Fried beancurd skin roll. Cry Aug 30, 2011

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Hawker Centre | Dim Sum

I was looking for something extra to overcome the earlier disappointment caused by the not so nice zhui kuey.

This stall offers different type of tim sum and bao. I wanted something light so i opted for the fried beancurd skin roll. First bite was proven to be yet another disappointment. It got a taste of rancid oil and the edge was burnt slightly. The filling was a little minced meat with a small piece of prawn, tasted pretty bland though.

I might just give other tim sum or bao a try next time but would happily skip this fried beancurd skin roll for good.

Disappointing experience.  Cry Aug 30, 2011

Business was rather quiet for this stall during the busy lunch hour on a public holiday. I was looking for something extra thus i decided to get a little something. I settled for 4 pieces of zhui kuey for $1.20. A little pricey. I could easily get 4 pieces for $1.00 at the famous zhui kuey stall. I would not mind to pay a little extra for a better quality or service though.

First bite proven to be a disappointment. The texture of the zhui kuey was a little harder and firm. The preserved radish was another disappointment, it has little fragrant and no level of saltiness. The sambal chilli tasted a little burnt.

It was an absolutely disappointing experience.

Instant white coffee? Cry Aug 30, 2011
Categories : Hawker Centre

It got a signage stating 'White Coffee Available Here'. It somewhat reminded me of the aromatic white coffee that i had when i visited Penang.

I decided to order it. The auntie asked me whether i prefer to have a bigger cup or a smaller one. I told her i wanted a bigger cup. And what happened next amazed me, i saw her torn open a 3-in-1 white coffee sacket and poured it into the glass then poured in the hot water, stirred it a little and presented it to me for 0.90 cents.

First sip of this instant white coffee disappointed me. It tasted very diluted with little coffee taste. My choice of that particular brand of instant white coffee at home can easily beat this glass of white coffee hands down. Lesson learnt. I will have a second thought if i came across another stall selling white coffee next time.

Not recommended.

I am still in search for good Penang fried kway teow in Singapore. For those that i have tried so far have been quite disappointing including this particular one.

At least this one got the spiciness that distinctly differentiate it from the local style fried kway teow. it was fried with cockle, bean sprouts, egg and 2 pieces of prawns but the cockles were a little overcooked. I got the impression that the authentic Penang fried kway teow does not fried along with cockles. And, the ultimate turn off was the stone like thingy found amidst the fried kway teow.

Anyway, this particular one did not meet my expectation thus this is going to be yet another one time off experience. You can give it a try if you have never try the real thing in Penang but if you do then you can forget about this stall.

No word is good enough to describe how disappointing can this tub of lotus root pork ribs soup be. I am a superb fan of different type of soups and this particular one was one of the worst lotus root pork ribs soups that i have ever tasted so far.

This soup tasted rather bland with only a very slight lotus root taste. I wonder how can this be a double boiled soup if the soup was such tastelessness? A good thing was the pork ribs were rather soft served along with quite a few pieces of lotus root. No matter, i am very sure this is going to be another one time off experience.
