03, 2011
Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre

And to make up for my disappointing lunch earlier, i went looking for a light snack. Spotted this stall and ordered a sardine puff for 0.50 cents.

Apparently, the sardine puff is another disappointment. Firstly, the skin was rather thick and chewy. Secondly, the filling made up of more onions and hardly any sardine. I left it unfinished.

I never like to waste food but sometimes, i am left with no choice.

You might want to try their Nasi Lemak or Mee Rebus but for Sardine Puff, not recommended.

This stall has been flying their kway teow without the pork lards and topped with lots of veggies for the past 20 years.

Now, the question. Do you want a plate of healthy fried kway teow with no pork lards but lots of veggies or a plate of delicious yet sinful fried kway teow fried with pork lards?

Honestly, i am quite skeptical in trying a plate of fried kway teow with lots of veggies and no pork lards. There was a long queue right in front of this stall that prompted me to try. This stall was featured once in a TV programme and there was quite a few pieces of news clippings displayed too. This seemed to be a popular stall in serving a so called healthier version of fried kway teow.

I joined in the long queue and waited for about 20 minutes to give my order. I waited for a little while longer before i gotten my plate of 'green' fried kway teow. It was my first experience in having such a plate of fried kway teow.

My first mouthful of fried kway teow with the veggies was quite a disappointment. No, i did not like it. It tasted odd. I could not quite associate with the taste of such a plate of fried kway teow. It might be healthy but the taste is definitely not appealing. I do not know how to appreciate it.

It was supposed to fry with preserved radish (chye poh) but there was no slight taste of it. Perhaps this stall was trying hard to cope with the number of increasing customers during this peak hour thus neglected the quality somewhat? The veggies tasted a little too raw and hard to my liking, too.

I would rather eat a good sinful plate of fried kway teow once in a while rather than having such a healthier plate of fried kway teow often.

You might want to give it a try to decide for yourself whether you like it or not and then tell me about it.
