Categories : Hawker Centre | Bubble Tea/ Tea

I was delighted to spot a stall serving different types of taiwanese style bubble tea in this food centre. I took notice of a few customers visited this stall so i guess it must be worth a try as this is not one of those newest stalls there.

The selection was pretty extensive. The stall was manned by a friendly young lady then. She waited patiently for me to make selection. I made up my mind to go with the Number 4 drink listed on their menu board. It is a Passionfruit Tea served with Nata de coco. I was asked whether to go with a medium ($2.00) or large cup ($2.50). I actually wanted the medium cup but was served the large cup later. Perhaps she did not hear me clear enough and thus there was a messed up. I did not attempt to collect it though but accepted the large cup of drink.

I took a sip but was a bit turned off by the overpowering sourness though i have indicated that i want it at a 100% sugar level. Those bits of nata de coco were a pretty addition as it has got a delightful chewiness that added fun to enjoying this drink.

The prices of most of the drinks on their menu board are slightly cheaper than those chain of bubble tea outlets out there. This particular drink would have been a good selection if my order has gotten right.

This drink stall is still somewhat an exciting choice in this food centre.

This is another newest stall in this food centre. I was there when they were about to close and so i left with a rather limited selection. The stall offers different type of steamed dishes to go with rice at the range of $3.50 to $5.00. I wanted the Steamed Meat with Lotus Root for $3.50 and a bowl of white rice for $0.50. It was took out from the steamer then served. The stall has already closed when i went back to take a picture of it.

A rather big portion of the steamed meat was served with bits of lotus root embedded in it with another piece placed right on top. It was garnished with chopped spring onion.

The steamed meat was lightly seasoned though it was served with a pool of soya sauce but it did not taste as salty as expected. I would think this is a healthy selection as the overall taste was rather light and might not be appealing to some. The texture of the steamed meat was done just right to give it the desired softness.

Both the steamed meat and lotus root went well with the fluffy white rice.

A bowl of cabbage and carrot soup was served along. The taste was equally light though with a slight taste of the cabbage.

A value for money choice for lunch if you happen to be in this food centre.

Coffee & Toasts for Breakfast. Smile Nov 14, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Hawker Centre

This is one of the newest stalls in this food centre. And, there was a queue of few people when i went for lunch.

These people were queuing up for their coffee and toasts. It just got me to wonder what is so special about their coffee and toasts? I noticed it has stated on their signboard that they grind the coffee powder on the spot.

I observed the elderly Uncle took out the coffee beans from a container underneath the counter and threw it into the Coffee Grinder right behind him. He waited for the coffee beans to grind into the powder and collected it from the container that he placed slightly underneath the Coffee Grinder. He was then threw it in the traditional coffee pot then poured in the water and stirred for a bit. Next step was to filter out the coffee grounds using the coffee sock.

The coffee is then served in a traditional way by using the warm porcelain cup with saucer. He then prepared it by putting in the condensed milk and sugar into the porcelain cup. He poured the coffee and the hot water in at the same time. He then served it to me. My order of thick toasts was prepared at the same time by the lady.

My coffee was served in a porcelain cup that got their stall name printed on. The strong undeniable scent of coffee was simply irresistible. First sip. The coffee has got a perfect balance of coffee powder, the condensed milk and the sugar coupled with a slight bitterness. I would think this was a good cup of hainanese style coffee that has done right. It is reasonably priced at $1.

The freshly prepared Butter Kaya Toast paired with the coffee perfectly. The toasted were lightly toasted then applied a layer of Kaya before placed the cut pieces of butter on it.

It was then covered by another piece of toast and cut into 2 pieces.

The butter was nicely melted. The Kaya has got just the right level of sweetness to complement. The toasts are priced at $1 too. They serve the coffee / tea, toasts and 2 half boiled eggs as a set for $2.70.

An good choice for a simple yet enjoyable breakfast.

Fishball Mee Pok. OK Nov 13, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre | Noodles

This was one of the stalls with no queue when i was there for lunch. I went ahead with a bowl of mee pok tar for an affordable price of $2.50.

This was a basic bowl of mee pok that came with a few slices of fishcake, 2 fishballs and a fish dumpling. The portion of mee pok was good for a light lunch.

The mee pok was cooked well to give it the desired springiness and right softness. The level of spiciness was pretty mild. It would definitely be nicer if is slightly spicier. The overall taste was rather mediocre but it was slightly enhanced by the bits of fried pork lards added. The handful of beansprouts added was a good addition too.

A worthy consideration for a quick lunch.

Mini Apple Crumble. OK Nov 12, 2013

Categories : Bakery

Those pieces of mini Apple Crumble in the display fridge had my attention when i was in the queue for the Hainanese Curry Rice next door. It is much smaller in size and for only 0.80 cents each. I was definitely tempted so ended up getting quite a few to go.

The friendly assistant recommended their freshly baked walnut cake. She said it is only available during weekends but i was a bit too full for that so i told her i will try it next time.

This mini Apple Crumble is an interesting find as it is not commonly available in such a neighborhood bakery.

It has got the baked apple filling and topped with the crumble mixture served in a crisp crust. It was then scattered with bits of powdered sugar to complete.

This was a simple yet tasty treat and i enjoyed it.
