Astons Smile May 23, 2011

Categories : Steaks and Grills

There is always a long queue seen at The Cathay's Astons.
The reason? Astons offers nice and affordable western food!

$6.90 for a chicken main course and two side dishes.
They have a wide variety of chicken for you to choose:
Changrill, Black pepper, Crispy fried, Hickory BBQ, Teriyaki and Lemon Lime.
The side dishes?
Hot side dishes: Tasty rice, French fries, Onion rings, Baked bean, Baked potato, Corn and Garden veggie
Cold side dishes: Coleslaw, Potato salad, House salad, Pasta salad
I tried their Black pepper steak before(only $11.90!!),
but i feel that their chicken are better. Tender and juicy.
If you are a big eater, order double up chicken($10.90)!
You get two pieces of chicken instead of one.
My favorite is Hickory BBQ chicken with their huge serving of potato salad, and also their garden veggie(buttered broccoli with baby carrot)
And i just have to mention, the malay manager at this outlet provides great service!
Thumbs up!

All price are inclusive of GST and there is no service charge(:
(The only thing is that they charged 30cents for ice water)

Recommended Dish(es):  Hickory BBQ chicken, Lemon lime chicken

Spending per head: Approximately $8(Dinner)

Categories : Shanghainese

They have 5 kind of appetisers for you to choose from:
Braised Bamboo shoot, Tofu with century egg, lotus roots slices, fungus with celery and cucumber.
The cucumber is very refreshing and crunchy, and the lotus root slice is refreshing and crunchy with a little sour taste. Very appetising(:

The Xiao Long Bao is not bad!
They offered other bun too, like Char siew bun and fried man tou.
But Xlb is definitely the most popular one!!!

My personal favourites for this steamboat: Xlb, Lamb slices with ma la soup(MUST TRY),the real fresh and sweet prawn, luncheon meat with ma la soup, mushrooms in the corn& pig bone broth and their gui hua jelly(i like the blend taste with the light flower fragrance)

Desserts: Beancurd in brown sugar syrup, red bean jelly and gui hua jelly.
(Drinks are included, you get to choose either coke or barley drink)

The steamboat buffet is definitely worth the money!!!!!
Do remember to make reservations early to avoid disappointment(:

Recommended Dish(es):  Xiao long bao, Gui hua jelly, prawns, Lamb slices, ma la broth

Spending per head: Approximately $23(Dinner)

Strictly pancakes OK Apr 26, 2011
Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

Finally went down to try Strictly Pancakes after reading many of their reviews on magazines.
Their business seems to be real good, all their indoor seats have been taken up, only outdoor seats are available when my friends and I arrived.
So we decided to wait for the indoor seats. ( Outdoor is fine if you don't mind the weather and the insects)

I got so excited by just looking at the menu, they offer a wide range of pancakes.
I really feel like trying everything on the menu and can't decide on what to order.
Initially i wanted to order Pancake with Garlic Buttered Prawn, because i saw a lady ordering it and it looks great. However the lady did not finish her food, there was around 3/4 of her food left. Thus i decided to try something else instead, the tempting description on the menu(pancakes stuffed with potatoes, cheese and leek served with sauteed mushrooms) lure me to try Potatoes Leeking Cheese($12)

However i was kind of disappointed with their potatoes leeking cheese.
It doesn't give me the SURPRISE! feeling( the surprise here means stuffings of potatoes and cheese oozing out).
It was like ohh normal pancakes with a light cheese and leek taste.

My friend ordered Bananas-Scotched($11), it was quite nice.
Generous serving of banana and maple syrup.

Mix and match time!
You get to choose the size of the stack, 2,3 or 4 pieces of pancakes.
Then choose the butter(salted, unsalted, garlic and herb , rum and raisin)
and add on scrambled egg, mushrooms, bacons, etc to the stack!

Overall, a wide range of pancakes available to choose from.
Pancakes taste normal, but i will definitely dine at SP again to try
the other desserts pancakes!

Spending per head: Approximately $14(Breakfast)

Porridge Smile Apr 16, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Food Court | Zi Char | Fine Dining | Brunch

Their porridge is recommended!

They have a wide variety of porridge; like fish porridge, pork porridge, century egg porridge, salted egg porridge etc.
My favourite is the 'San se' porridge or three colours porridge(direct translate)
It contains three different types of eggs: normal egg, salted egg and century egg.
Not too watery, taste further enhanced by the spring onions and fried shallots.

Recommended Dish(es):  San se porridge

Spending per head: Approximately $4(Lunch)
