Categories : Japanese | Chinese Soup

Whenever I crave for soup, the first place that came to my mind will be The Soup Spoon. So I was glad when I saw Soup Stock Tokyo, giving me another option for my soup craving days.

Have been eyeing this since then, finally having it for lunch today.

There are so many varieties available making me having the impulse to try all the items in the menu. Dong~dong, awaken by reality, my stomach definitely do not have enough capacity to store all the items at one go.

What surprises me is that Butter Chicken Curry rice and Dried Scallop porridge are also items in the menu.

Decision made, ordered the Half and Half set so I can savour two different types of soup.
Choice of rice or bread

Choice of rice or bread

You can choose Japanese rice or Ciabatta bread to go with your soup set. In addition, add S$1 to get a beverage choosing from tea (hot/iced), fruit juice or bottled water. What's more, add S$4 for a S size soup to complete the curry & rice meal.

Half and Half Set + Rice or Bread (S$11.80)
My choice today are Chicken Soup with 8-Vegetable, Hokkaido Crab Bisque and opted for Ciabatta bread instead of rice.

Chicken Soup with 8-Vegetable
Clear soup with tender chicken and various vegetables that are boiled till soften. The soup is a tad too oily though.

Hokkaido Crab Bisque
Have always love crab bisque. This might not be the best that I have tried but the thick and creamy texture sure makes you dipping the bread in.

Ciabatta Bread
Wow! Didn't expect the bread to be in such a big portion. Crispy outside with soft centre, bread lovers favourite.

A new addition to China Square Food Centre, Gogi Grill is situated at where Chinta Manis is used to be (opposite Mos Burger).

At the far end of the food centre (if entered from the entrance near Prudential Assurance), there isn't many seats for dining in front of the stall. Though there aren't any proper menu but coloured A4 sized illustrations of the food are pasted at the order counter.

Having the impression that their main attraction is their meat skewers, we ended up with their meat skewer rice set.

All rice set meals comes with kimchi and seaweed. Seaweed is crunchy but kimchi is a little sour. As for the meat, both the pork and chicken are rather tender and the sauce is not too overpowering. It would have been better if the rice sets are served hot.

Head down to Gogi Grill if you are a fan of meat skewers with a milder taste.

Situated in front of d'Good Cafe and diagonally across Haagen-Dazs, this restaurant offers both Japanese & Korean cuisine and, as the name states, charcoal barbecue.

The alfresco dining area is perfect for barbecue as they do not have retractable pipes to absorb the barbecue smoke.

Though many who visits came to enjoy their charcoal barbecue, I opted for other items in the menu as having barbecue in a Sunday afternoon doesn't seem a good idea to me.

Yaki Gyoza (S$6.50/6pcs)
Juicy pan fried dumplings. It taste good on its own without having to dip into the soy sauce.

Doeji Bulgogi (S$18)
Spicy pork. As we were not sure the spicy level so we asked for less spicy. Pork is tender and the thick gravy is so flavourful that you will be able to finish the whole bowl of rice.

Kimchi Jon (S$9) - small
Kimchi and pork belly slice pancake. The pancake is moist and soft with crispy edges. Delicious and not spicy though I couldn't really taste the pork belly slices. Pleasantly surprised is that crispiness of the edges are still maintained even when the dish is a little cooled down.

Oven and Fried Chicken OK Apr 04, 2015

Categories : Korean | Restaurant | Korean Fried Chicken

I remember them giving out food samplers of their fried chicken to passerby before they are officially opened for business.

The thought of having chicken as the only choice in the menu didn't quite arouse my interest in checking out this place though they have different varieties to choose from. It was the recent rising of the Korean fried chicken craze that raise my curiosity plus my friend who has been wanting to try their food that made me finally paying them a visit.

We arrived slightly before lunch hour hence, we were ushered into the simple decorated shop by friendly staff without having to wait too long. The place was fully packed during lunch hours and customers are directed to the 2nd level where more seats are available. The service is excellent to think that we called out to them every now and then posting questions and they are very patient in answering to all our queries.

In the menu, they have sauced or fried rice chicken and if you don't like fried chicken, they have roast chicken as well. There are also lunch sets available at only S$9.90++ which includes a soft drink. They also offer alcoholic beverages during lunch.
Variety of choices

Variety of choices

A little disappointment was that the side menu is not available during lunch and we were told that they offer more items during dinner time. So we proceed to order what the staff recommended as their popular item.

Chicken Kkaseu (S$9.90++)
One of the three lunch sets available. Juicy crispy chicken cutlet with a tinge of spiciness that doesn't make you feel oily. Rice is springy and the wedges are crispy too. It's no surprise why alot of people came here for their lunch set.

Soft Drink - Green Tea (Ala Carte S$3)
As mentioned, all lunch sets includes a soft drink. Choose from a range of Coca-Colas, Sprite, Green Tea, Ice-Lemon Tea and Mineral water. This is my choice today.
Lunch set inclusive

Sauced Rice Chicken - Original (Half S$21)
All their sauced rice chicken (original, jambalaya or soy sauce version) comes in the option of original (various chicken parts), boneless or wings and choice of whole or half portion. The original version is with sweet & spicy seasoning and you can choose mild or spicy for the level of spiciness. The wings are crispy and juicy combined with the sweet & spicy sauce it just taste marvellous. However, it's a tad too spicy for my friend (who can't take spicy stuff) even though we opt for the mild version.

Green Tea (S$4.50)
As beverages are only included in lunch sets, my friend ordered this to go along with her meal.

Radish
Complimemtary radish was served to us. It taste a little sour but it's a perfect match with the sauced rice chicken as it kind of neutralise the spiciness.

Organizing a company event or throwing a party? Though they don't provide delivery but you can call them in advance to place an order and collect the food when it's ready.

No regrets of giving this place a shot as it definitely makes me coming back for more.

Some years back someone bought me some muffins which made me started on a search for the location of the place with just the name.

Have always wanted to patronize this place to try out the other food that they offer which I only managed to do so a week ago.

Upon entry, we were greeted by smiley staff who didn't mind me taking photos of the shop even before we make our order.

Like other shophouses cafes, there are more seats available on the 2nd & 3rd level.

Something interesting to note is that they have a rewards programme called "The Bean Programme". Interested? Participate in five simple steps.

Now we are ready to attack the food. Let's take a look at the menu.
Many varieties available

Other than their well known muffins, other items that you can find in their menu includes sandwiches, tarts, homemade pies & quiches.

All items are available in ala carte order or you can opt for a set. The set includes a muffin and a drink (except smoothies/alcoholic beverages) of your choice. However you can top up S$2 for a smoothie.

I decided to try their sandwiches but there are so many varieties to choose and all looks tempting. So I ordered the Three Sliders and opted for a set.
Delicious & yummy

The flavours I chose were:
1) Smoked Salmon
2) Ham & Cheese
3) The Char Siew

Three Sliders (Ala Carte S$10, Set S$16.50)
1) Smoked Salmon
Salmon was fresh and combined with cream cheese making this simply delicious.
2) Ham & Cheese
This was rather normal with no surprise factor.
3) The Char Siew
A unique variety in the menu. Meat is tender and overall combination is yummy. Just that it doesn't taste so much like char siew.

Matcha Latte (Ala Carte S$4.50)
My beverage choice for the set. This is really awesome. Strong matcha taste with just the right portion of milk.

My friend loves quiches and the quiche of the day happens to be her favourite - Spinach & Mushroom Quiche. So she ordered the quiche and opted for a set too.

Spinach & Mushroom Quiche (Ala Carte S$5.50, Set S$12)
Quiches are known to be creamy and cheesy. The ones here are the same with the difference that it will not make you feel too greasy after eating it.

A coffee lover's choice. Strong aroma and coffee taste. Coffee lovers must definitely try their coffee when visiting.

As I have mentioned earlier, muffins are included in all set orders. Though they have sweet & savoury muffins but we opted for the sweet flavour as this is our aftermeal dessert.

Double Chocolate and Lavender Lemon Muffin (Ala Carte S$2.80)
Double Chocolate Muffin
Baked with valrhona chocolate and two other types of chocolate chips. The muffin is moist and the chocolate taste makes this a chocolate lovers must have.
Lavender Lemon Muffin
Aroma therapy!? Chose this as I find this flavour quite special. Not a flavour that many can appreciate as the lavender is a little too overpowering.

The place to visit for chilling out with friends and enjoying a cuppa with some pastries.
