Fragrant Spicy Prawns! 香辣蟹! Smile Apr 30, 2011

Categories : Shanghainese

Are you a fan of spicy food? I am! These days have been trying out new spicy dishes from China with so many interesting outlets popping up. If you are a keen adventurer when it comes to food, don't miss the Fragrant Spicy Prawns! 香辣蟹 at Song Ji Steamboat/Spicy Crab. This has to be the one of the best dish the Shanghainese restaurant offer. It's too numbingly spicy but spicy enough to keep you pinching into the dish for more prawns! Be sure to order the fermented rice wine with dumplings too. It's a very unique dish which I also also tried in Shanghai. Taste similar here. So I guess Song Ji is a pretty good choice if you want to try some Shanghai dishes! lol

Suckiest Restaurant Ever Cry Apr 30, 2011

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Restaurant | Desserts and Cakes | Noodles

EWWWW you will never believe what happened. The staff is TOTALLY CLUELESS. Went here with a group of 8 to celebrate a colleague's birthday over lunch. We told a waitress to keep the birthday cake and serve it later after we are done with the main courses upon cue. What supposed to turn out as a surprise for the birthday girl, became a surprise for ALL OF US. She came out with the cake still in the box and plastic bag. shocked Have never experienced such a dimwitted service before. HELLO, we said SERVE not DELIVER. Come on, I've celebrated birthday at countless restaurant before and NONE ever done such stupid mistake. Geez. When we ask her to take the cake back and SERVE IT. She gave a blank look, expecting us to take the cake > put it on the table > eat it from the box.

Yes. no clean plates were given. AND WORST THING. they took no initiative to clear the table. I have a very pretty picture of the uncleared table on my side. huffy

Why on earth are we paying for service tax if the staff is totally clueless???

Next, manager was not around to handle the situation. Cashier said "oh, we didn't dare to serve as our restaurant is still pending the HALAL certificate so we do not wish to serve the cake as it may not be halal." LAME EXCUSE which my malay collague (who was not so pissed) stood up and said "What kind of nonsense are you talking about? you mean the cake is not halal? Fourleaves is not HALAL?"

CONCLUSION: DON'T VISIT THIS DIMWITTED RESTAURANT WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND EVEN THE BASICS OF CUSTOMER SERVICE AND YET CHARGES SERVICE TAX.

on a side note. their food sucks too. BLUEK

Pretty Little Cakes OK Apr 30, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop

I like how Toastbox created a relaxing café ambiance with vintage decorations and little accents such as wooden rocking horse and even a piano! Explains why people love to just hang around there with a cup of coffee/tea and a maybe a toast or cake to go with their drink. I had a strawberry cake which looked really pretty with a cup of milk tea. It was OK. Not too sweet but I guess the pretty appearance of the cake makes it taste better than it should had. smile

First thing that to do when I visit IKEA is to stop for an IKEA $1 hot dog!!!! Quality is definitely above average (soooo much better and CHEAPER than those you find at pasar malam that is horribly oily!) as you can expect to get a big hot dog for just 1 DOLLAR. These springy, flavoursome wieners are delicious! It’s the greatest value snacks ever!!!

So-so only OK Apr 30, 2011

Categories : Hainanese | Food Court | Chicken Rice

Was super hungry so came over to Koufu for some rich dishes with a friend. We ended up ordering quite a feast for 2 at GW Chicken Rice & Noodles. We had char siu, roasted chicken, steamed chicken and braised egg. Price is reasonable but taste was so-so only. Meat was fine but the rice is not quite fragrant. In a nutshell, I find nothing special about this stall but its offerings did well in filling the tummy.
