From a home-based bakery, Two bakers has landed foot at jalan besar café hotspot, serving French and American pastries that are lovingly handcrafted and baked fresh daily in the cafe by Le Cordon Bleu Paris trained chef.

Two Bakers were located stones away from tiramisu hero, window by the sills and bravery café.

We were greeted with a most attractive cake display. The entire café has great ambiance. It was really a nice place to chill and relax.

The beautiful cakes bar

The entire café was really spacious as seen below.

The sablee was used to create the tender, buttery crust filled with the yuzu lemon curd. It was sour sweet curd appetizes us for more cakes, but we have to be careful with our calories intake for fear of being fat.

Le Chocolat Noir ($9.80) & Yuzu Lemon Tart ($7.80)

Le Chocolat Noir was made up of 55% dark chocolate mousse with hazelnut and praline feuilletine base. The mousse was rich and smooth while the hazelnut and praline base was crunchy. Love the match between them.

SHIBUYA TOAST & ICE CREAM Smile May 19, 2016

Archipelago Creamery is one ice-cream parlour that had recently sprouted in the Nanyang neighbourhood at Jurong West, housed within the grounds of Nanyang Community Centre. It has opened its door about one week ago.

This ice cream palor is a good hideout from the hot and sunny weather. It is a few minutes walk from pioneer mrt and stone away from many schools and institute such as NTU, thus you will spot many students during the day. The café has a white interior with nautical themed using anchor as its main focus.

The menu can be easily read from the colourful chalkboard hang at the ice cream fridge. The menu can be easily read from the colourful chalkboard hang at the ice cream fridge. We went here for two different instant so that we can try their shibuya toast as well as waffles.

We have order the Strawberry & Chocolate Flavour Shibuya Toast. It comes with whipped cream, fresh strawberries, thick toast two scoop of vanilla ice cream (it was kind of fixed) and drizzled with chocolate Sauce.

After trying the Famous Shibuya Toast from After You, Bangkok, I find that the toast here needs to be toasted slightly longer, as it was not crispy enough. The inner of the toast was soft and fluffy thus if the outer is more crispy, it would helps to create the taste texture. When you cut open the toast, you will be able to discover nicely cut bread toast within. The ice cream was smooth and creamy with the presence of vanilla beans.

Strawberries & Chocolate Shibuya Toast ($14.80)

Charcoal waffle happens to be the daily special for that day when we revisit the place. So we order the charcoal waffles with double scoop. For premium flavor, add $1 to each scoop. I find that the charcoal waffle was not thick and fluffy enough, perhaps due to the small scoop of batter being used. Nevertheless, the side was crispy. The pistachio and the blueberries ice cream were great as they are fragrant and creamy.

Charcoal Waffle ( Daily Special, $5) + Double Scoop ( $6.50) + 2 premium flavor ($2)

The Lychee moroccan rose tea was interesting. You can smell light aroma of rose couple when drinking the sweet black tea. The lychee gives a very light after taste in our mouth after drinking.

Lychee moroccan rose ($7)

Westside-er no longer need to travel far to enjoy ice creams and shibuya toast. This neighborhood hideout can definitely be your alternative choice.

Located opposite National Library, Rabbit Owl
Depot has specialize in handcrafted ice cream has opened its door in October 2014.
Snowflakes waffles, artisan ice cream, tarts and coffee in this café where its
theme is owl and rabbit. You will be greeted with mini owl and rabbit toys at every
corner, complimented with diy wooden chairs and tables.

In search for something sweet after our dinner,
we chanced upon rabbit and owl depot. It was on a weekday night so we kind of
have the whole place to ourselves. After trying various flavor, we settled with
pistachio ice cream and strawberry cheesecake.

To know what the palor is serving, all you have to do is to look at the menu hang at the wall. They do not have paper menu for you to look at.

*Update* I have recently went back on April 16, 2016. The environment still looks the same, cosy as previous. Now, they have the menu at the table for diners to look at.

Like any other ice cream, they have various flavors for you to choose from and sample before purchase. The boss was very friendly and patient with us as we really took a very long time deciding and literally try every single flavor available.

In this pistachio ice cream, the pistachio nut flavor is strong perhaps the nuts were lightly roasted before being added to the ice cream, thus the sweet smelling fragrance. The ice cream was really creamy, smooth and milky.

Strawberry cheesecake ice cream has always been one of my favourite ice cream flavor. Here, the strawberry cheesecake was also creamy and the tinge of strawberry jam could be detected lol

It was worth mentioning that the snowflake waffles were delicious. The hot, crispy and fluffy waffles sprinkled with icing sugar on top compliment the ice cream a lot. However, I find that the serving was tiny.

Waffles with our Pistachio & Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream

*Update* The pistachio ice cream still taste great! This time we have decided to go for thai milk tea ice cream. It was really delicious. It was as though you are drinking the sweet milky tea down your throat, except this is in the form of ice cream.

*Update* I notice that the palour started selling prawn crackers. We are allowed to sample it and I like it greatly as it was crispy yet not oily.

Utensils and complimentary drink for the diners

Despite the palour being small in size, it was actually quite cosy and suitable place for meet-up session due to its decent ice creams, highly accessible location as well as quietness of the café.

A wallet friendly café has been opened for business at Simon Road where most of the dishes are priced below S$15 nett. Lola's Café not only provide affordable food, the food was also delicious.

Lola’s café can be easily access via kovan mrt with about 5 min walk. We went on a Tuesday afternoon, but the pack was still packed. This goes to show how popular it is.

Lola’s café can be easily access via kovan mrt with about 5 min walk. We went on a Tuesday afternoon, but the pack was still packed. This goes to show how popular it is. It has a simple yet modern decoration in the café. The staff was really friendly where they served you plain water the moment you sat down.

*Update* I have enclosed menu and update the price. It has gone up slightly but the food still taste great.

MENU

Truffle mushroom toast consist of brioche toast, truffle cream mushroom, mozzarella cheese, onions, pickled red raddish, mesclun, sunny side egg, and feta crumbles. I must say that the ingredients used were many but I find that it was disappointing taut it lacks the truffle taste. Furthermore, the mushroom tends to be bland.

Truffle mushroom toast ($12)

Honey and Paprika Wings was actually chicken wings drizzled with sweet honey and sprinkled with paprika flakes. The Chicken was deep fried to give a crispy texture. Howveer, it was great that it helps to retain the juiciness within and the honey gives it a tinge of sweetness in every bite. This is my favourite food which I craved for it even at this time
when I’m typing this post.

Honey Paprika Crispy Wings($10)

The Avocado Eggs Benedict consists of Brioche bread, avocado, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, garden salad, balsamic dressing. It was a large serving for us to share. The poached egg sat beautifully on the brioche bread but upon cutting it, the golden lava gushed out and moisture the bread.

Avocado Eggs Benedict ($14)

The breakfast butter croissant meal consist of crispy and flaky butter croissant, smooth and running scrambled eggs, couple with pork ham ,honey bacons, cheddar cheese and honey
mayo. To create a more balanced meal, garden salad with balsamic dressing were also served.

Breakfast Butter Croissant ($15)

Shoe-string fries were fried drizzle with warm nacho cheese. It was irresistible and sinful at the same time.

Nachos Cheese Fries ($8)

This café is definitely worth a visit for the affordably priced delicious food and great environment to be in.

A Heartland Cafe in Hougang/Kovan OK May 19, 2016
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

Hatter Street Bakehouse and Cafe is a new café having the Alice in the wonderland theme opened in the heartland of Kovan/Hougang. It serves coffee, ice cream and waffles and
a small selection of cakes. They are known for their Pandan Gula Melaka waffle.

Hatter Street Bakehouse and Cafe is highly accessible as there are many HDB parking lots around the area and a bus stop right in front of the cafe. As the café do not have much seating space, it is usually packed with people. We have waited for about 30 minutes before securing our seats.

Since it has gotten its name after alice in the wonderland, the café was also decorated with scene of the fairytale.

Some of the cakes like brownies are placed in the cake display on the right to catch your attention. After looking, you will be tempted to order more than you need.

“It’s So Kumquet” is basically a lemon tart with sweet cream. It has a buttery, crunchy crust filled with delicious sweet-sour lemon custard surrounded by sweet cream. For sour lover (like me), you will find yourself enjoy this tart greatly.

It’s so Kumquet (SGD$6.00)

YOLO was the new addition to the café cake selection. It consists of cream cheese, chocolate fudge, chocolate ganache, chocolate frosting, chocolate cake and vanilla cake. You will be overdosed with chocolate. The cake was slightly hard, but it was surprising not overly sweet.

YOLO Cake ($7.50, i think)

Whoaffles ($8.90) were their best seller. It was meant to “wow” you with their waffles. Since it’s their best selling items, we have order the waffles with chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce and the Pandan ice-cream with Gula Melaka. We have to wait for about 30 minutes before it was served. After a long wait, we can’t resist eating after smelling how fragrant the waffles were. Thus we started eating the chocolate waffles without waiting for
the Pandan version.

The waffles were crispy with a strong “egg” flavor. The chocolate ice cream was rich in chocolate but tends to be too much after eating for long. For the pandan ice cream, it was aromatic and rich in flavor while the gula Melaka drizzled on top of it was really sweet.
