Pat Bing Soo #1 OK Oct 05, 2010

Categories : Food Court | Desserts and Cakes

Pat Bing Soo is translated to be red bean ice in Korean.

If you had known me a while or read one of my reviews you'd find out that I love red bean milk ices. So currently trying to find which Kopitiam serves the most/highest red bean and milk and ice serve!lol

Since really, taste-wise everything should be the same. The only thing different is the serving portion and the price depending on which kopitiam we're eating at (mall, AC, non AC, hawker)

And not all dessert kopitiam stands have red bean milk ice!
So i ordered one today because of the hot hot weather out.

I scanned through and found my red date! I ordered it for $1.90.

When served, the ice wasn't as much as Pat Bing Soo #2 (which I often go because it's located near my place, review soon). The red bean share was only 2 scoops, one in the bottom and at the top. But she gave a tad more milk than most of stalls use to give so instead of eating a tasteless ice at the last bit, I still had my share of red bean with some sweetness.

The Kopitiam is aircon, so price-wise it's acceptable!

Other desserts includes Ice Kacang, ice Mango, malacca treasures( or more like cheng teng), and currently they're having offers of the lowest calorie dessert which are the hot desserts for a special price!

Tokkkkkbokkkiiii (1) OK Sep 27, 2010

Categories : Korean | Food Court

I had a sudden craving of spicy rice cakes these days. This was a brief encounter with this restaurant.
I was walking from dhoby to orchard then I felt hungry (I always do anyways. My tummy is an endless bottom pit) so my friend told me there's this korean restaurant inside Concorde hotel (we were passing by) and it's owned by koreans.

So i thought, it should be pretty authentic! And I was having this tokbeokki fever so in the end I gave up my diet and bought it.

I ordered & it costs $4.50. Quite ex since it's more of a snack rather than a meal, and I scanned the menu. Most of their meal prices are about $5-6.50 respectively.

Then I knew why it was more expensive than others: it was a whole bowl with overload of sauce and one egg! hhahahaah so there you go. The rice cake was absolutely squishy and delicious and the sauce was overloaded. It's a tad spicy so it's just nice!
I guess it was a more upgraded version than most places. I know the one in novena has & it sold for $3, but I never bother to try since it's in a rather small package (i'm a big eater! HOHOHO).

It occupies the biggest stall, so it is definitely promising with the other meals, with the cashier lady being the owner and is korean.smile

Another proof to come here and try: they got a whole page boards with old news clippings saying that THIS RESTAURANT/CHEF HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE LIKE, 20 years?!

I'm not sure there, but that's for your homewerk dear readers.
that ends my chewy spicy rice cake journey 1!

Creative Curry Inventions OK Sep 20, 2010
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Curries

This is my second time back, as I've gotten their voucher last month. I tried their Doria (aka Baked Rice) last time and it was pretty good. Reminds me of the Hongkong baked rice resto which always has a long, long queue in Vivo there but the twist here is using curry sauce, which is different from that particular restaurant.

This time, I feasted lunch with my friends and we agreed to choose different things! We were staaaarving anways.chopstick

Mr. Curry's menu serves a variety of things, it's a fusion of

the usual indian food + japanese creativity for cute things = mr. curry

Naan bread into a pizza-like meal, sandwiches, rice bowls and refreshing japanese style desserts and drinks are all in a menu.
I ordered the Mushroom Risotto ($10.80) as I have an endless pit for a tummy, thinking that it should be as filling as Mad for Garlic's risotto which I didn't get to finish! (see my review about it~). My friend ordered the curry rice with fried salmon cheese ($12.80). My other friend ordered (i forgot the name!) but it was sauce inside the bread bowl with fries.

It didn't take long for our meals to arrive, mine being the first, served in a interesting clay bowl. It was served with pickles and the pickles were good and tasty! It's sour but absolutely refreshing but sadly it was really a spoonful serve

As for my risotto, it was a bit more watery than MFGarlic's and smaller in portion. The taste was pretty good though with lots of mushrooms topped on it.
However, my friend's with original curry sauce salmon fried rice was much better in taste (i think its because of cheese and its fried) and the curry sauce is nice! I have yet to try the other 3 sauces, black, white, and ... forgot!
The other was more of a unique kind of food presentation, but taste was just OK; friend's verdict on the bread tastes cheap; it doesn't taste nice together or it looks like those supermarts bread. but the fries were good, reminding me of Popeye's cajun style fries, frying it with the sauce.

So the food verdict overall, was just a nice eatery at a higher price because it's a restaurant.

The downside however was the service. The girl who served me couldnt' speak english at all, and just as nonchalant in talking chinese, even addressing me in chinese which I didn't understand until my friend nudged me saying "hey shes talking to you" asking which menu did I order. I pointed to her 3 times and she asks about it again. Plus, she was wearing like home slippers in black - isn't that a bit disturbing for a uniform waitress to wear sandals while working, in a Waraku subdivision? Surely they do not want this to happen, a waitress serving guests who can't communicate both sides and looks unprofessional in looks.

The second encounter was with the skinny Indian guy I remember back then, came to us and offered on the DBS promotion. We kindly said no, and we'll order again after we finish our meal in case we got full. He was pulling out the menus and stuff, somewhat rough gesture. After we finished our meal, he came over and again, pestered on adding another $9 to get the promotion, pulling out the menus and asks "are you sure you do not want to add more we have desserts etc."

Hearty Breakfast OK Sep 18, 2010
Categories : Bakery

If you want a fresh morning, you'd run out at by 6am before cars start to pollute the air.
If you'd want a fresh and energizing morning plus indulging your nostril, then Freshly Baked is the place for you to have breakfast!

I've known the place after passing it one-two times OTW to Fair Price, but never really tried (although the smell did invite but since it's a premium bread store compared to plain breads in supermarts, I left it right there). On that day my uncle invited me to have breakfast together picking me up. What surprise did they bring me to Killiney rd. and went in to Freshly Baked!

It was roughly before 9AM arriving, and there was just a table occupied.
Breakfast menu is western style:

There are 3 special breakfast sets to choose from. I usually choose the first set (If i'm not mistaken) consisting of a large-sized sausage which is succulent covered in sauce (the first time I came, the sausage was as long as the plate, but this time round, it's smaller), scrambled eggs, two large sized toasts with jam which is totally filling. The bread, as you know is of premium quality, so the toasts are from their loaf line, from wheat to raisins to cheese loafs. The set comes with coffee/tea, and with the delicious smell coming from behind (kitchen) it's an exhilarating smell to start the day! smileThis set is 9.90$.

The other two sets, one at same price and the other one 13.90$ (if i recall well) has other choices.

it is pretty pricey for a breakfast set (that's why I only come by if my uncle calls me up tongue but their quality shouldn't be questioned. I'm sure the sausage they used are those german ones and their breads aren't as commercially produced with preservatives and such)

After half-hour enjoying my breakfast, more people came by with lots of expats coming in and enjoying their breakfast; it was a full bustle after 9! Should come early as parking space isn't much as well too!

As for their breads, I think almost eeeeverything should be just as nice. The chocolate donut however was just a pass as it was pretty simple. But most of their bread loaves which my sis likes to buy for me are very soft!

Suprise sluuurp! OK Aug 24, 2010

Categories : Singaporean | Food Court

There were two surprising things on that day had led me to a great night. My friend and I was looking for a place to eat in any foodcourt due to the sadness of the wallet status. And apparently I rarely step into Marina Sq. so don't even think that I've even seen their food court. After checking where the food court was situated (see I didnt even know where it is nor my friend) we went up to the 4th floor.
Long story short after we made a round, we finally decided to come back to the first western stall we see, and I forgot what's it called, sth with "PASSZA" or something. It's just across the Korean stall, facing forward.
It has a queue so it looks promising. After thinking I wanted something creamy so Carbonara was in mind. My friend contemplated between the grilled stingray but after looking at a photo which we think it is that she changed her mind.
But whilst cooking and waiting, the stingray pasta menu was popular and we saw the outcome that it indeed looked appetizing!
Don't look on how they cook, it might be just a tad annoying because they toss everything in and looks messy but hey, its a food court.
I chose to sit outside overlooking the Raffles Place/marina bay at night, so it looked stunning. It was a rather cooling and full of bright light, so it was a great environment change.
my pasta suited my tastebuds! because i have can tolerate high salty taste so it suited me well. I saw the chef added a pinch of salt and somehow yes its much saltier than most pastas you'll ever try. For me its great maybe for the rest it'll be very salty, so tell the chef to probably add no salt or not.
Eating, talking and enjoying the ambience, suddenly the pop pop pop voice came out! Out of no reason fireworks was displayed! It was about 10 minutes before it was over and people were rushing out to see what's going on. It was the perfect timing to eat and pick the place outside, so I really had an enjoyable night indeed!
