Garage-Vintage themed cafe  OK May 12, 2015

A vintage garage thematic Brunches Cafe has finally sprung up into the cafe scene in Singapore. Located along the stretch of Rangoon Road with several other cafes sit Brunches Cafe clothed in a dark mysterious outlook but opens door to a warmly lighted cafe featuring vintage car or car boot as seats, hanging mini wooden houses as lighting and rustic wooden furniture. Effort and love from the bosses can be felt through all the details and decorations in the cafe.

Decent extensive choice of food varying from brunches, mains, sides, coffee and desserts for a cafe environment.

Innovative idea of using the mini cooper car’s front to contain all the condiments and menu and the car seats as dining area.

Another interesting set of seating arrangement.

After waiting for 20 minutes or so, finally here comes our 2 mains – Steak & Egg ($19.50) and Creamy Egg Frittata ($12.50). I find the food much disappointing. Despite ordering medium for my steak, it somehow turn out to be medium well and it’s kind of tough and chewy. Scrambled eggs on the other hand was rather creamy and runny but it kinds of lack some flavor and lustre. Sauteed mushrooms tasted just like mushroom without much intended punch from any seasonings. Egg Frittata tasted similar to that of an omelette but in a muffin shape. I find it baked to a tad to dry for my liking. But some worth mentioning points for the brunches, is that you can choose your choice of toast from wholemeal, sourdough and white and i love the sweetness and juiciness of the grilled tomato.

This was a pleasant gesture from the boss of the cafe. She served us this complimentary chilled berries cheesecake as a make up for the long waiting time for our food. This cheesecake was not yet in the menu, but it tasted real good. Not too sweet, flavor was light with berries taste.

Overall, the cafe has the ambiance, but much improvements are needed to their food if they want returning customers.

Chewy Chunky Ice-Cream Smile Feb 08, 2015

Another ice cream parlor that has joined the stretch along North Bridge Road is none other than Twenty Grammes! A humble, neat and clean environment that's welcoming for an afternoon tea.

A menu filled with varieties of coffee, tea and desserts available in store. Alternatively, there's some cakes on display too. They are rather yummy looking and appetizing!

& their wide range of bold ice cream flavors! The ice cream have pretty unique texture, quite different from the usuals i would say. Unlike the creamy, rich, smooth ice-cream, most of them are mixed with mochi or some bits and chips within, so they are kind of chewy and chunky. But it may get a little too tiring from chewing and the taste may get a little too ge-lard.

My choice of ice cream Triple C & Mango Tango. Triple C consist of caramel and chocolate with bits and pieces of chocolate crunch. Overall flavor is well-blended together and not too overwhelming. On the other hand, for Mango Tango, it is pretty fruity tasting but lean a little towards the sweeter side. Not too bad a choice for some ice cream treats when i'm passing by it the next time!

Ice cream Pitstop Smile Nov 28, 2014

Another ice cream parlor right in the heart of town, located just opposite National Library sits Rabbit Owl Depot. They specialize in handcrafted ice cream made from fresh ingredients with a couple of coffee and tea selections. It’s definitely a good place to chill out after some shopping or a meal in the near vicinity, an alternative to the usual Tom’s Palette.

They do sell some cookies packs that are nicely packaged and of reasonable pricing to give away as gifts. Prices ranges from $2.90 to $5.50. R.O.D’s ice cream selection consists of regular and premium flavors. Premium flavors at an additional of $1. Some of their specialty includes sea salt caramel and hazelnut crunch.

Snowflake waffle with 2 scoops of ice cream ($14.50): Pretty snowflake-like waffle topped with icing sugar and maple syrup. Crispy with light fluff but a little tad too sweet. Roasted pistachio had a good aroma but too overwhelming roast aftertaste to my liking. Hazelnut rocher on the other hand is smooth with chocolatey hazelnut and finishes with rocher in taste. The pieces of rocher chocolate gives the ice cream an overall crunch.

In short, this place is awesome for a dessert break! I’ll definitely want to go again for their ice cream platter and try out the other flavors in store.

decent food for the price! Smile May 25, 2014

I was totally stranger to this restaurant till i saw a deal on groupon.sg. Before buying, i tried to google about this restaurant for any recommendations and reviews but it’s quite limited. So thinking it looks not bad, and decided to just buy the $20 for $40 voucher. Milagro is located in Orchard Central. OC is actually quite empty and quiet and never will i know Milagro existence in OC unless i see it being promoted or recommended somewhere. Milagro is actually located at level 8 on the left side of the lift lobby which tends to be neglected if we are not observant as most food shops are actually located on the right side. The price is decent, there’s no GST & Service charge and neither is the food quality nor quantity too bad. It’s just a simply decorated restaurant with view of overseeing The Centrepoint mall. Also, it has been only around for i think 2-3 months and probably thats why, it is still quite empty on a weekend night.

They served quite a variety of appetizers, mains, drinks and desserts. We ordered Croquette de Gambaa ($7), Solomillo Iberico ($26), Paella De Marisco ($15/portion) and hand press churros ($5). Croquette de Gambaa is breaded fried mashed potatoes with bits and pieces of prawns. Its creamy and a lil cheesy within. Solomillo Iberico is grilled tenderloin of iberico pig served with the salads and mashed potatoes. The tenderloin is good and really tender! But probably if you wanna try more of other dishes, then you can probably give this a miss. For $26, you can probably order another 2 main dishes or some other appetizers, as you can probably get this dish at similar restaurants for around the same price too. Paella De Marisco is good for the price, the rice is cook to perfection not too dry or moist and every mouth of rice you put it into your mouth, you can taste the seafood flavour. It’s quite rich in flavour and they are generous with the seafood! Literally a 50:50 seafood : rice! But the seafood may be a little dry. Other than that, is still quite a delightful dish! Not the best but worth a try! And we ended our meal with churros! The churros is drizzled with chocolate sauce. Its crisp on the outside with sugary, cinammon-y taste. Thumbs up for it! & The friendly staffs has definitely make our dining experience a good one!

Nostalgic Chinese Flavors Smile Apr 24, 2016

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Restaurant | Dim Sum | Seafood

Yum Cha has opened its first door in Chinatown away from the hustling city life many years back and now i’m back there for their Mother’s Day Menu Special. Imagine a picturesque of servers busily pushing carts of fresh, piping hot, mouth watering, delicately made dim sum delicacies right to your table or a busy scene of taking orders from the customers. Yes, that’s what you see when you’re at Yum Cha. That aside, everyone know Mother’s Day is just round the corner, wrecking your brain to see where you can bring your mum to for a sumptuous meal? Here's your answer!

(Mother’s Day Special) Braised Pork with Preserved Vegetables Bun ($2/pc) – A good balance of fats and meat with savoriness from preserved vegetables wrapped with warm and soft steamed bun. All is good but for a thin film of coat at the exterior of the bun that was a little off the usual softness.

(Mother’s Day Special) Pan Fried Salted Fish Bun ($5/3pcs) – With bottom of the bun seared to golden brown and flavorful filling made from salted fish paste and minced meat. Overall taste is light but with a distinct salted fish note. Definitely suit the palette of a salted fish lover.

(Mother’s Day Special) Almond Tarts ($3.20/3pcs) – Filled the core with sweet almond custard against the soft, flaky crusty tart. The custard is brimming with sweet almond flavor. It can be served chilled or warm.
Beside having to taste the special menu for Mother’s Day, we get to savor some of Yum Cha ala carte and dim sum dishes too!

Signature Salted Egg Prawns – This was a total hit for the night! Unlike the typical golden salted egg yolk prawn, Yum Cha has taken another innovative approach of incorporating the aroma and flavor of the salted egg yolk to the deep fried prawns.Loving how the freshness and sweetness of prawns is preserved yet with traces of salted egg scents and flavors.

Black Pepper Beef with Lotus – Tender beef slices that were extremely soft and well soaked up in the black pepper sauce makes it a good dish to go with rice! It will be much better if the lotus chips are a little more crispier!

Fried Carrot Cake – The perfect texture of crispy on the exterior, moist and soft on the interior.

Crispy Fried Beancurd – Another highlight of the night! Made up of 7 different flavor blend of ingredients as the dry mix gave the fried beancurd a sweet, salty and spicy flavor to it. A very interesting taste to the taste buds. A bite into the fried beancurd, sinks your teeth into a cube of piping hot, soft and smooth melts in your mouth seafood tofu! Indeed a delightful tofu creation.

Fried Vermicelli Seafood – Vermicelli filled with strong wok hei aroma and generous serving of succulent seafood consisting of scallops, prawns and fish slices. Perfect ending dish to a series of dim sums! Here the dim sum menu for dinner at a glimpse! Look forward to their ala carte dishes too, it will not disappoint you either. To sum up all, most of the dishes at Yum Cha are lighter tasting, and thus there will always be room for more!
