Hongkong! Cantonese cuisine! Dim sum! My favourite! Boy, was I thrilled when I saw this place. Can't wait to check it out.
Tastefully renovated restaurant

Tastefully renovated restaurant

Tastefully renovated with a class of its own, My Dining Room not only serves fine cuisine but also provides excellent service. Polite & attentive staff keeps filling up your cup with tea and changes your plate every now and then.
Wide variety

Wide variety

Thinking of having gatherings and prefer a little privacy? You can make advance booking for their private rooms. However, a minimum spending must be met. Alternatively, you can just enjoy their cuisine at their open dining area.

And......my dim sum Sunday brunch starts now!

Baked Abalone Pie 崧化鲍鱼批 (S$8, 3pcs)
When east meets west. Creamy pie with crispy pastry and two little abalone inside. My first reaction was - abalone pie!? A bite into it immediately makes my doubts disappear. Smoothness of the creamy base with the springy texture of the abalone plus the crispy pastry, everything complements so well with each other. No wonder its a dish that is highly recommended by the staff.

Baked Char Siew Bun with Butter 雪山叉烧包 (S$6, 3pcs)
One may wonder, this is a common item that you can find in most chinese restaurant that serves dim sum. Agree, but we still went ahead with the order since this is also one of the item that the staff recommended.

The 'snow mountain' part was semi crispy with the softness of the bun combining with the not so sweet char siew filling, this is indeed fantastic. The best that I have tasted thus far.

Mini Egg Tart 康力蛋挞仔 (S$5.20, 3pcs)
One of the must have when I go for dim sum. The one they serve here is quite good. Crispy and fluffy pastry with very strong egg taste. Yummilicious!

Steamed Shrimp Dumpling 水晶鲜虾饺 (S$6, 4pcs)
Thinned skin with fresh prawns. Not too bad but no distinctive factor.

Steamed Chicken Feet with Chilli Sauce in Sichuan Style 蒸川椒凤爪 (S$5.20)
This taste a little spicier than the ones you find elsewhere. Its no surprise as it already states Sichuan Style. Chicken feet is steamed till soften together with the sauce makes this a tasty dish.

Steamed Spare Ribs with Black Bean Sauce 豉汁蒸排骨 (S$5.20)
Spare ribs was not exactly tender which is a little disappointing. Overall taste is not bad, similar to what you can find at other restaurants.

Steamed Custard Bun 奶皇流沙包 (S$5.20, 3pcs)
Though this is served hot and the custard is runny, it's a little letdown as I find the bun skin slightly thick and the custard lacking the salted taste.

Marinated Duck Wing 五香卤水鸭翼
Another recommended dish by the staff. I had my reservations on ordering this as duck meat are usually quite tough. Surprisingly, the duck wing in this warm dish is really tender. Thumbs up for the recommendation.

Mashed Taro Paste with Gingko Nuts 福果甜芋泥 (S$6)
Strong taro taste with smooth and slightly lumpy texture. They have made this deliciously good considering this comes from a cantonese restaurant.

Dragon Fruit in Ice with Red Wine 火龙果红酒雪 (S$6)
A very refreshing icy dessert. The jelly doesn't taste too sweet pairing with the dragon fruit. Added with red wine which brings the flavour to another level yet not too overpowering. A must try if you like cold desserts.

A very pleasant dining experience even though its a little pricey but the quality of the food using the finest ingredients plus the excellent service makes your every cents worth.

Chanced upon this place when we were at City Square Mall. We were attracted by the mouth watering food posters displayed and decided to check this out.

This place was renovated with an American touch and it can house quite a crowd.

Something caught my eye, interesting house rules displayed at a corner.

If you are into the Korean BBQ chicken & other fried chicken craze, then you might also be interested to try this out too.

There are alot of varieties available in their menu, from individual combos to combos for two and family packs. Choose from classic wings, boneless wings and tenders with an option of ten flavours to go for. Also in the menu are items like rice box combos and wings burger. All combos comes with seasoned fries and regular soda.

As they states they are the wing experts, we decided that trying out their classic wings is a must. So we proceeded to order a combo for two where we opt for classic wings and a individual combo where boneless wings was chosen. As for the flavours, we chose what the staff recommended to us i.e Garlic Parmesan, Louisiana Rub and Lemon Pepper.

Combo for Two - Classic Wings (S$20.95)
3 flavours and 2 dips. As there are only 2 dips (honey mustard & ranch) available in the menu, we opted for one of each. The wings are crispy but the drumlets part of the wings are a little dry. Parmesan flavour has a very strong cheese smell where Lemon Pepper taste slightly sour. The strongest taste will be the Louisiana Rub, a mixture of spices.

The not so satisfying part of the meal was that the Louisiana Rub flavour wasn't served to us. This was, in my opinion, the original version instead.

We topped up S$1 to change the seasoned fries to jalapeno cheese fries. This is cheesily delicious.

Individual Combo - Boneless Wings (S$9.95)
2 flavours and 1 dip. Since we already opted under the combo for two the 2 dips that are available, we requested for the cheese sauce which we topped up for S$0.35.

The texture of the boneless wings were far better than the classic wings. Tender and yet not oily. Garlic Parmesan & Louisiana Rub flavours was chosen for this combo too and this time it was really Louisiana Rub that was served.

Here, Do.Si.Rak serves healthy Korean to-go meals.

Choose from five different flavours, namely Beef Bulgogi, Soy Sesame Chicken, Kimchi Tofu, Salmon and Spicy Chicken which all comes with white rice. You can add S$1 to upgrade to whole-grain rice or Korean buckwheat noodles.

Something worth noting, the meals in the menu are all under 500kcal. For the calories conscious.

To enjoy the different textures and flavours, mix in their secret sauce (don't blend with fork & spoon), just put the cap on and SHAKE IT UP!

Slow cooked chicken breast is not tough. Lotus is actually one of the item in this meal, unfortunately they ran out of it and was asked to choose another vegetable to replace it. Love the overall texture with the vegetables and stuff all shaken up but chicken seems a little bland.

Many years back, this is the place that we visited frequently for their curry fish head.

Re-visiting after a long while, the menu was revamped with a more vibrant peranakan style look.

They have also added set menu into the selection and that is what we ordered today.

To start off our meal, crackers and acar will always be served.

Occupying the space of the previous Chung Hwa Free Clinic, a place that I have passed by numerous times but failed to notice that it is actually a cafe within even though the bright coloured lights did catches my eye.

This place is so different from those modern cafes. With no fanciful renovation, this nostalgic looking cafe gives you a comfortable and down-to-earth feel.

Love the quote displayed at the corner "ANYONE CAN BE COOL, BUT AWESOME TAKES PRACTICE".

The staff, led by a team of caucasians, displayed the fun factor in them who are also warm and friendly making you feel so at home.

As the menu isn't presented in the way that we are so used to, it did took us quite awhile to figure it out.

Other than ala carte order, they do offer set lunch priced at S$24 which includes any soft drinks, any wrap, hot coffee or tea and a scoop of ice cream/sherbet.

We didn't go for the recommended and popular My Awesome Salad as we wanted something to be able to fill our hungry stomachs.

So this is what we ordered instead.

Beef Lasagna, Bread & Salad Leaves (S$17)
Wasn't really a fan of lasagna but my dining partner wanted to try this. To my pleasant surprise, this is totally different from what I have tasted elsewhere. The texture is soft & creamy with loads of ground beef and it doesn't make you feel greasy. Some may find it too moist though.

My Awesome Sandwich (S$17)
This comprises of Smoked Salmon, Herbs Chicken Breast, Duck Rillettes and Parma Ham. Choose between soft or crusty bread for your sandwich and I opted for soft bread this time round. Salmon is fresh with the perfect smoky taste. Chicken breast its surprisingly tender and the herbs spread complements it. As for the duck rillettes, it taste good but is a little salty. In my opinion, this would taste better with crusty bread instead.

Hot chococlate is my must try beverage when I visits cafe. The one they serve here has a strong milky taste. Definitely for milk lovers.

The pricing might be a little on the high side but it balances off with the quality of the food they serve. Will return to try their My Awesome Salad.
