Decided to try out Maple & Market after seeing all the photos on instagram. Its quite a small area. They literally only have 1 proper table, and the remaining are like bar tables. The whole place is partitioned into 2 sections, 1 is the baking corner where there’s baking class ongoing and another is the cafe corner. They do sell interesting things such as printed mugs with very singaporean slangs, and some old school bottled drinks. They also sell paper products for parties usage or art craft purposes.
We ordered the buttermilk waffle with caramelized banana homemade caramel & walnut ($9) and Chocolate peanut cake ($5.50) and the ancient bottled drinks ($6/bottled)! The drinks are from New Zealand by the way. The drinks are quite fizzy. Feels bloated after drinking half the bottle. The buttermilk waffle goes really well with the caramelized bananas and walnut. Sweet caramel, soft bananas, crunchy walnut. the waffles are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, best when eaten hot! I find the chocolate peanut cake a bit too grainy and dry for the chocolate cake portion. But overall peanut does goes well with chocolate! However, there’s too many dessert cafes around now, so probably there’s nothing special that will make me go back for the second time. The service isnt too fantastic too

Poteato is nestled in Tiong Bahru together with some other cafes nearby. Second trip to Poteato! Their design revolves around brick and cement with a touch of modern. Previously only get to try their matcha tofu cheesecake and seeing their menu decided i should come back to try their mains one day! But quite disappointed that they changed their menu (top right hand corner). There’s less variety and more expensive now. ):
Ordered their poteato dippers to try ($10). The description was crisp potatoes skin with salsa and cheese dips. So in my mind, i was like is it literally potatoes skins only?! That will be quite funny, $10 for just the skins. But yup, its actually like wedges but the ‘healthier; version as its really cut pieces from potatoes. Good for sharing as its really filling. Overdose of carbo. Not too oily though, crisp outer skin with soft inner potato flesh.
As there’s really limited choices, so the mains that we ordered were only Teriyaki Grilled Salmon ($17) & Cheesy Melt Beef Burger ($21). The Teriyaki Grilled Salmon is served with mashed potato and asparagus. Thick and rich teriyaki sauce that was a lil too overpowering and i find it a little salty. But overall, it has that jap flavour i feel. So on my very first trip there, i tried their tofu cheesecake and a cup of hot lemon tea. Trying tofu cheesecake for the first time, was refreshing, and i find the taste quite light. It’s like an alternative choice to the usual cheesecake. Its not as rich as the usual cheesecake. Got the combination of mashed up tofu mouthfeel with dense cheesecake feel. To sum up, probably after a change of menu and prices, will not want to go again.

Decided to check LaMarelle before our musical. Both cousin and I were attracted to the decorations of the cafe. Look at the exterior and stairway to the shop itself! Isnt it beautifully decorated? It feels like you’re back to the 80s. Those printed paper lanterns and paintings on the wall.
So beside being just a cafe, it actually sells La Marelle products ranging from stationary, bags, cards, accessories and more. They have a second upper deck too!
They sell a range of desserts, mains and drinks.
The food is not very fantastic in general. I’ve ordered a mochaccino ($5.50) which is cappuccino with chocolate. Its not to my liking, could not really taste the chocolate, quite bitter and the foam is a lil too much compared to outside cappuccinos. It filled almost half of the cup. Then we ordered German Croissant ($12.90++) and French Classic Croissant ($12.90++). Both croissants are stuffed with scrambled eggs and salads together with nachos and salsa on the side. The beef bratwurst sausages for German Croissant are dry and wrinkled. It has a sourish taste. Their scrambled eggs are more like minced scrambled eggs, not as wholesome, runny and fluffy like the usual scrambled eggs.
Then we decided to try their rainbow cake. Its not too sweet, moist generally the taste is quite ok. There’s some good reviews on their other food items so probably not too sure if i’ve ordered the wrong items that werent as good as i thought it will be in my opinions. Nevertheless, they have friendly staffs! I guess its a place for some desserts, enjoy the art pieces or work time on a weekday.

Located along a secluded alley of Dickson Road in the district of Little India, nestled the least expected Roots Kitchen & Bar, an European Restaurant. With an unpretentious exterior leading you into an interior made of bricks walls and wooden furniture brings about a charming rustic ambiance.

One of the best thing at Roots Kitchen & Bar is their menu. Featuring sumptuous dishes starting with some brunch food to starters and side shares followed by mains and desserts all at pocket friendly NETT prices! This has definitely set them apart from the typical more costly European Restaurants.

Egg & Truffle Mousseline topped with Cavier ($4). Smooth egg mousseline served in cute egg shell on a primitive egg carton brings our memories back to the good olden days for a split moment. It has a mashed potatoes alike kind of sandy mouthfeel and lingering traces of truffle with a blend of earthy taste from the mushrooms.

Loaded Sweet Potatoes Fries ($15) with truckloads of feta cheese, jalapenos and minced meat! A slight twist made to the usual crispy sweet potatoes fries was the melty cheese and exploding surprises in its flavors. A little sweetness from the sweet potato with a hint of kick from the jalapenos.

Ocean Crab Pasta ($18). Fine thread like pasta tossed and coated with rich umami flavored lobster bisque was served with generous servings of fresh shredded crabmeat. The pasta was cooked right to perfection with each thread sealed with the flavor of the sea. Definitely a like for seafood lover!

Nagano Pork Rack (200g, $27) revealing a refreshing compote of pickle sweet braised cabbage, mustard seed and grape that brightens the flavors of the pork rack. The pork rack with a pinkish center is tenderly soft and easy to swallow. One of the better pork rack in town i would say!

London Broil ($22). Flank steak done medium with a slight chewiness to it. Accompanied by red wine jus, smooth potato puree and some root vegetables! Flavors of different food has complimented well all within this one dish.
It was definitely a hearty dinner with such lip smacking delicious dishes and such good food has definitely been made more accessible with the new Rochor Mrt Station!

Online baker cum blogger turns hobby into reality, opening its flagship store under a block of flats along Owen Road. With a clean minimalistic interior and a Instagram fulfilling corner, Shiberty Bakes is all ready to welcome their customers! A cozy corner for a chill out afternoon.

Menu filled with sweet delights including Shiberty Toasts (also know as Shibuya Toast), Gourmet Waffles, Dessert Pizzas, Homemade Cakes, Macaroons and Milkshakes!

Red Velvet Gourmet Waffles ($14) – Daunting maroon red waffles reveals their crispy yet dense texture. Further topped with berries, cookies bites and 2 scoops of smooth creamy ice cream, are making people crazily falling in love over it. It comes in 3 flavors, Buttermilk, Red Velvet and Charcoal.

Matcha Shiberty Toast ($16) – You’ll find some similarity in the plating style of Shiberty Toast and their Gourmet Waffle. Both with berries and cookies bites. Cube of toast made up of a crispy shell and a soft and light interior filled with lingering sweet honey butter. Accompanied by 2 scoops of ice cream, vanilla and matcha. Be surprise to find some cookie crumbs mixed into these ice cream for an extra crunch. 3 flavors to choose from too – Classic, Rocher and Matcha.

Macaroons ($2 per piece) – Attracted into trying the bright yellow Salted Egg and brown with golden flakes Ferrero Rocher macaroons. Melty with the right texture. A little crisp airy shell with chewy fillings in between that are not too sweet.
Constantly seeing the improvements made by Shiberty Bakes to their desserts, is definitely giving customers the assurance to their desserts’ quality.
