Good Peranakan food though pricey Smile Apr 18, 2013

Categories : Malaysian | Peranakan / Nonya

Coming from a Peranakan family, as and when we go to a Peranakan restaurant, you can be sure that whenever my family heads out to have Peranakan food at any eatery, the food will be scrutinised and compared to what we have at home. Of course home-cooked meals are the best, but the fare t Pera-Makan comes pretty close! We ordered the Ayam Buah Keluak, Itek Siow, Chap Chye, Ayam Kepiting, Hee piow soup. Pricey but good.

Lovely little French restaurant Smile Apr 18, 2013

Finally! A place with good French food in central location! The interior of the restaurant is pretty dim, so no chance of you reading a book while waiting for your date! But the ambiance here is a very relaxing one. I had the Lobster Bisque and would have preferred some lobster meat in it. Perhaps I’m just not used to having it with the mini prawns which accompanied the dish. The Duck Confit was perfect; the skin was crisp and the meat was moist and tender. This is just the place to enjoy romantic meal.

The Best Steak Ever! Smile Apr 18, 2013

This is one of the best places to have a steak. It’s very pricey (you’re looking at $90 and above for a steak) but it is absolutely worth it! The done-ness of the meat is to the tee and you will be hard pressed to find fault with their succulent, juicy meats! Their portions are huge but if you’re with a group of friends or feeling rather ravenous, try their macaroni and cheese side dish, you won’t regret it! If you’re on a tight budget, go for their Happy Hour in which you can enjoy their famous steak sandwiches for free while you sip on margaritas!

Different fare, yummy udon Smile Apr 18, 2013

Went there to celebrate a friend’s birthday. I found the menu slightly different from the other mid-price ranged Japanese restaurants in Singapore. For one, I got to try this miso marinated fish which was being grilled on a special leaf…it was FANTASTIC! The taste was so unami and the flavour of the miso was strong. The udon portions are big and truly hit the spot especially if you’re hungry! Their dry cold soba was a hit with the group too!

Brought my parents there over the weekend, my father is fan of Roast Pork Belly and he enjoyed the dish there tremendously. Pity that it was rather pricey for the portion…there couldn’t have been more than 9 or 10 small cubes of roast pork on the plate, and it cost $12.80. The other dim sum was good, I enjoyed the hao kao and siew mai. The century egg congee was very light and tasty.
