Unagi unagi~ Smile Mar 11, 2011

Categories : Japanese | Ramen

This well known humble little Japanese food joint is run by hubby and wife who dedicate themselves in good service and food at a great price!

As all might know or not, their unagi bento is the bang for your buck! It has recieved a lot of attention from print press, and by reading it you learn that the husband has worked several years back in the land of the rising sun, and now he brings ICHITEI to serve with his home-brewed sauce that is cooked for hours before serving it to you, spreading it above the unagi.

The unagi is so soft and juicy, thicker than most places. The rice is served with black sesame on top and fresh salad is to accompany the whole part.

Service can be a bit slow since it's only by the both of them and the wife being the only server.

Truly the place to get your unagi fix at a price!

Salmon in a Pan Smile Mar 10, 2011
Categories : Western Variety | Restaurant | Seafood | Halal | Kids-Friendly

As suggested by the waitress, the menu of the day is this course, the salmon pan fried with a choice of appetizers.

Well-done cooked salmon is served with a their signature yellow flavored rice, and the diced vegetables. For salmon dish, it's about $20.

The vegetables is quite bland and tasteless even if they mix it with the mayo sauce. Just adding calories! tongue but the salmon was just nice - there's a little burnt part on its edges to give a crisp, and the light fresh lime rice complements the whole thick taste of the salmon.

It's a big portion as usual, but me taking away some more fried dishes from my friend's seafood platter for 2 still fits! But seriously, super full!

If people are more acquainted with Ayam Penyet Ria, my cousin who brought me here likes this place better.

hidden in one alley far left of lucky plaza, ayam penyet president serves its chicken with a truly super spicy chilli chilli which my cousin became so heaty and she was crying afterwards tongue

It's authentic as it gets, don't forget to ask for the kecap manis when it's served!
And they really serve fast, in 5 minutes time, so for those who are really hungry, this is the place to eat! Hot warm rice accompanies the soft chicken meat.

What more can you ask from a chain joint that is growing rapidly around?

The best ambiance, environment, that is to differ from the rest. This Fullterton branch for me has the best everything - since Im already familiar with the baristas - and the environment being the top notch.

Taste wise, I'd have to say its the same, but when asking more syrup or essence to my Java Chip Frappucino ($6) since I do know the peeps, it tastes much better lol

i'd usually sit outside facing MBS, while the marina wind blows and me doing my homework. And when it turns night, the whole place turns bright and beautiful. it's the best place to be at the heart of marina bay, baby!

Super duper sushi Smile Mar 03, 2011

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Aaaaand was surprise to see this little fellow growing immensely from ION! So happy that it opens nearby and of course, I said hello to a Q first but it wasn't long as it was still 6ish PM. super lucky to beat the crowd. And for the first time I got the kitchen bar seat. Started to order with the confusing and annoying paper as usual, trying to find the dishes I want in the colored paper. I find this quite annoying, how bout the rest?

GLORIOUSLY, THE SALMON WITH SOY SAUCE THAT is on 50% sale but nonetheless wanting it because of how good it looked was available!!!! Where I always meet a sold out in this one, the 40c/piece was here! Ordered 6 to share half. And the verdict?

So in the end we accidently tried the wagyu sushi which is like, $6 per piece. Amazing. And ask them to burn it unless you guys want to try it raw. We thought it was right, we ordered something else that we think its it, but in the end this expensive sushi came out! Taste was just OK though, it IS soft and mushy but there's nothing special.

And a great plus point when sitting in the bar area... watching the chef cook! tongue Let s just say Nippon chef W-san is an entertaining view indeed. Also, I peered through on how another asst chef was slicing the precious raw salmon fillet. Didnt know that salmon has bones, he was picking it from the meat, a long translucent bone.

Service-wise was relatively slow as the waiters were not passing by so frequently, so it was hard to ask for a refill (i'm a fish. i drink it in a gulp and need refills). But then I know its always always full.
