The Tuckerbox Lunch OK May 05, 2015
Categories : Japanese

The Tuckerbox Lunch - a name that sounds like its serving western ready-to-go meals.

Truth is, this not so eye-catching little shop, serves Japanese-inspired deli which you can opt for takeaway or dine-in at the limited seats that are available at the front of the shop.

They are currently having a "Don't Worry Be Healthy" lunch special from 11.30am to 2.30pm daily. Just add S$5 for a cold pressed juice when you purchase any S$8.80, S$10.80 or Chirashi meal. A joint promotion with their neighbour - Live Juice Bar.

With their limited manpower, I am surprised they are also providing delivery service.

Select from varieties of homemade pasta, donburi, house specialties and obento. There will definitely be something that suits your palate.

Premium Bara Chirashi (S$12.80) + Cold Pressed Juice (S$5)
Consists of salmon, salmon belly, kingfish, swordfish, ama ebi, shrimp, tobiko, ikura, shitake & avocado. With all the fresh ingredients, this chilled chirashi is simply delicious. The portion is also just right for people with a small appetite.

Mixture of orange, carrot and beetroot. Might be a little pricey but the freshness of the fruits that are used in this cold pressed juice definitely quenches your thirst in a hot afternoon.

Miso Chicken Obento (S$8.80)
Grilled chicken in their homemade miso sauce. Tender chicken with the not so salty miso sauce makes it quite tasty and perfect to go with the warm rice.

My first dining experience was at their Westgate outlet when they are newly opened and having promotion of S$1 per plate which the meal had to be completed within a limited timeframe.

They are expanding rather fast as quite a number of outlets are seen sprunging up in shopping malls. One of their latest addition is at the basement of The Clementi Mall occupying the previous Burger King space.

Do-It-Yourself. Green tea is complimentary where teabags are displayed neatly on every table and all you have to do is just add hot water conveniently from the tap at the counter.

No menu is available here, all items are served on the conveyor belt and are priced at S$1.50++ per plate.

The disadvantage of not having a menu is that there might be items that you are not sure what it is. That is what happened to me for the two items below.

Though not sure what kind of fish this is, it taste good with the teriyaki sauce.

Sashimi here is decent for the price you are paying with the freshness a little compromised.

Various Sushi
Sushi here taste just ok. The rice is a little letdown as its a tad too dry with the freshness of the prawn not so satisfying and the tamago not tasty enough. The other three was quite ok though.

If you want a meal that can fill your stomach and doesn't leave a big hole in your pocket, this is the place to visit.

Having frequented their Amoy Street outlet numerous times and the second time to this outlet, this is definitely one of our favourite hangouts for Korean food.

They serves a wide variety of special menu for lunch ranging from soups, bibimbap, stews, noodles, pancakes and...the list goes on.

As usual, refillable sides are served upon placing our orders. Disappointingly, my favourite potato salad taste too sweet today.

Beef BBQ in Hot Plate (S$11)
A popular choice of many. If you do not take beef, chicken and pork are available too. The disappointment of this today is that the beef is not tender enough.

Kimchi Pancake (S$18)
Wow! Our favourite pancake. The pancake is not spicy with crispy corners and a soft centre. It's a little wet today compared to what we had before.

Korean bibimbap - a healthy and delicious dish. Woohoo...look at the runny egg, simply irresistible!

Korean Style Instant Noodle (S$8) Add Chicken (S$2)
Choice of beef, pork or kimchi are also available for add on at the price of S$2. A simple yet tasty dish served in a metal pot, makes you feel so Korean. Noodles was soft and the soup was tasty & not too spicy. Chicken was tender too. However, felt that it is not so worth paying for S$2 just to get a few slices of chicken added.

Spicy Seafood Tofu Soup (S$11)
This is served with a bowl of rice. Ingredients was fresh and this is real spicy. Definitely for people who enjoy eating hot stuff.

Pepper Steakhouse & Bistro OK Apr 26, 2015

Categories : Australian / New Zealand | Steaks and Grills

Situated at a corner (opposite Cedele) in Great World City, its not a strategic location where it's easily noticeable.

I only spotted it today after many visits to this shopping mall.

Not a very big place but there are enough dining tables to house a crowd.

Love the way they decor and renovated the place - a very warm & cozy environment.

We were famished so we made a quick decision and went for their Irresistible 3 course Set Lunch without taking time to run through their ala carte menu.

Irresistible 3 course Set Lunch (S$16.80++)
3 course set lunch includes starter, main & dessert. You can top up S$3 for selected beverage.

Starter
Soup of the Day OR Garden Salad with House Dressing.
Onion Soup, Garden Salad

Soup of the Day - Onion Soup
Taste is not too bad but I find its not thick enough. The bread that came with it is crispy with a little burnt taste.

Garden Salad with House Dressing
Fresh greens makes a healthy start of the meal. Mixed with the house dressing, which I feel it tastes like balsamic vinegar, gives this a refreshing taste.

Mains
Linguine with Shredded Braised Lamb OR Pan Fried Dory Fillet OR Grilled Boneless Chicken Leg OR Australian Sirloin Steak OR Open Fish Sandwich.

And......our choice of the day......

Linguine with Shredded Braised Lamb
Braised lamb is tender but the gamey taste of the lamb is a little strong. Nonetheless, this is indeed a tasty dish.
Not too bad

Australian Sirloin Steak served with Thick Cut Fries and Mesclun Salad
Medium done. Very juicy and tender sirloin steak, it's deliciously good even on its own. I finished the whole piece in a flash. The thick cut fries was also fabulous with its lightly salted flavouring.

Dessert
Pepper's Tiramisu OR Panna Cotta with Berry Coulis OR Single Scoop Kapiti Ice Cream.

Pepper's Tiramisu
Creamy texture and the rum & coffee taste is just right, not too overly strong. Just one word - Marvellous!

Panna Cotta with Berry Coulis
Panna cotta taste a tad too sweet. However, the sourness in the berry coulis neutralises the sweetness. Yummilicious!

Overall dining experience was pleasant and the delicacies served definitely satisfy my hunger.

After the not too satisfying visit at their Jurong Point outlet previously, I didn't plan to pay them a visit again till I chanced upon their Harbourfront outlet.

Here I am giving them a second chance.

Food was served rather fast since its the quiet hours. Staff were also quick in service even though we visited at a time when they are having their meal break. The service provided at this outlet is much better than what I experienced at Jurong Point.

On a rainy evening, we ordered hot beverages to start off our meal.

Hot Green Tea (S$2.50)
Nothing special, just the usual that can be found in other Korean restaurants.

Hot Plum Tea (S$3.90)
This is definitely an appetite awakener. Between its sweetness is a tinge of sour taste making this refreshing to the stomach. Aid in digestion too if taken after meal.

Bossam (S$6.90)
Pork belly wrap. The pork belly here was served hot, better than the one I had in Jurong Point which was cold when served to the table. Wrap the pork belly, cut chilli, garlic and all into the leafy vegetable - enjoy it the Korean way.

Chef's Bibim Guksoo (S$13.90)
Signature pork bulgogi dried noodles. With two chilli level of spiciness, you can't really taste the spice at all. The tender sauteed pork bulgogi is delicious with the soft onion and cabbage. Mixed it up with the shredded crunchy seaweed and the luscious chilli Jang, makes this chilled dish superbly tasty.
